How About Registering domain with two "--" together?

I want to register a niche domain but was taken by others,even with one "-",so I plan to register it with two "--",what is your opinion on seo aspect?

    Nice idea however two hyphens in a row are not allowed in a domain.

    My apologies your right I just tested it! I was reading an article from a Domain Name company that didn't allow it..

    Personally though I wouldn't have a domain name with two hyphens -- but that's my personal opinion

      I haven't tried it anytime. Anyway I wouldn't prefer '--' too. Try keeping just one hyphen but at a different place if your domain name is something like goforit . com then go-forit . com or gofor-it . com.

      well,But I am not sure it is right, maybe.....godaddy has such error when searching but it can;t be sucessfully puchased? I never puchase any one this kind of domain till now.

    Don't get a domain with hyphens!

    Forget SEO reasons - google dosnt mind them -- think of REAL PEOPLE, who will be talking about your site.

    Say i own worldsbestdogs .com
    Now say Jenny want's to tell Max about my site; "oh, have you tried worlds best dogs .com?", "No Jen, that site sounds great, i'll do that when i get home".

    If you owned worlds-best-dogs .com -- To tell someone about the site, they would have to say "worlds hyphen best hyphen dogs .com" And if they didnt -- it just means free visitors for the person with the site without the hyphens.

      HaHa,thank you, it is a nice joke as example,but If I don't want to promote it offline,and you imagine people search from google and see such domain at first page.does people think uncomfortable about it and ignore it? maybe it can attract people's eye more ? I am not sure....:rolleyes:

        I tried entering a double hyphen on two domain registration sites - and both gave me error pages.

        I would not try a double hyphen but if you want to and a register will do it, it's your money.

        Not true at all. I can rank and earn with a domain that has hyphens just as well as without. People are quick to post opinions (or what they've read elsewhere) as fact but that doesn't make them true.

          I also find this to be true and have several domains with hyphens. While I think it could hinder 'typed' traffic slightly, the benefits of having a highly targeted keyword(s) with a top level .com, .net, .org ...'hyphenated' - can outweigh the loss of typed traffic.

          While I really haven't gotten into 'redirecting' domains yet , it could also be considered those hyphenated domains could bring the broad search traffic, redirect to a more memorable 'type-in' domain.

          As far as having '--' it doesn't appear to be doable. I have also (*in a late night infomercial mindset) bout some 3 letter domains separated with 2 hyphens... such as; (p-l-r) for example, but still haven't really developed any of them yet.

    OP asked if there were any SEO reasons not to use a double -- domain name. But all the answers here are opinions based on...

    Domain names with hyphens are more difficult to remember, therefore, rely more on SEO than building a loyal following. Here are some of my rules for buying domains:

    1) Never buy a domain with hyphens unless you are sure that you can rank in the top 10 for a major keyword.
    2) Never buy a domain with more than 10 letters unless it is an exact keyword match.
    3) If you want the option of selling the domain, never buy .info. You can rank well in search engines with .info, but they sell for less in auctions.
    4) Avoid numbers, and if at all possible make the domain name something people can remember.
    5) Here are some of my favorite tools for helping in this task: Google keyword tool, Domain Exposer, GoDaddy Bulk Domain Name Registration, Traffic Travis.

      Domain names with hyphens also make a name easier to read and remember and if you do your SEO and positioning properly people can find your site.

      My objection is in stating "don't do this" when it's not necessary to avoid something. I prefer no hyphens but will use a hyphen if I need to for the keywords I want. There is no right/wrong to it - you use what fits what you want to do.

      One of my best sites has four hyphens. Go figure.
