How would you invest 10k?

Hello Everyone,

I am quite new to this site, and I have been reading a lot about investing in a website, from flippa.com. So here is my story:

I have some spare money (10k) and would like to invest in something: real estate or online. I already have money invested in mutual funds, so i'm looking for something different. I don't have much experience with websites, I know basic HTML and CSS, but that is about it -- so I wouldn't be able to refurbish any website drastically.

So my question for you is, what would you do with 10k?

First thing I would do is invest in a thread title edit. Every one and their money grubbing dog can see that you have 10k. Prepare for a PM inbox full to the top... containing a ton of messages you can't reply to yet, but still... annoying.

Then I would find a method of income generation. Product creation, affiliate marketing, adsense, CPM ads, etc.

Once you find something that you are comfortable with, or can at least outsource with some degree of knowledge, then jump in and go from there. A XXk budget means quite a bit of resources for creating a product for a desperate market.

    That is my advice.

I am no expert but what ever you do research about what your about to do any to make sure you know what coming and your not surprised when a message comes or something. Better to look in to it a lot then kick your self after wishing you had done more research. You probly already knew that all ready...

  • Outsource the following for a blog:

Buy Domain $10 per year (for blogger)
Articles $5 per (one per day)
    Website Design $300-$500
    Product Graphics $300
    Product Pitch $300
    Product Development and Videos $500-$1000
Advertise on other blogs $200 per month

Probably would be the extent of my money, and the rest would be used for PPC and getting on email lists.

If you can outsource everything will be cheapest, but it will take abit of time and effort. Also, you can outsource website building to some of the service providers, such as micro niche website builders. The returns can be quite high.

The problem is that if you don't know WTF you are doing you are unlikely to be able to invest that $10k without losing it. I guess you could consider it tuition.

It really depends on my goals. For things like real estate, 10K won't do too much unless you do creative real estate deals, then that money will go a long way. For simple things like being an online affiliate, then I'd gradually invest that money in driving traffic and optimizing my offers.

    What's your goals?

What about website that automatically generates revenue? Is there such thing?

Also, I am still a senior in college (all tuition is paid off), I don't need tuition paid for. This is just side money from my engineering jobs.

Sites can be a great way to earn recurring income. As for Flippa, I hear it's a great way for webmasters to make easy money if they have a well built site. But then again, websites really arent my thing either, so I put in my time and energy in other projects. For the most part, I'd invest my funds in something that will work as opposed to something that may work.

Sure, but that will take up a lot of your time at least at first, then it's a matter of outsourcing specific items to keep it running. There's different ways of getting recurring revenue coming in, but a lot of them requires some aspect of work still. You would be a bit hard pressed to find something that you just buy and from day 1 you're making money, I mean you could buy established websites but you really have to be careful from who you buy from.

Yes, there is such a thing. What you have to realize, though, is that a website which automatically generates revenue usually requires quite a bit of work to set up. And even then, it's never really "automatic" - anything which is not managed and tweaked over time will eventually lose steam and die off.

Also, I know you have some money to play with, but don't get caught up in the many "shiny objects" of internet marketing (all of the various products and systems up for sale) - focus on basic principles. You need at least one website, which will be your "home" on the internet. You need traffic to that website from interested visitors. And you need a way to monetize that traffic, be it affiliate sales, PPC ads, selling advertising space, or list building.

Those are the bedrock principles of making money on the internet. It doesn't have to be complicated, and all of it can easily be outsourced. But spend your money carefully.

I can't imagine why you would consider investing 10k in something you know nothing about to begin with. Aside from that, if you're willing to do some research you can learn almost everything you need to learn about IM free online. It's not a matter of money. It's a matter of learning which end is up--and that can be learned for free. --Mike

If you study enough, like 3-4 months worth and just devour the right information, then you can easily turn that $10k into $100k in a matter of months with an effective direct mail campaign.

You could even apply this direct mail to striking deals with local businesses. You just have to learn how to bring in the big fish and keep them

Is depend what you want to do with it.
10k can be small invest and can be big invest,

    My ideas Is
buy some good stuff ( second hand ) and sale it again, make your money grow from 10 K to 100 K

    example:

My friend did this , he bought watches from ebay second hand with popular brands with $1200 and he sold for $2900, Now he crazy looking for second hand watches to sale it again on ebay.
10K is good enough to start, you dont have to do the same as watch but you can do anything!

That is sample ideas instead online business. hope give you ideas.

