Okay I'm I would like to start my journey in the world of IM but I have to admit this seems pretty overwhelming.

However one of the things that gives me hope is this forum, reading the posts in all of the forums it seems like there many people who actually succeeding on some level.

Now I've been reading and researching for a few months and was led to believe the quickest way to start out for someone on a limited budget was to promote as affiliate through article marketing.

Then I was told that the major article directories will not accept affiliate links so I got a squidoo lens and got an article submitted but I'm getting any traffic.

1. Am I missing another step in the equation?
2. How many articles are enough?
3. Are there any other traffic sources that work other than ADWORDS?

Thanks Guys

Do you submit your squidoo lens to social bookmarking sites? Do you comment blogs with the keyword you want to rank for as the name? There's no such thing as "enough" articles.. submit new ones until you rank for the keyword you want to rank for.

have someone outside of IM read your articles (and your lens), and give you an honest opinion.

it may not be compelling enough to click through, or the headline may be too weak to grab attention

    use the AIDA concept

    attention
    interest
    desire
    action

    grab attention with the headline

build interest within the first paragraph

create a desire to have the problem solved in the body

and have a call to action, by providing a solution in the resource box

and on the lens, put your affiliate link in various positions.....some people close earlier than others, and once a customer is ready to buy, the link has to be there

alswo, for longer term traffic, build your articles and the lens around long tail keywords with less competition

I would forget article marketing, it is overrated. PPC and video marketing are what work for me. Just my 2 cents.

@plcarr: Article Marketing is a GREAT place for you to start but it's like anything else, you need to know what your doing. The good news is that it's not that complicated. I would suggest taking some time with some good Article Marketing ebooks before you do anymore writing. You need to learn the basics. Feel free to pm me and I'll point you in the right direction.

      Good Luck,

My site does not seem to ever receive much traffic even though it has a lot of content. Not sure myself what to suggest to you. Just keep asking for help until more traffic comes. There many professionals here.

Why don't you get your own site? It's going to be difficult selling anything on squidoo when it's full of ads and links to other sites.

    My own opinion,

The way I do it is I actually care for what I am promoting or selling, I have really intent to make my sites good, and to put my articles on my site and on article sites.

You cannot have your affiliate link on an article site? who says you have to put it there anyway?

The way to put any link on any article is again to your own site, to a lead capture page, where you have people sign up and THEN you show them your affiliate link.

This way you build a list to promote to, and you are driving traffic to your affiliate links.

No one said it is an easy job, it is a job alright, building an online business is not as easy as making money online.

Anyone can make a couple of hundred dollars and that is it, but it take going the extra steps to build a business that constantly produced an income to you.

So here are the "not so simple" steps:
    1. Have a website or blog related to the niche you want to promote (EXTREMELY IMPORTANT, you will not sell dog food to cat owners)
    2. Male sure to write some good things there, things that people will read, never promote things, never sound pushy or "selly", become a friend.
    3. have an autoresponder account and make sure to have a 5 to 10 email sequence where you offer your best advice on that particular niche, write as if you are writing to your own friend.
    4. make sure to have lead capture pages ready for the things you want to promote and embed the code from the autoresponder.
    5. write articles and in them put the link to your lead capture page
    6. put the articles (different versions of them) on different article sites.
    7. drive social traffic to the articles by social-bookmarking them
    8. make sure that after people join your lead capture page you direct them to the products you want to promote.
you have 2 opportunities to promote just on that proces.
the first one is when they subscribe and get a thank you page
the second one is the page that opens up after they confirm
    9. after your email sequence you start promoting your affiliate products to the list, always as an advice from a trusted friend.
    10. continue building a relationship and promoting

Is it hard work? maybe. Is it going to take a long time? could be. Is it the best way to start building a business? in my humble opinion, ABSOLUTELY!

Start there, if you need help PM me and I will do a quick review of what you have been doing.

    I hope this helps

Do you know that you can ping the rss feed of your squidoo lens at places such as pingler.com everytime you create a new lens.

This will bring you some traffic and backlins to your lens.

    Hope This Helps!!!
