Trusted Authority vs Expert

A very interesting discussion on trusted authority vs expert has been bandied about lately. How many use being a trusted authority or an expert or both in their niches and how did you get there?

Writing a book would be one way to be an expert as it gives credibility.

Participating in forum discussions would be another. Being helpful.

Anyone have other suggestions and want to weigh in on is there really a difference between trusted authority and expert and what those might be.

A trusted authority has the track record that is provable via other links that go back for years.

An expert - heck, *anyone* can portray themselves as an expert. It's very easy to be perceived as an expert.

99% of the folk out there are too lazy to do their own research and solve their own issues, so if you always present yourself with always having the answer, you'll be perceived as an expert in no time flat.

I was easily able to gain expert status in real estate, although I've never been a realtor, for example.

I've been a trusted authority in SEO and marketing now since 1997 because I've walked the walk I talk now ever since that time. It's provable via my mentions in Inc magazine, the Wall Street Journal, etc.etc.etc.

    So I would say....do BOTH.

They'll both contribute to your bottom line.
