Power of owning your own product

Now days its nearly impossible to promote an affiliate program on adwords without getting slapped. Worse still afiliate marketing has become saturated !
The best alternative is owning your own product. Ideas- ebook, twitter fans supply, youtube views, fiverr-like network. The possibilities are endless. add on the list please.

I agree...owning your own product can be very profitable...There is so much crap coming out on clickbank lately that it is hard to be an affiliate and promote a high quality product unless you really do some extensive research...

    sexy sue,

I totally agree with you and it's so easy for anyone these days to create a product of their own, such as an ebook and sell it online at places such as webkept.com, clickbank.com, digiresults.com, click2sell.com, paydotcom.com, etc.

I created my first ebook back in 1996 and I still sell that same ebook till this day online.

    All the best,

    Martin

Very true. Owning your own product is great.

Personally though, I feel like affiliate marketing gave me a great platform to stand on when I made my own product. I learned tons of skills that I was able to put into play faster than if I had created a product myself.

I find I am better and creating and selling products BECAUSE of my affiliate marketing experience.

I totally agree with the posts about its best to own your own product. I have done the affiliate thing and to me the rewards were not worth the effort when compared to promoting and selling my own product.

I'd add to your list general membership sites that target high consumption niches. IOW target customers who can't seem to get enough information about the niche so they go through the content quickly and are always looking for more. Once you have that niche identified, over deliver to keep them in the membership as long as possible.

I may have just never figured out the best way to crack affiliate marketing; however, I do seem to get marketing my own products. Maybe I'm just more engaged when it's my own stuff I'm promoting? Whatever it may be, my motive or the model, it works for me.

It's late and I'm grumpy so I'm going to (nicely) disagree.

Affiliate marketing vs. Product creation isn't and EITHER OR situation. They are different business models and/or different revenue streams for a single business owner.

Regardless of whether you're an affiliate or product creator - you still have to get traffic and Adwords is only one source of traffic. Plus product creators using adwords can have the exact same problems as affiliate marketers using adwords.

I'm trying to escape the this is better than that mentality for my online ventures and my day to day life. You see it in the fitness industry all the time and the reality is... all methods are good and most methods complement.

A chain is only as strong as it's weakest link - variety and rounding strengthens those links.

    Time for bed me-thinks!

I think I would like to agree with you to an extend, of course having your own product is the best as people want to relate to your experiences, however, the traffic issue you mentioned is key, without it, you are doomed whether it's your own product or not.

Question: Has anyone tried selling affiliate products via newspapers, (yes, that's offline)? And what would you say the results were?

True. Half the fun of IM is all the different ways you can mix and match your efforts. As long as you are not too diffused you can get really creative with marketing. E.g., look at the people promoting CPA offers totally offline and making bank.

If you take extra care you can make affiliate marketing work for you without a doubt. I personally love selling my own stuff and that will always be my main focus

I also enjoy mixing the two. You don't have to stop marketing affiliate products because you have your own product or the other way around. You can easily do both, even on the same website. No need to limit yourself!

Oh, definitely own a string of your own products. Doesn't matter what they are as long as they are good and they are sought after.

I recently started my own string, found some white label software and such and going to build it up.

With all the crap out there on CB, Plimus, etc, it is best to start doing this. Adwords will not spank you if it is your own stuff. Better yet, if you have a blog attached to your sales page (for Adwords purposes).

Having your own product is great, but there are a lot of advantages to other business models too.

For example, how quickly can you come up with a great product? Plus, do you really want to constantly be creating new products just to sell to your list?

Probably not. So when your list is tired of seeing you promote your own product 10 times, you can switch to affiliate marketing as you build your next product.

Branding yourself can get a much further reach. Always remember to start valuing the content that you do create from the onset. You may otherwise end up with oodles of free content that could have been structured as a paid product.

You can use other product. You just have to do it creatively. If you don't have a creative bone, then sure it's better to have your own unique thing. I mean if you could be the exclusive Apple Iphone reseller you'de be set.

MARKETING DOES NOT BEGIN AND END ON GOOGLE

Worse still afiliate marketing has become saturated ! The best alternative is owning your own product.
If selling someone else's product is saturated, how is selling your own product not just as saturated? Doesn't that just mean selling products is saturated?

    Short version: BULLSQUAT

Nothing is saturated and nothing is nearly impossible. Do you know what a lot of people are saying these days? Product creation is saturated, and promoting your own product is nearly impossible. Because there are too many people making products, and competing with some of those big names and great reputations isn't easy.

Do you know what that really means? Let me translate:

"I SUCK AT THIS. IT MUST BE TOO HARD."

No it isn't. Look, I suck infected monkey balls at affiliate marketing, and I can still pay my bills and buy my groceries with it. If you can't, maybe you just suck. If I worked harder at affiliate marketing, I would probably get good at it. But instead, I worked as hard as I worked and said "I don't want to do this for a living." So I'm not worried about it.

It is the cry of a worthless loser to say "it is that thing's fault I wasn't any good at it." It's your fault. Get better or move on, but don't blame the business model for your own failures.

Ya, honestly, I've never used adwords for my affiliate marketing and I do rather well with my affiliate marketing sites. In fact, the only paid traffic I like to use is banner ads.

Any method can work, you just need to try hard, be consistent, and find what works for you. Personally, I like using a mix of affiliate marketing and product creation.

Yes I do agree..while there are still cons to it...when you create and own your own information products, you are entering a new realm where you are free. You are free to set your own prices, make your own money and make your own decisions. You are free to present the information you would like to share with the world. You’ll enjoy this freedom while knowing that you’re providing valuable information as well.

don't forget the most important part, affiliates who work around the clock for you and jv partners who will email their big giant list's for you.

Owning your own product is great, but it by no means takes away from affiliate marketing. Product creation and affiliate marketing both have their place in internet marketing. Internet marketing doesn't rely on one side over the other, but both are very much needed because of the benefits and weaknesses each has to offer.

We are making creating a product seem so easy, but it is not. It takes just as much work to create your own product and make money out of it. You have to make sure you have traffic, a great quality product in your niche to get initial buyers and repeat visits and even getting affiliates yourself.

If you are selling your own product, you can't really separate the two, can you?

Having the own product is great idea where you can take 100% profits. But if the product is not moving or up to the mark. You may get frustrated.

Where as with the affiliate product promotion the opportunities are endless .Nothing to loose other than the profits.
