How many websites do you own?

Just out of curiosity i thought i would be interesting to find out how many websites you experienced warriors are running as a rough guide as to how many sites and amount of work it takes to make a shot at earning some descent income.
I know some of you have offline income and some have great success with very few sites while others make a good living from running hundreds of small sites.. adsence, amazon and squeeze pages etc, so its very varied, but i reckon a poll will give a good indication of the average marketers work load.
I started getting interested in i.m about 3 years ago and about 1 year ago came across the strategy of building many small change adsence niche sites quickly, i decided to give this a go and aim for about 50 sites, but then got sidetracked and started adding amazon stores, click bank offers and email forms to my sites, then i built an amazon review site and so i have hardly got off the starting block, so many distractions so much to do and learn, the usual story.
So now i have ended up building only 5 sites and have just bought another 5.
I still aim to build those 50 sites one day!

By the way sometime back i naively posted a nosy question asking on how much each warrior earns in their i.m endeavors and nearly got my head bitten off (maybe rightly so).
Anyway i don't think this question is as sensitive is it? if it is to some of you guys apologies in advance, just don't bite my head off, simply.. DON'T ANSWER IT!:p

P.S... I originally tried to set up a poll with this post, unfortunately the computer crashed at that moment, anyway finally set it up, apologies and thanks to everyone who has contributed.

I've got around 50 sites. Thinking about downsizing a bit to focus on the sites that are doing better. Some of them are just project ideas that I never really implemented, so it's probably better just to get rid of them and make room for new projects.

      Outsource, outsource, outsource!

And if you can't justify outsourcing, even laying down a short-term investment in outsourcing, then by your own assessment the website isn't profitable.

So in this scenario, sell, sell, sell!! Bring that number down to an easy 10 to 30. If they're decent websites you're selling, you should bring in $40 to $100 each in sales on Flippa.com - that's 70 sites x $70 each, which is a $4,900 return you can use to invest in the other websites!

I had to go to my hosting panel to double check this lol...

12 websites in one niche generating 100% passive income (hundreds a month)

3 e-commerce stores in vastly different niches; earning significant amounts (thousands+)

2 of my main business websites, obviously the bread winning sites (several thousands)

5 other websites in varying niches generating significant adsense

    around 10 unused sites

and 30 or so client websites paying $10 to $100 each for managed hosting.

    So, 62 websites total.

Maybe 10-15 domains I bought blindly, and will dump b4 renewal!
Roughly 20 live sites - adding content daily

Started off with -0- experience 7 months ago,
and things are definitely taking shape.

The game plan is to have 2 main authority sites, and 75-100 niche sites up and earning an average of $100 each per month by March-April 2012. Then, I can start outsourcing some of the work, and relax some....maybe.

No ... it's not at all sensitive. I have enough sites that I stopped counting them some time ago. I was up to around 200 but have cut back to around 100.

Of course, some of those are merely demo sites for the sites I sell, but even with those, I've added Adsense and Amazon stores, etc. so they can earn passive income as well as being a demo site.

I know what you mean about getting sidetracked though. I've tried just launching quick, thin sites but always go back and add to them. I don't think that can hurt you in the long run. It's additional ways to make money from each site.

I have about 150 domain-names (I buy and sell them a little) but only about 50 websites of my own. And at the moment only 8 of those are "proper money sites that require regular updating", and I update those only once a week each ... so it isn't quite as "full-time" as the numbers suggest.

        3. site for my transcription and other limited VA services
        4. brand new PLR site

        6. site for my husband's butcher supplies and deer hunting info
        7. hockey site that's just kind of sitting at the moment. It was listed on flippa and didn't sell so I'm working on backlinks and more content so maybe it'll start generating more than just a few cents here and there with AdSense and an affiliate
        8. site in the real estate industry that I haven't had time to do much with yet; depends on my husband's focus for what he's doing with the business.
        9. domain with one sales page for my crafts book; I'm going to let that expire and move my crafts ebooks over to the PLR site

We all have to start somewhere, when i finally got my first site up and running it took me about 1 year of research, tweaking, installing useless plugins, perfecting, hesitating and general time wasting and I'm sill not totally happy with it, it no good trying to be a perfectest in this game.
It was then another six moths before i got another site up.
Also some people make a nice living of just one site.
So don't get discouraged, keep up the good work.

I imagine you have been doing this a long time, one of the questions i should have asked originally, i think that could be another good idea for a poll.
      Respect.

Another perfectionist, its so difficult trying not to keep tweaking things.
I need to be able to set a site up, tweak a LITTLE and leave it be to move on to the next one, also I'm not 100% sure adding distractions to my adsence sites like stores and ebooks are such a good thing.

I always try to make sure my sites are useful and not just rehashed junk so i always write some content myself, however some of my sites do use auto content and this can be hit and miss, but the idea is to save time and concentrate on building new sites, but as i said i keep going back a tweaking things to make the sites better and more relevant so this could be holding me back.
Its a tough balancing act i guess.

