Starting out and want to do it the right way, no tricks, need help

Hello everyone,
i have been reading and researching and pretty much have a basic idea of what i want to offer my clients locally.

Most of my target market has little to no presence online and keyword searches don't show them in the results.

I want to be able to offer them a website/mobile website plus high ranking on google, page one.

I have a good idea of what SEO is but not really how to apply it, i can deal with the meta info and site content and that should help rank it but how do i rank them well with the keywords i need?

Do i have to pay for blog reviews, backlinks and such?
Can't one legitimately work the site to first page result without tricks in a non-competitive area?

It all depends how competitive the market is.

Most markets you will need to use an SEO company
especially moving forward as the Internet gets more
    and more competitive.

However remember it's all about ROI. If you can make your
client a good ROI it doesn't matter how much you spend on SEO.
    It's all relative.

So i should assume that most SEO rankings do involve some sort of trick/backlink/paid-blog post etc.

It's just i've been learning about actual SEO these past days and it seems that optimizing your site through correct code, meta info, content and the actual site itself won't do much to rank it.

I don't have a problem if i do have to go through services that push me up so it's cool, i just want to be clear i should stop learning about keywords, adwords etc etc

    Thx

If most your target market doesn't have an internet presence and/or you're targeting a local market with local keywords then good onsite seo, using keywords is probably all that you need.

If you are aiming to rank for, say, "florist in yourtown" and there are only three florists there, it will be easy to get into the top 3 on p1 of Google.

Be wary of seo companies who insist you "have" to use their services or you won't show in Google. For low competition keywords, especially local ones, that's just rubbish.

Sorry everyone that's posted before this, but that's the truth.

Put up your site, optimise it for the keywords you want to use and see what happens.

Paying for backlinks is rarely a good idea unless you know exactly where they will be coming from. If you think that backlinking is necessary, you can do it yourself for a low competition keyword.

It all boils down to competition the more competition there is in your clients niche the harder you will have to work to get it to rank on the first page of Google.

Most local companies are fairly easy to rank for if you know at least basic seo you should at least be able to help them out.

If it is highly competitive more quality backlinks, unique content, meta tags, etc... Are going to come more into play.

You can get local businesses a presence and ranking page one of google pretty simply, I've done it.

You can either keep it generic and sell the page one site to the highest bidder for a monthly fee or else you can tell someone else you can do it for them.

I find it is easier to sell if you already have it on page one to show them before you talk to them.

You'll be lucky to go straight into anything the right way unfortunately.

If you're trying to beat competition, SEO quickly.

Not black hat spam, but have a few hundred unique articles ready, a directory submitter (WSO named Backlink Bulldog here is amazing) and be prepared to rush into it.

Take a day out and spend your time solely on submitting those articles to various directories such as:

    - Free Articles Directory | Submit Articles - ArticlesBase.com
    - Premium Directory - Free Article Directory

You'll gain incredible link juice and quickly.

Next launch your directory submission campaign, this will get you a ton of slow release backlinks, which will boost your rankings high enough to be confident to stop for a few weeks.

Once you've started your site up and generating steady organic traffic, start to SEO a little slower, mybe 1 or 2 articles a day, a few link directory submissions, you get the idea

Need more help? Feel free to PM me, I'm ALWAYS willing to help with SEO matters

    Jamie.

Hi, i can't PM yet i think so can you give me more info on this, what exactly about submitting articles helps with SEO?
I can't use the software you mentioned because i'm on a mac.

I live in a spanish speaking country so i'm guessing i will write the articles myself and then submit them.

Is directory submission like submission to sites like ubl.org offers but individually little by little?

Please pm me with any info you might be able to get my way.
      Thanks a lot to everyone!

You don't have to buy backlinks or anything like that, simply create them yourself! There are tons of topics in this forum about how to create good, high quality backlinks.

Remember that Google geo-targets. So create a site for your clients and use basic keywords for their business, plus keywords for their location.

    Also:

    * Create a Places page for each client. See Google's blog on Places: Official Google Blog: Introducing Google Places

    * Get your clients a review or two on review sites like Yelp.com.

    * Write a press release (or get one written) to announce each client's new web presence, plus a coupon offer, or some other offer...

  • Amnesiac- Lot of good info here.

The biggest problem I see with almost all websites is that they don't have a "call to action" and then the site owners call me to help increase their conversions.

"Why don't we get more sales?"

"Because you aren't asking anyone to buy!"

The web visitor doesn't do anything because no one is asking them. No one is asking them to call, no one is asking them to sign up for an e-mail list, no one is asking them to click to a sales page or anything else.

Also, once you have your sites set up, make sure you have a way that web visitors can contact the vendor. Simple contact information is often overlooked.

Depending on the site, you will get results by offering a giveaway in exchange for an email address. You would be surprised how much higher the conversion rate is from a list you've built a relationship with than from regular web visitors!
