Where do you get the affiliates for your products

I wanted to ask this on how can you find affiliates for your product e.g.IM niche
Is there a strategy you follow to get affiliates
I know you will say list in affiliate directories and I don't think that can bring in some good affiliates
If you have a working strategy on getting super affiliates or OK affiliates PLEASE SHARE....

Thanks in advance.

You get known by other IM marketers and ideally have a big huge 'Join my Affiliate Program' call to action on your blog.

    That be one way....

Contact the affiliates directly. 90% of your sales are going to come from the top 5% - 10% of affiliates. The other 90% are going to give your the rest. So contact the top affiliates directly.

Go to google, check the top 10 websites that do reviews for your niche / market / product type and contact the webmasters directly. Do not try and attract 1000's to start with as most of your sales are only going to come from the top 10 guys.

One method I heard about that is suppose to work well is to mail the top 10 guys a physical letter (not just an email) with a 1 dollar USD bill attached (stapled) asking them if they would consider promoting your product as you would like to send them more of these 1 dollar bills. Never tried this, but if someone did the effort to send me such a letter asking me to consider promoting their product then I would have a good look at it.

    Courting Affiliates Checklist! -

    1. Who are you and why should I trust you?
    2. Why is your product relevant to my audience?
    3. How can you prove to me it does what you say it does?
    4. How can you prove its quality?
    5. What is its sales history? How well does it convert?
    6. How many refunds have you had to give?
    7. Can you handle the quantity of potential sales I may send you (web server performance? paypal slap, support capabilities?)
    8. What commissions are you offering me?
    9. Can you offer me anything extra as a super affiliate?

Obviously the "smaller" the affiliate the less important the answers to these questions are, but smaller affiliates will have exactly the same concerns as big ones.

Opportunist Affiliates just looking to promote anything will be watching clickbank/affiliate networks and looking at your sales rankings and refund rates, which imply the answers to a lot of the above.
