Is Your Blog A Wild Market Place Or A Book Full Of Value???

I've visited lots of blogs already since I've started in this industry and noticed 1 big error most blogs have in common which is all they do is sell. A purpose of a blog is to build strong relationships by providing value and a blog is a great way to provide value. It's important that we know how to balance selling and value. What's your views on this?

    I agree with you, Pete.

I think your point above is actually very closely related to what I'm always thinking, myself, when I say that the single commonest mistake I see ClickBank affiliates making is that their blogs/sites look like sales pages, that they're "trying too hard", that they're selling instead of pre-selling and establishing themselves as a trusted/respected authority in the niche with what you're referring to above as a "book full of value", which I normally call a "content-rich site/blog" (same thing, really, or very similar?).

For me, this equates to the difference between "I want to sell something" (that's your "wild market place") and "I want to become the person through/from whom people decide to buy things" (which is your "book full of value", I think)?

I'm in the "book full of value" camp, myself.

      Hey Alexa,

Thank you very much for your answer. The big tip here is to think like our prospects and visitors. Too much selling will tell us to avoid that person or website. Too many ads will also distract us from what the blog or content is really about. We can have the most valuable content in the world but because of certain distractions and annoyances, people will not get a chance to read it. We only have 1 chance to make a strong first impression. So let's make it the best one yet. Yes, you are right about content rich sites. As long as there is a solution to a problem or a wake up call, there is value. People will come to us and we wouldn't have to chase anyone around. For example, someone wants to make a perfect hole in the wall. They would just hate it if we pushed so hard to sell them our drill. Instead, why not we provide them a valuable solution and within the solution let's present our drill. They will definitely come to us considering the fact they see us as an expert in that field.

That's great to hear Alexa. I'm in the book of value as well.

      Thanks again!

Balance is vital to long term success. The content must be of high quality and give the reader the value they deserve for coming to your blog.

This is very typical because many bloggers get so stuck on using proper SEO and getting Google ranking they forget to write for those reading their material.

      Hello Benjamin,

Yes, balance is very vital for long term success. I actually know people who forget to sell. It's important to sell and give value and make sure the two are balanced. Value always comes first though.

Yes, you have a great point there. It's always important to think and see like our prospects and readers do every once in a while. Our blogs is also a means of developing relationships and connecting with people on a more personal level to a point where it feels like we're actually talking to them.

Thank you very much for your answer Benjamin!

I got a blog running which offers people information. I love to think and talk about the topic, hence I thought about creating a blog about it.

I am collecting email adresses though, just in case I decide to market the thing. But the hard part is providing content in a steady fashion. I am trying to get people to write for me on the blog to get that steady stream of content. But they don't take it all that seriously though.

Wanted to post the URL but it seems that since I installed Pop Up Domination it will give you java errors and virus alerts. Don't want to give you any damage.

Anyway, I think the best way to market something is when you enjoy doing it, enjoy the topic you talk about and really having a fun time with other people, building a community. When you gain trust, you can give them honest reviews about stuff with your affiliate link in the bottom.

      Hey Steven,

Yes, you really got a point there. You have to really enjoy what you're doing to make this really work out. Our main goal here is to build trust and make people see us as an expert and leader that they are looking for.

As for coming up with new fresh content, what I do is I keep studying new things. Get good at one thing to a point where people will see you as an expert on that field. Just teach what you learn. Another is visit other blogs and read books.

      Anyways thanks for your answer!
