Any use for a short dot com domain ?

How can I put to use a short dot com domain. I was thinking about building a url shortener, given that, hypothetically, people are more inclined on clicking/visiting a dot com site than some other extension ?

Any other ideas, (beside selling it)

      thanks for the reply sirtiman

could you elaborate on your answer, I'm not sure I understand how the domain could be leveraged in fiverr or zeerk.

      Many thanks

Can't say if it is a good idea without knowing how short the domain is, besides, URL shorteners are difficult to monetize.

yes I'm aware of the lack of clear business case for url shorteners, but I can't think of anything else.

PS: It has just come to my attention that I cannot pm people due to my low post count so I'll gladly take other peoples' pm but make sure I can reply to you by email

Don't know what the domain is, but some short domains are valuable. Can't tell really without knowing the domain name.

I won't post the name here but I may want to share via pm/mail

Any generic ideas that do not require you guys to know what the domain is ? Beside url shortener ?

    • With the information given it's only possible to point out that you have the same option as anyone else: branding your domain.

Besides, if I had a really good idea for a short dot com domain, I'd buy a short dot com domain and implement it myself.

        yes, that's the obvious,

but there may be some ways that I do not know about where a short dot com is useful. SMS advertising or something (?)

Okay, it's a 1 letter IDN domain name which in normal form is a 7 letter domain with two -- (hyphens) contained within it side by side. The letters do not make up any known word.

The OP just emailed this to me.

Frankly, I've got no idea of the value of IDN domain names so defer to someone else with more knowledge than I have upon the subject and their use.

          Best,

Depends on what the domain is. if its HQZL.com, it's not quite as valuable as GOLD.com - what's the secret anyway, if you already own it, it's not like someone could steal your idea. Giving us the name can only help us help you.

What do you get when you run it through Google Adwords Kw tool? Are there any prefixes, suffixes or add-ons that make sense? Can you think of sub domains that would convert it to something useful? When you Google it are there companies with those initials? Or on the stock exchange maybe?

Based on Mark Andrews' explanation, I would struggle to think of any use for it in the context of what you're hoping for.

What I mean by this, is, it sounds like you're fishing for a really innovative and highly lucrative website to build on it, similar to the success of other huge web corps.

If it's truly using hyphens, it would have much sell value, let alone use value. If it's also a IDN, even less so. AND if it doesn't even make a word, let alone a jibberish word, then I recommend letting it expire (or try selling it... you'd need a damn good sales pitch though).
