How Do You Know If A Niche Can Be Highly Profitable?

Hey guys,

Lets say I see an opportunity to setup a blog and get rankings in the video game niche.

I've never been in this niche so how can I find out if the adsense clicks, advertiser payouts and CPA payouts are enough to make it worth while?

Any advice from experienced marketers is appreciated.

Thanks!

Adsense - use your adwords account and set up a dummy campaign in order to see the prices.

CPA/advertiser - see what ads are showing on the existing sites then look them up in your CPA/network account.

    You can't.

You see, it's not a matter of whether 'a niche' can be profitable.

Almost all niches are profitable - for some people.

The question is - can a niche be profitable for YOU.

The answer to that depends on your resources, your access to that niche and your offer.

If you have a good product/service that there are lots of people who want to pay for, and you are able to access those people with your offer - then yes you can be profitable.

If there are lots of hungry buyers but you can't access them (because you don't want to pay for PPC and you don't have solid marketing chops to get in front of them) then you will struggle to make good money.

Also, if you have access to them but your product/messaging is wrong then you won't make money.

So it's really not about the niche.

There are lots of ways to get an idea if people are buying in a niche - so it ultimately comes down to whether you can access those people with your offer.

The easy way to test is using PPC for Google, Facebook or Youtube ads to find out whether you have the right offer and then get create for how to access those people more cost effectively.

Setup PPC campaigns and use PPC setup tools to see prices, amount of competition etc. and run some searches on Google and social sites to see who's advertising and what they're advertising to get some feel.

The technical side: see if there are PPC ads for those keywords, try to make sure their average cost per click is above $1, and see if there's competition.

Nontechnical side: common sense. Does this niche buy things? How often? Can you create/promote something they want to buy?

    Don't over complicate it :-D
