A little research goes a LONG way!!!

My story......

A few days ago, I purchased a product in the IM field for $19.95, I read the info, watched the videos they were less then stellar. In fact, they offer very little value if not zero value, I really didn't learn anything from them that I didn't already know.

Along with this product came a special bonus..... a 1/2 free consultation that he usual charges $2,000 for. So I set up the phone consultation, and got prepared for the chat (pen and paper, wrote down a few question, etc).

During the phone conversation, I tied to ask a few question but quickly learned answering my questions would give away his secrets and defeat the purpose of his final sales pitch. So I became quite and listened to the rest of his script as he continued to build up to the big sales pitch.

So what was I offered?

It was actually 3 things
1. The complete video set, showing the exact blue print of how everything is done.
2. Email support
3. A group phone conversation that happens once a week.

Now usually this cost $13,000 but because I am low on cash, he is going to offer it to me for $2,900. This would be for 3 months of email support and the once a week group phone conversation.

Some weird stuff, first, I asked if I could pay backend, meaning, hey, if this stuff really works, I will have no problem paying you once I am making this great income you claim. He told me it wouldn't be fair to a "couple" he has on his testimonial video, as they paid $13,000. Well than it wouldn't be fair of me to be paying $2,900 up front then would it?

Anyway, I told him I would think it over for a day.

So, after doing a little research, this is what I found out:

He sells the video course for around $67 (he forgot to mention this little tidbit)

The "couples" testimonial is also on the video course sales page. So did they pay the $67 for the video course or did they spend $13,000? Which is it? I am confused???

So just after a few minutes of research this is what I am thinking for the 3 piece $2900 offer:

1. The video course is only $67
2. Email support (lets say it takes him 1/2 per week, to answer my emails) I rarely ask questions, unless I am really really truly stuck, and can't find the answers anywhere (school taught me that little trick )
3. Group phone calls that happen weekly whether I sign up or not.

So $2900 - video course $67 = $2833

What the heck was I paying $2833 for? The email support?

    Hi Jam,

Given that you were not impressed with his original offering and the $2k consultation call was just another sales pitch I'd steer clear. At best this is questionable marketing. The FTC guidelines state that for him to claim that he earns 2k a call that he must be able to substantiate it.

Also if he says it usually costs $13k that he can also support this. It looks like from the evidence that he can't.

If I was in your shoes I'd run a mile!

My advice - join the Warroom for $37 and look over the free offers and advice there. Then select a few WSO's that fit whatever you're trying to do (build a list or Artcile markeing or offline consulting etc).

You'll not only save a fortune but probably get a better IM education that his $13k product (Obviously IMHO as I haven't seen his stuff)

    Good Luck!

Hope you haven't given him any more money. I would steer clear of this offer. You weren't impressed with his first product. Why would you be any more impressed with anything else he has to offer?

    Let's put it this way...

Get a refund on the $19.95 and run the other way. My guess is that he used the $19.95 credit card charge to run a credit check and find out that $2900 is about as much as he was likely to get approved.

      I actually did two things:

      1. Before I learned that his videos where selling for $67, I made him an offer, to take me in as his protege, teach me everything, once I am making the minimum of 5k per month, I would start paying him 1000 per month for 13 months, hell, if his system really works, I have no problem paying him the full amount and as he says "it's only fair to the couple that paid full price".

      Result = I never received a response.

      2. This afternoon after finding all this stuff out, I requested a refund, in which he did respond, and said they would process the refund. Still waiting on the refund though

Experience tells me that there are always two sides to every story. I don't know who you are talking about, but at least the guy gave you a refund. When I have been scammed in the past, as I am sure many people here have been more than once, they generally run away with the money. And, even if you win your Paypal dispute - and I have never lost one - that does not guarantee you will get your money back.

Yes and no. The original $19.95 product had a 60 day no questions asked money back guarantee, even if I didn't get that back, that's no big deal. It's the $2900 that I was worried about, as this was an over the phone deal, that I am sure wasn't covered by any sort of guarantee.

I am sure this guy is looking for the bigger pay check.... if anything

Now, what would you say if this was in your own backyard?

    Maybe even a WSO

So the supposed scammer refunded your money? Doesn't sound like he scammed you.

Just because he won't give you his valuable info for free doesn't mean he is a scammer. And the last time I checked you are allowed to charge whatever you want for mentoring you even if the mentoring is done by email.

Ok maybe he did a lousy job of building trust but I don't see any evidence of scamming going on.

Never said straight out he was or wasn't a scammer. But if you look at the big picture, lets say 100 people sign up for your $19.95 per month.

That's $1995 a month, hey that's not a bad living, but wait, lets say out of those 100 people 10% of them move onto stage 2.

That's $2900 x 3months x 10 people = Now all the sudden we are looking at a 10, 000 a month deal, will little to no contact from the owner.

But ofcourse you can buy his video course for $67 anytime, but he just never tells you about it.

        You figure it out

As a newbie, I get so frustrated with people like that. There are so many good, legitimate, helpful things you can do online and make money - why be a con artist?

Anyway - I have put my money into legitimate training (thank goodness).