The Value of Ideas more highest then money

If I were going to invest 10k into an online marketing venture, this is what I would do:

Find a programmer to build a piece of software that the internet marketing community needs. Trust me, there are thousands of options with this one, it is up to you to do your due diligence in finding what the community will go "ga-ga" over.

Hire a webmaster to build your site for you, including sales pages, opt in forms, and linking up payment processors and autoresponder forms.

Make a video showing what your new software can do to help everyone and their mother ... use this for your opt in page.

And invest the rest in traffic, including (but not limited to) getting jv partners to promote this puppy for you. Once you have this all set up, you are pretty much set for life after it launches and you have built a huge email subscriber base...you can do launch after launch and be in profit, or just do affiliate marketing for cash on a weekly basis with this subscriber list.

      Best of luck to you,
      Matthew

While I think the 'concept' is great, I believe you'll have a hard time finding a programmer for $5k -$10K, let alone do all the rest.

I scouted for a programmer for an 'idea' I had that included a complex multi-tier payout structure, and got laughed at when mentioning I had $5k - $7k to get started.

Might be hard to believe, but those guys pulling 7 figure launches with their 1-click software spend a hell of a lot more to launch their campaigns then $10K!

...And they know, 50% will refund!

Just my thoughts on that route.

*Although, the iFart app was an example of how a simple idea, could reach 7 figures with a smaller payout!

Definitely would agree with the above. I certainly wouldn't make a habit of announcing $XX,XXX is up for grabs... that's like throwing a bloody goldfish into a piranha tank.

I mean you could take any of the instructions above, and maybe succeed online.

However, I would tread with caution for a bit, learn the basics, figure out who's who? -those who are actually here to stay? -vs- those who'll grub your money, and be gone tomorrow?

More importantly, learn who's actually making sustainable income? and How?

    *I'm in that process now.

Then, if I were to do anything it would be jump start 25-50 'high demand' niche sites... there are at least (2) specific Warriors who I know of that do excellent work and have been around here awhile offering some nice pre-templated niche sites. *Some are already partially monetized for easy tweaking... and you can get into some niche sites fairly inexpensively.

Thus, you spread it out and target the evergreen market items (i.e. weight loss, dating, babies, puppies, dollies, etc...)

Once you have them up and running, focus on writing (or hiring writers) to produce quality... relevant content for article syndication, and start getting your links out their in front of a massive targeted audience. Build a HUGE subscriber list first and foremost!

Build relationships through email, and set-up several marketing funnels on auto-pilot...

At which time, you should still have 3/4 of your money, be generating revenue consistently, and can afford to start creating product, keep ramping up the traffic, and have enough data and split testing done to really scale up operations with some partners, product creation, and proceed to building an affiliate army of 'pushers' moving your goods....

Sounds great on paper, but in reality, I have been busting my hump for 7 months, and might be about 1/3 of the way there...

...And I left out a good portion of the tools, resources, unforeseen bs, and the massive learning curve... So, I'm NOT sure that money trumps knowledge here, but I'd venture into learning IM before spending it for sure!

    All the Best,

    Art

I think that if you don't know what to do with 10K and you're asking in a public forum what to do with 10K, you're inviting tons of pms from people shilling their products.

I would only invest 10K if I had a clear, well thought out plan in place to get a return on my investment.

You can buy sites from Flippa, but be aware that there are a lot of scammers on Flippa who sell sites with income claims that are "proven" with fake screenshots and traffic claims that are equally dubious.

You have to have good instincts and know what to look for when buying "revenue bearing" sites on Flippa.

Investing $10,000 when you are a "newbie" is a waste in my opinion.

Don't just toss out your money, save it. Learn with free methods first and get a hang of what's going on.

You are definitely going to end up wasting your money on useless junk if you just toss it out now, so be realistic.

I'll echo what most other people are saying: invest the minimum until you know what you're doing.

I'd open an high-interest savings account and put $9500 in there. Use the rest to learn and get your first venture going. Just an example of how you can do this on the cheap:

        - got to Amazon and buy an internet marketing book for $20 (there's an All-In-One Dummies book)
        - study that ******* until you've got an idea of how things work
        - buy a WSO that sounds interesting ($10-$50)
        - lock yourself in your room, set up LeechBlock, and only pay attention to what you need
        - domain and hosting = around $60/year. You can also outsource a decent looking site for $150-$300.
-work that system until you've got income

It's possible to do all of that for under $100. When it comes to business, money does not guarantee success.

Heed the warnings of Shiny Object Syndrome (jumping from one thing to another). That will slurp up your $10,000 in no time.

    Hosting and website (nominal cost).

