Types of hosting, - Cpanel question

This might sound dumb, but I am sure there are others not sure as well.

Hostgator and Bluehost use Cpanel.

Is Cpanel a software package made for host companies and it has become the industry default standard ?

Does Godaddy and 1and1 use Cpanel?

    cPanel is a web hosting control panel that provides tools designed to simplify the process of hosting a web site.

    GoDaddy does use their own control panel (Plesk), which is kind of quirky to work with, but I would just recommend that you download your own FTP client so that you do not have to use their Cpanel.

    1and1 doesn't offer CPanel, However they do greet you with their own proprietary Control Panel which is surprisingly powerful.

    If I had to choose (in my opinion) I would definately go with hostgator. Cpanel is very user friendly and they offer tons of free video tutorials on how to and also free immediate online help.

    I always choose hosts with cpanel because is a lot easier to change hosts (just download the cpanel backup). Arvixe, Site5 and Hostdime would be a few more I would recommend that use cpanel.
