So why the hell bother telling me????

Which bloody guru started this latest fad for sending emails with the subject line "Sorry Arthur, you are probably too late . . . "

I've no idea what I was too late for but I received 17 of them today!

      Roger,

You'll need to travel to a port, boats
don't usually sail from your in-box.

Thanks for clearing that up John. I have so much yet to learn.

Mind you, spam used to come in cans, but that seems to end up in my inbox!!

just a sly way to get you to open the mail

most people are followers, and would hate to think they "missed something" or were the "last to get on the boat"

so usually they provide a second chance with those emails for those who "missed it" ...lol

Thats the same as using the line
"final notice" - this one always gets a response since most people associate it with bills

I automatically delete those messages. Even Frank Kern uses this cheap trash Title. If I've missed it, then I'm not going to waste my time teasing myself with what I can't have.

I also personally hate the Headline, "Who Else Wants To...?"

I'm not a "me too" kind of guy.

There are 2 ways you should be looking at these titles.

Considering what most of us do online (market products) vs what the rest of the world does online (research and buy products) we have to be careful that we don't become jaded.

We are exposed to these marketing techniques, lines, methods - whatever you want to call them, everyday.

But we also market our products to others who don't (I hope) revolve in the IM world and get blasted 10X per day with messages from the same marketer using the same "pickup lines".

Isn't this forum all about what works in marketing?

Like it or not - those lines work and if you want sales you'll use them too. At least to test with.

Don't look at those emails with a buyers hat on. Put on your sellers hat and then look at them.

Whats your definition of spam? Emails you don't like?

If you've signed up to the guys list its not spam

This type of email subject also falls in line with "IMPORTANT"...or the ...(personal) triggers being used in email marketing subject lines.

It was so funny when Frank Kern revealed that video with his email headlines, one with a normal headline and the other with a "doom and gloom" headline. The next day, most of the big name marketers and medium name marketers had emails saying "Bad news..." expecting their open rates to double!

        Art,

I'm pretty sure it was Kern who started it. And when does something, every wannabe guru follows.

I would give some more detail, but, Arthur, you are too late in asking...

They're telling you that you are on far too many promotional email lists (17 so far) and that you must unsubscribe from every one of them if you intend to build a business online.

Well, you know what they say, "You can't sell to anyone without
    upsetting some."

Every marketing message and method must upset some people
in order to reach new customers. This is not to say I agree
with the method, but just a note that Zig reminds us that
    timid salesmen have skinny kids.