Invest in top notch, extensively researched articles by grad students in a particular niche (health would probably be best). $4K at $25 per article would put together 160 killer articles for website. Publish over 6 months.

    Invest in backlinking.

    Invest in an autoresponder.

Invest in same writers to write a killer product.

Invest in software/network for affiliate program for product.

Balance invested into driving traffic - perhaps Directory of Articles, guest post articles, Facebook (if relevant), Adwords, graphic design for banners for affiliate program.

My advice for you is not to go for product creation without market research, what ever your niche may be.

You will find tons of traffic in a niche. But You also need to find whether they would be interested in buying any thing. More importantly what is their problem that they would pay to get solved. These are serious questions you have to find answers before product creation.

Fortunately it is possible to find answers for these Question today. But I have realized this after 2 years in IM and after spending thousands. Please choose the right path before you embark.

I would invest in PR 3-5 domains... internet marketing is becoming more and more like the game of Monopoly. Why try to get links from other web properties (rent) when you can own your own properties (Boardwalk!)?

I would be careful with Flippa.com. With the ability to purchase traffic, show false paypal accounts.. you really need to do your due diligence. I prefer buying aged domains = sites with authority and backlinks, I'm more worried about off-page SEO value than any on-page value

Do what you feel comfortable with at first. Testing what makes you feel uneasy can open you up to some surprising ROI's, but to initiate your endeavors into IM then I'd find what works first. Do you enjoy statistics, planning, and test? Then go with the grind mode of paid traffic. Hunt your demographics and keywords and test the marketing principles. There is tons of information, along with common sense of day-to-day buyers (which you are), that can bring you your first profitable $1. If you'd rather crank the website/seo game, which can be more predictable in the long run due to your knowledge of your user-base, then take the long route. $10k is enough to find a profitable campaign. Then again, $10k is enough to launch a few to scale decently for at least your first pay period. Of course, I'm speaking on affiliate CPL/CPS campaigns. This being the case, you should be able to receive good pay terms and even fronts (depending on who you're working with).

Learning is knowledge. Acting is actionable.

save your 10k and do the following

    1) find a system that works.

    2) Use free traffic to see if it is converting.

    3) Have proper sales funnels and backends in place to make more money and increase profits.

    4) Test different offers to see which one coverts the best.

Once you find the winner....use your money on PPC small scale and see if you can turn a profit.

    1) Test small scale on the main PPC engine, yahoo, google, msn.

    2) Track everything like a hound dog. See which keywords are converting on your smaller scale test, and then record it.

    3) see if you can beat those results.

    4) once you are turning profits, roll it out big time, and make more profits.

We have done this several times within a few niches and it works well. Our budget was around $300 starting. But you can do this with way less. Do not spend all your 10k at once. Find something that works or a product that converts and then roll out the big PPC guns, if ya know what I mean.

I would be very careful here. I would lower your targets, and maybe spend a few hundred on something you find interesting, whether it be a website or training program. You'll learn a lot by diving in and then refining your targets for something bigger later once you have a feel for what you like and what works for you. Ask lots of people on lots of forums. Try and find someone you can trust who is doing something similar.

    Hi;

What is your experience managing / building a website?
    internet marketing in general?
This info is needed to give a good answer.

There is NO point purchasing a site ; if your experience level is not up to the level needed to maintain, build or in most cases "fix" the issues with the current site / system to get it profitable again.

Better off spending 10k on 5 , 2K foreclosure houses IF you have more experience with home repairs ; than internet marketing...

But if you want to take the plunge then please reply back... expect to spend 50-100 hrs learning internet marketing ; depending on your level now.

I would start some paid media campaigns and start off slowly until I was consistently breaking even on the front end offer of the advertising, and then essentially getting free leads to send onto higher ticket products.

And then to do a large roll out of those tested campaigns with a larger chunk of that money to really scale things up.

Don't start invest the 10k, you will loose money.

It's very easy to loose money, earn moeny it is much harder.

Its very tempting to invest fast to see high profits, but the odds are against you..

Your first goal is to be profitable, never having a negative month, never!
When you have a way to earn more money then invest more.

My story is that I started spending at the start, let say the first 8 months all were negative. because I scalled up a system that is not working.

my last 4 months are positive, and now I focusing agian to scale this up, because I have system that is working, and I am regreting inevsting so much in the begining..

I say if you are new to network marketing, than I recommend only starting with $100 on a domain and a place to build a website. Find a free affiliate product and promote it through blogging, forums, and youtube. once you are familiar with this strategy, than I recommend you to start using paid advertising once you are more familiar with network marketing before blowing all your money.
