It's up to you obviously. If you really don't want your home address try getting a registered office - although that maybe similar prices to a p.o box.

My accountant allows me to use his address as my registered address so I don't pay any extra.

I have another question. Honestly, if I were to put a random address will the people behind the CANSPAM Act come and track me down somehow lol?

If you are worried about CANSPAM and your safety if using a real address, something tells me you shouldn't do whatever you're thinking about doing.. lol

I agree with Whos that Guru. You shouldn't have any problems if you are offering a good product/service.

Please don't worry about the "crazy people in this world", kytro360. Using your physical address in emails is perfectly fine, and the chances of there ever being a crazy person on your list are so small, it's not even worthy of your time worrying about it.

Think of the positive things you'll be doing for people on your list, and don't think of the negatives, since they will only hold you back.

PS: if a crazy person really wanted to get hold of your address, they'd probably start by asking you for tips on how to get their ex back, lol. ;D

Well I don't know about you, but it doesn't bother me one bit.

Doctrine laws protect you (or at least in this state) from being prosecuted for murder if you have to use deadly force to protect yourself, your property or your loved ones from harm.

And I fully embrace my right to bear arms.. so yeah, let them come and try to find me.. lol

That being said, you should do the same if it is something you are really concerned about. As long as you don't have a felony you can get a shotgun or rifle at age 18, and you can get a pistol at age 21.

If you get a pistol, get a GLOCK.

You hope you never have to use it, but if you DO have to, it needs to work.

    Oh.

LOL for some reason I always assume people are at least 18 when it comes to this business. Not sure why it surprises me though.. hahaha

Well in that case, let your parents handle it. I'm sure they feel the same way that I do about it.

D: Meh. Not exactly the response I was looking for but I guess you're right.

Also, about me faking my address. In all honesty what are the chances of them finding out its fake?

They have their ways, for example Aweber will actually send you a welcome letter through the post. Sounds harmless, but this is actually a way to verify the address you have given.

Its not worth it to jeopardize your business on something so minor. I can bet if you asked everyone on the forum if they've ever had any negatives from using their real address 99% will tell you no.

Its really not that hard to find out its fake. Especially not for a government agency that REALLY wants to find out. lol if you aren't careful you might get a .gov email on that list, and then the walls come crashing down :O

hahahaha no I'm just messing with you now.

But to be serious, it probably isnt hard to see if an address is legit or not.

@PAFoster True, I am probably thinking way too negative and with too many what/ifs. The benefits truly outweight the cons.

So from what I gather, its perfectly safe to put a valid home address on emails?

    lol yes. it is fine.

as long as you aren't breaking any laws, you have nothing to worry about.

i just get bored from time to time and its a bit amusing to mess with people every now and again. nothing personal.

If they're not sending me money, and I'm worried about them tracking me down, I just use the local FBI office for the address. I got the idea from Elaine on the Jerry Seinfeld show where she always used a local business to brush off aggressive men.

I've used my home address for years. I did worry at first, but after awhile I totally forgot it was on my sites.

I definitely wouldn't put my HOME address. My advice would be to use an office address, or register a UPS Box which gives you an actual street address instead of a P.O. box.

    I use a PO Box.

In terms of "how would anybody find out I was using a fake address?"

Well you just asked a question about this very same thing, in a very public forum, on a very public internet. Just saying.

Somewhere out there, some creep is trolling this thread right now clicking on everyone's links who said they use their real home address. Just hope they don't live in your town or have traveling money to burn. haha

For most people, it's safe to use their real address.

If you don't want to use your real address, then use a
P.O. Box (or similar) - that's what they're there for.

As you've stated that you can't afford a P.O. box at the
moment, then use your real address.

Do NOT use a fake one.

Do you really want to start off your e-mail marketing
by telling people what you know to be a blatant LIE?

If you're prepared to LIE about your address in your
e-mails, then I'd wonder what else you're prepared
      to tell lies about.

Start off on the right foot and be up-front with your
subscribers and comply with CAN-Spam too.

      Dedicated to mutual success,
