Where to find Free Advice?

Hey All,

I am eager to get into IM and have been reading warrior forums for months. I keep reading posts about all the free advice that I can obtain on WF, but to be honest I'm lost. Sorting through all the threads here has my head spinning. So can anyone give me some ideas on how to sort through all this and get focused on one approach? I need simple step by step directions for a complete newbie.

I don't know how to use wordpress at all, no idea what tools I should be using, so on and so forth. I also read a lot of threads about how to make money quick. That's not what I am looking for. I want to build a sustainable business. I want to pick one strategy, learn everything I can about it starting with the basics, and make it work. Then I will work on a second revenue stream. But trying to sort through the thousands of threads, WSOs and figure out what is good and what isn't could take years!

Any Suggestions? Is there a blog outside of WF that might be what I'm looking for? A certain WSO you would recommend for a beginner? I cannot afford 1 on 1 mentoring yet so this needs to be a low cost solution.

Thanks for the help!

    Steve,

There is a LOT of info overload on here...no doubt!

Narrow the focus by looking at just the 5 star posts in the main forum....Go through the ones that revolve around specifc blueprints or gameplans. Then, narrow it down to the one that resonates well with you in terms of the methodology and execution.

That's how I would approach the overload!

    Michael

P.S. Click the ratings link at the top of the main forum to show all of the 5 star posts

To be absolutely honest heresteve2, there is most certainly a great deal of excellent advice here, but by the same token, there is just as much absolutely dreadful advice ...

Many very knowledgeable Warriors will go to great lengths to explain an issue in numerous threads, yet, all the time, people continue to click from thread to thread, just read the title, and hammer away on their keyboard without even bothering to read the thread at all. The unfortunate outcome is, a lot of inexperienced marketers who simply don't know better, accept their opinions as being correct.

Some posts here are real gems. I suggest you just continue browsing and reading. Given time, you will gain the experience to sort the wheat from the chaff.

Good luck in your endeavors ...

      Steve,
      • Formulate your business model first: Adsense, Amazon, product creation, affiliate marketing, etc.. Focus only on ONE model at the beginning.
      • Start making a plan for yourself. Decide on what you need. Website, autoresponder?, etc.
      • Write a business plan
      • Ask specific questions to fill up blanks in your plan
PM me if you need additional advise.

I'm your Mirror... LOL! I just started looking into WF but have been marketing online for a few months now. Biggest lesson I'm learning is trial and error. Google your Niche and then drill it down to a specific "Niche" Mine for example is Marketing / Online Marketing / Marketing on Craigslist. Then you can start to develop your business plan for how you want to "Market" your service.

Would be happy to work with you on a Networked Word Press Blog Service - All set up just learn how to maintain it. Plugins are already installed and being added too monthly.

I am a member of the SuperFastResults forum.
It's a paid IM forum but it is set out much better
for a complete beginner with starter threads and course.
It will save you months of trying to find a needle in a hay stack.

Hope this helps. Maybe see you in there.

OK, here we go: getting started on building a sustainable business. :-)

    1. Choose something to promote

Understand that Internet marketing is: MARKETING.

You need to start with the "4 Ps" of marketing: Marketing mix - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

    Product
    Price
    Promotion
    Place

Here, on the WF, everyone is talking about marketing, usually as PROMOTION. This is fine, but you must start with a product -- what are you SELLING? "Product" is the first step in the 4Ps. Nothing happens until someone sells something.

Forget everything else, and choose something to PROMOTE; choose a product.

At the WF, we all get hung up on promotions: SEO, backlinking, article marketing, blogging, list building... and on, and on.

    Choose a product first...

Here's the simplest way: go to ClickBank and choose something/ anything which appeals to you.

Buy the product. Then READ the product.

OK, now we've got 2 of the 4Ps out of the way: Product, and Price.

    2. Promote the product

How will you promote the product? That depends on the audience for your product. You've bought the product, you've used the product.

Here's the simplest way to promote it: use your WF signature file. Join ClickBank and get the hop link for the product you've purchased. Add the hoplink to your sig file.

    See? Already you're selling. :-)

You've now got Promotion and Place accomplished too.

Everything else is just planning, and execution...

Add other forms of promotion. Here's something that's easy to do: write a review of the product and post the review on a Blogger blog.

Then write some articles on the topic of your product, and link to the Blogger blog in your resource box.

Here's the ONE fact you need to be aware of re promotion... You promote to an audience.

Choosing the audience, and understanding your audience is key. However, that understanding takes time. Don't worry about it for now. Just be aware that it's important...

    Repeat #1 and #2.

    Keep the 4Ps in mind:

    Product
    Price
    Promotion
    Place

Work through #1 and #2, adding other forms of promotion as you learn them.

Hey presto -- you're an Internet marketer, specifically, an affiliate marketer. You're SELLING. You'll make money.

    Easy, right? :-)

Just FYI, you can't have an affiliate link in your sig file. Need to send that link to a page on your site that reviews the product or something.

    There's some great advice above.

Just 7 months ago I didn't know what the hell a FTP client was? or a web editor?

The first things you're going to need is patience and a solid plan of action.

Don't get caught up in a buyer's mindset, as it's easy to fall for all the "get rich quich" -"1-click to riches" BS!!!

