Internet marketing isn't exactly like being a rock star, but it beats out pretty much any conventional job by a HUGE margin.

No it's not waste of time, I can afford things I couldn't get when I don't do this stuff I like most of all.

Being an internet marketer is not a waste of time if you know what you're doing. I'm assuming that you've had success as an internet marketer and now you're going out on your own. I think it takes a lot of courage to leave a job and go out and start your own company. Starting your own company takes a lot of time and work, especially when you first start out. You should have a business plan in place and be able to stick with it. I wish the best of luck and hope that it works out for you.

You either do what you want to do cause it's fun or because it is helping you get what you want - So if IM is doing that it's not a waste of time. Do you know what you want?

I'm watching a storm roll through right now from my home office, so yeah, it's "sufficient" for me.

I think what the OP is asking is if you'd be happy sitting in front of your home computer as your career.

Besides income, there are things to consider. If you love being around people, then IM might not be the vocation for you. I get most of my social fill from forums. I have a few friends that could never work alone, and are constantly surrounded by people.

If you believe that working from the computer equates to not contributing, you're likely to experience some dissonance there as well.

I don't think it's a bad question. The answer is entirely dependent on your preferences and personality. If IM doesn't fit your life, then there's lots of ways to make money.

For me, IM is a dream come true. Currently, I work as a farm manager. I'm constantly concerned about the weather. On the side, I ship physical products. I can't stand going to the post office. No more worry about the weather and no more shipping physical products? I'm on board for that.

You're right! We should all quit all our jobs or anything that might be considered work and just go have a non stop party.

I'll buy the booze - until I run out of money and then you can pick it up from there, ok?

I think this consists of two extremely valuable questions which should be answered, not only for the newbies, but for the seasoned veterans as well.

Please, read this entire response before you comment to understand what I mean.

Question 1: "Is being an Internet marketer a waste of time?"

If your goal is to be an Internet marketer, absolutely it is a waste of your time, since there is no such thing as an Internet marketer. That term was obviously developed and has become viral due to the misunderstanding of what most online business people are.

Your a direct sales professional... plain and simple. The types of marketing we use are just systems within the greater title.

As a direct sales professional, we leverage Internet marketing... but Internet marketing breaks down further. I'll explain and later I'll answer question #2 from this post.

Internet marketing consists of quite a few bits:

- Social media marketing
- Forum marketing
- Direct response marketing through paid advertising
- Email marketing (another type of direct response)
- Viral Social Publishing: videos, document sharing, Squidoo, Hub pages and more

This list can continue on for quite some time. David Ogelvy said, "We Sell or Esle" and commended direct response professionals as some of the brightest and hardest of the advertising industry.

This video is empowering to say the least.

So, to answer your first question... you are NOT an Internet marketer, you are a direct response marketer and sales professional... you're smarter than just having the title of "Internet marketer" which only represents on of the many roles we take on.

Question #2: You only have so much time in a life to do what you'd like to do. Is sitting at a computer sufficient for you?

It's a powerful question, but can be answered briefly and powerfully as well.

Sitting in front of the computer is NOT sufficient... but, it's what you do and what you focus on while you're taking action on that computer, in your business, that help you to leverage your time in life properly to do what you'd like to do.

The issue most people face, or conflict, while they are working on their business online, they are focused on their problems which diverts their focus from the ultimate solution and the could generate the exact life you want, as it has for MANY of us.

Here are the key principles to focus on while you are on the computer, doing this will decide your success effectively, rapidly and sustainably.

1. Understand that in order to bring more value into your own life, you must be focused on making yourself more valuable to others.

2. Once you have made yourself more valuable (perhaps by strengthening a skill set someone is in the market for) find the quickest, highest quality and most competitively priced way to deliver it to the market place.

3. Spend more time thinking about how you can make a difference in the lives of your family and customers and less time on how much money you want to make... and you'll be rich.

IF you don't believe me... put it to the test.

Spend a day in this forum reading the stresses, pains and frustrations people here have been posting for years.

Look for a "common thread" in the conversations. Instead of thinking about how much money you could make selling them stuff, seek out the answers to their questions and provide them with the most detailed answer you can.

Always assume, when answering questions, they do not know the steps from beginning to end.

Then, do it again.

What you are doing is putting yourself in the shoes of those who need you the most. You are becoming emotionally connected to the heart of your industry.

It may take merely 2 or 3 times of doing this before a HUGE light bulb goes off and you realize how you could increase the level of value that would compel people to want what you have.

Finally... never create a product or service, or promote a product or service, unless the market wants it. At the end of the day, it doesn't matter what value you want to create for others, it only matters what value they want to invest in.

So... the long and short of it... Time is short, take it from a guy who spent his time from 19- 27 years battling a very vicious form of nearly terminal cancer... every step, every moment, every action counts and none before them count at all.

Spend that time wisely and if taking action on a computer is going to grow your life experience, value and contribution to your family and others... do it.

If you find your time is being wasted, create a different path.

Opportunities are not presented to us... we create them. So... don't loathe in front of your computer wondering if you are wasting your time, because whether or not you think you are or you think you are not...

... You'd be right on both counts!