Anyway thanks to everyone contributing, keep it coming its really fascinating to see all theses figures coming in, reading your comments and stories and to the people who have over 500 sites up (REALLY)

I have about 120 sites, and here is a general breakdown:
    1. About 25 relate to products I sell
    2. About 20 relate to a niche (unrelated to my products) and they make significant adsense and other advertising income
    3. About 15 are forums started years ago outside the niche in #2. They make enough in asense to exist, but not much beyond that.
    4. About 10 are customer sites that I manage
    5. About 20 are micro niche type sites.
    6. And the rest are domains I want to hold, and just haven't done anything with yet (wedding-forums.com comes to mind)

I own 50 .com domains and about 10 .co.uk's. Every domain I'm not using has got my own designed adsense page thats is promoting the domain for sale too. I have two live income generating websites, one of them has only just started earning an Adsense income of about $2.00 per week with only one article and its had a PR3 score for a couple of months now so I'm going to start adding more content every day to that site. The other site earns me about $50 per week. Other than that I'm currently working on three different websites, each offering a free online service with plenty of ads in key spots.
By all accounts, if I keep putting the same level of energy into my online work, 2012 should hopefully start turning things around and I might get close to giving up my day job. Fingers crossed. I just bought some pretty good domains so I'm fairly optimistic.

Oh yeah, I've also got an Adsense income and an Amazon income from UNKNOWN sources. Honestly, I've got Adsense channels that earn a small but consistant income and I've no idea where the ads are placed. The same with Amazon, I must earn about $30 per month from Amazon and I have no idea where its come from. My guess its from long forgotton articles I've written on places like HubPages and long forgotton Blogger blogs etc etc.

I actually started moving in to domaining a few years ago, but after I learned marketing I knew I had to develop them while waiting for users to buy domains. I have actually developed a streamlined system to maintain over 400 blogs in ONE Wordpress installation. Thank god, because just maintaining 10 or 20 before was a pane in the Arsh!

My tally is 400 Auto-Blogs and a few Product sites, thankfully only 25 niches. I wouldn't recommend ANYONe buy more 100 domains, unless its in a niche of passion, because your content will end up becoming very Unvaluable from undifferentiated content.

Mass developers, I can tell you this much, that while all these Affiliate offers are great or Adsense is a good start. I love the fact that being an Amazon Affilate gets you paid NO MATTER what they order. SO if you send them to the site via a Dog treats link, if they buy a blender you will get commission!

Word of Warning: I JUST got burnt by Commission Junction from probably the AUTOBlogging tool. The tool was supposed to create links on offers I was approved for at CJ. And guess what it didn't! So 5000 links to CJ where I won't get paid a penny! (cause I wasn't approved by the vendor to sell it) UGGH

I have about 4 or 5 domains with only a couple of them making money.I have content written for close to a hundred sites though. Just have to find time away from my J O B to do the correct keyword research on them, buy the correct domains and then market them. I have some great niches in mind that should bring in some great income. its just a matter of finding enough time to work on them.

Its amazing how slowly my day goes by at my boring day job at a metal shop making barely over minimum wage but yet when i am off on the weekends, i shut myself in my room and write content for two days straight and the time flys by. I acually look forward to being able to quit my day job so i can spend more time on IM.

Between IM and my day job I dont have much of a social life right now but i have learned a lot since the begginning of this year which is when i first started getting my toes wet learning about IM and while I have not made a substantial amount of money yet ( i have made a little) i feel that i will be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel very soon.

I have made a lot of mistakes along the way but I have learned a lot from each and every one. I have an enormous amount of drive to make this work. The fact i hate my job and dread going everyday is a big part of it. I am determined for this to happen. I hope to be able to quit my job by the end of 2012

This question has come up a lot and seems to be a perennial favorite. I have over 500, at one time over 2,500. They are arranged in a pyramid in levels where the higher you go on the pyramid, the better the content quality is on the site. Lowest level with the most sites is simple autoblogging stuff, seo fodder. Link juice is funneled up to the top with a handful of very successful authority sites at the top where all the money is generated.

Work harder and harder to own more websites? (Not so much an ambition for me - I already own too many). Or to build a bigger/better/more stable business with fewer? (I can see many potential advantages of that) ...

Very interesting thread, it must be said. I'm slightly surprised that some participants seem almost silently to be assuming that "the more websites you own, the better" - not really a perspective I share, myself.

I do see that there are some advantages (diversification, risk-spreading, and so on) but there are clearly many disadvantages, too - perhaps especially for people whose businesses are Google-dependent - and I don't for a moment imagine that "owning more websites" is, in itself, a corollary to "making more money" ...

I just topped 100+ with building micro-sites lately. But it really is not how many you have. I have 1 site only that averages what I consider a lot per week, if I had 10 more of them I would sell the others, lol.

    I have over 100 sites
5 of them are personal sites
About 20 of them are just domains that I purchased and need to have content and SEO work done to them.
The rest of them are adsense sites which have content on and SEO work done which are earning for me or are ready to flip. I tend to flip around 1 per week on Flippa.