Take a look at this video tutorial series. There's 100+ videos that take you from total 'noob' to and 'intermediate' level.

This is the cheapest suggestion, I can offer without 'hand holding' or you spending months learning the technical basics. Aside from the cartoon graphics, I can say this is a great starting point for beginners.

Here's the link: http://meknowwordpress.com (*Not an affiliate link)

I also have had some experience with SuperFastResults, and James Schramko is an excellent teacher!

Before spending a dime... ask yourself; "Will I use this product and put it into action for a profit?

Too many people fall victim to buying stuff they don't need, never use, then complain it didn't work. Do yourself a favor, avoid that path and conduct ample...

    RESEARCH!!!

    All the Best,

      Take a deep breath...

We've all been where you are. Here's what I'd tell you, and I've spent a ton of time and money on "IM".

Free advice is great, but like you've found it's not organized or necessarily helpful if you don't know what you're looking for.

      I'd recommend doing the following:

Pick ONE thing, ONE course, and IMPLEMENT IT AS TAUGHT. There are a million scams out there, but some good stuff too.

I'm not sellling anything, I have no sig file, I just know how frustrating it is to be in your spot.

If you like the idea of affiliate marketing, great. Then find a great course on affiliate marketing and IMPLEMENT IT AS TAUGHT. (I bought a course from Tom Ness that I think is great for beginners. Check out his stuff).

Adsense more your thing? - get 100k adsense blueprint and IMPLEMENT IT AS TAUGHT. This is a great course if you like the idea of adsense.

Another great adsense resource is adsenseflippers . com

However, do not spend money chasing a dream. Don't invest $2,000 in software that you don't know how to use, etc.

There's a time for all that. Right now, learn the basics.

Be willing to spend a few bucks for a served up on a platter plan, and IMPLEMENT IT AS TAUGHT.

Your already did Step One - deciding what you want to do with your life.

    Step Two - Learn wordpress!
I would try and stay away from forums or blog sites at this moment as they will overload you with too much information and you won't get anywhere. Go grab yourself a book like 'Wordpress Web Design for Dummies' and learn all the necessary skills you need to learn or you could head to lynda(dot)com. They have all the resources and the best thing about it it's all recorded on VIDEO. Meaning you can fast track your skills because they show you all easy step by step instructions.

Step Three - Learn SEO and Link Building
Learn the basics of SEO and Keyword research

    Resources:
Affilorama (dot) com - owned by Mark Ling a well known affiliate marketer
seoexpertsacademy(dot)com - owned by Matt carter - IM and SEO expert

Step Four - Marketing and Planning
Plan your business and learn how to sell online.

    Resources:
perrymarshall(dot)com - Adwords and Keyword Expert
marketingtips(dot)com or internetmarketing(dot)com - previous owner Derek Gehl (retired) and Corey Rudl (past away) - one of the first internet marketers online and influenced me to learn Internet Marketing.
Affilorama (dot) com - owned by Mark Ling a well known affiliate marketer. He is one of the top affiliate marketers online and very resourceful and he doesn't spam you to death with offers unlike many other affiliate marketers.

This should keep you going for a while.
Once you learn all of the above you should be able to put everything together and create your very own online business.
Just a reminder, try to focus on one thing at a time or else you will procrastinate and find the Right Mindset as this is your fuel and foundation to drive you a long way.

Another recommendation, when you're not in front of your computer it's handy to download some topics about internet marketing and seo from iTunes podcast. Listen to them while you're doing your daily exercise or driving to your normal job. Also attend Webinars you will find the latest tools and marketing tips from top Internet marketers.

Go get yourself a domain name for 10 bucks and start promoting Amazon. Thats how I got started and I now have over 20 websites. Not all of them make money, but I just ditch the ones that don't and continue building. Its fun and rewarding and I know a ton of people that have started this way. People are always going to buy stuff like tvs, computers, and other physical products on the web. Sometimes for the beginner, this is a little easier to grasp than say creating and trying to build a mailing list and selling different info products. I may be biased being a member but, you should Google the Amz Training Academy.

I don't know how to use wordpress at all
      OK - start right there!

Do a google search for "how to use wordpress" and for "how to install wordpress with fantastico".

Look up basic info about "how to choose a niche" and "how to do keyword research". Register a domain. Get a low cost hosting account with hostgator (just get that instead of posting 10 times about "what is best hosting" and save yourself some time). Put up your first blog and then follow with info given by others in this thread.

Whenever you find yourself saying "I don't know how to...." start looking for answers and LEARN to do whatever it is. You can also use the search on this forum and search for "keyword" and "titles" in the advanced search.

the problem with free advice is that its like a puzzle, you have to out it together pice by piece, the best way would be to find a popular marketer who makes a ton of money and reverse engineer his business model and marketing to the best of your ability.

You have the right idea, heresteve2, to build a sustainable business rather than latching on to a get rich quick scheme.

The advice here is all over the map. Some good stuff by experienced Internet marketers and a lot of "noise" from people who don't know what they are doing.

I have a free 300+ page "Internet Marketing 101" ecourse that would be a good starting point for you. I set it up deliberately for beginners and it is the core of my Internet mentorship program.
