Warning - FB can remove any FB Fan page

Note to fellow warriors. FB can and will remove your FB fan pages. I learned the hard way not to put all the eggs in one basket. I had over 3 pages devoted to dogs with a combined fan base of 10,000. Today, without warning all 3 were removed and given a standard lame explanation that they violated FB's TOS.

Do you have any idea what specifically caused them to break the TOS?

I mean we have pages to get 1,000,000 fans to name a kid Megatron so really how hard are the rules?

    Did they?

Not pointing fingers at you personally, but I see bunches of people coming here to moan about some site or other removing their content, closing accounts, etc. for TOS violations. Most of the time, those people have not bothered to read the TOS.

I'm willing to bet that the names of your pages were generic, right? Read the TOS for pages and I'm sure you'll figure out why they were removed.

    P.S. A site's TOS is considered warning.

Kind of like many of the other third party sites. It just doesn't work out so well to build a business on them because they can and do take down pages and sites at any time.

It's the one of bad results from using free services. You don't have control about it.

That's why you have to play within their rules. If you do, you shouldn't have an issue. Yes, plenty of people are getting away with all types of shenanigans on Facebook, but it's just a matter of when they will get caught.

For whatever reason FB likes to take pages that get past 10,000. I've read and we're guessing it's a bot that just takes them down.

1 way "fanpage marketers" are finding that has saved people from the 10K ban is when you create your fanpage click on the PRODUCT top right box and then the category make it WEBSITE

The guess is if you make a page with the category "website" the bot won't take it down or take control of it because you may actually own a website related to it.

So go back and create the same page using the top right corner product and call it a website.

You're supposed to be the official representative of the company/product/person/etc that the page is about. Just making a page about something generic like "Dogs" is a recipe for disaster since no one can claim to be the official representative of dogs. It will be turned into a community page and admin rights will be removed.

That said, your advice is spot on. If you make it a website and have an actual website about it, preferably with a domain name similar to the page name, then you should be ok.

You are correct, Facebook doesn't owe anyone anything, but if you play within their rules, their site and many other 3rd party sites can drive a ton of traffic and essentially "build" your business. You just have to use common sense and play within their TOS>

thanks for the post. It's a pity viat only a Few understand that fb is neither traffic generator nor money maker. It's just a media for exposure.
The readers of this post should think before investing time and money on fb.

That's funny, I can show you a list 10 miles long of people that would disagree with you. Facebook can and certainly does generate both traffic and money when done right. If people are spamming the crap out of people (note: just because person A doesn't think something is spam doesn't mean people B, C and D don't think it's spam) and/or not abiding by Facebook's TOS then obviously it's not going to work for them.

What do you think happens when someone posts a link to an article that their friends/fans are interested in? People clicking on it and reading it at the site that it's on means traffic has been generated. This happens billions of time each day on Facebook.

      This post is contradicting.

FB is not a traffic generator but a media for exposure? How is that not the same thing?

      I disagree with this.

Even if Facebook is a media for exposure, that exposure will turn into "traffic generator and money maker". Facebook can bridge people to your site easily if used properly.

Anyways, make sure you create fan pages with the intent to brand your own business rather than creating another "Make Monies" page. Facebook will definitely remove your page or admin rights to such pages that they cannot determine the original owner or source.

      Facebook Pages Terms

      1. Any user may create a Page; however, only an authorized representative of the subject matter may administer the Page. Pages with names consisting solely of generic or descriptive terms will have their administrative rights removed.

it should be automatically assumed if your posting content on a site other than one hosted by yourself, that it can be removed without warning no matter if it's facebook or any free blogging platform.

One possible reason may be, there are many duplicate fan pages (with identical themes). I thin facebook is trying to remove those pages. So that only the genuine ones remains.

Facebook has really focused on cutting down spam a lot more lately. If you start a new facebook page and randomly start adding hundreds of people they will block you. The people you add now must be linked or else they consider it spamming. You also will need phone verification on new accounts! When you make a fan page it is very easy to be too active and post tons of links and messages. That is an easy way to get banned. I would take it easy when building a fan page try not to grow it to quickly. There just is too much to lose. Facebook is such a great way to market, you don't want to lose that avenue of marketing

Excuse my ignorance, but the only thing i can see of potential benefit from FB is the ad's, which are targeted to specific groups.... I made a FB Page for my "JKBowen INC" which is pretty much my IM niche marketing site and i cant figure how to get people to go to that page without using the AD's. I first tried an ad that pointed to my fanpage which points to my website's squeeze page, but then i switched it to point directly to my squeeze/optin page and got much better results. I guess its my newbieness showing through, but how can one get people to go to their page......?

One more question. Since they took down my 3 FB Fan pages, and it is against their TOS to open multiples accounts (ie. Im stuck with mine) is my IP now also redflagged or banned by FB's BOT? I wanna create a more specialized FB fan page, not as generic, but don;t wanna build and get it taken away because they view my IP address as malicious

I can't speak for FB, but my guess is that if they thought your IP address (your actual account) was malicious, you'd have lost that, too.

You aren't the first one to go wrong creating fan pages and you won't be the last...

I'll post in here one more time. I'm not saying I'm 100% safe by any means but what I posted earlier has worked past 10,000 fans.

One of my most profitable pages is over 40,000 fans right now.

With that said, if I started to spam them with crap they didn't want I would get complaints and probably get my page(s) taken away.

I'm not saying you were spamming but that is another way they can "find" you.

  • Thanks for the great reminder. You should NEVER trust a third party with all of your web assets. In other words, if you're getting ALL your traffic from Facebook, you're in big trouble.

A better strategy is to master 1 traffic source, systematize it, outsource it, then move on and work on building an additional traffic source, etc.

Before you know it you've got 3 or 4 main traffic sources and you're making WAY MORE money than you need... and if one traffic source dries up, your business isn't dead in the water.

A lot of gurus say that you can put buttons on the header and sell advertising space on a FB Fan page. For example if you are in the chiropractor niche and have a fan page of 6,000 potential patients you can sell ad space right on your page to chiropractors. Isnt this also against FB's TOS??

Make your website the authority place for your visitors to be and not FB.

Add great content to your site and share the post link with others on FB but never sell on FB. You want to draw them to your site for more control.

I also have several pages removed. FB has been keen on removing FB pages who cater for internet marketing or gaining profits. They now realize how IMs are making use of their pages for their personal use.
