How important is UPTIME to you?

How important is to you that your site is available to your visitors at all times, without going down at all (or very, very rarely)?

Any of you pay for a service from a third party (not your webhost) that ensures you 100% uptime (or at least, very close to 100%)?

How much do you pay, (or would you pay) per month for something like that?

Thanks.

I wouldn't pay anything for it. I use Hostgator and have never had a problem with down time.

I do not pay. I just rely on every day trafffic. All i did is promote it by blog commenting and joining forum as of now.

No, I wouldn't pay extra for it.

I pay for hosting (at HostGator, TypePad, Weebly and Heart Internet) and I expect - and get - very close to 100% up-time from all of them: it's part of what they're selling.

Aside that there is no 100% guarantee, the todays cloud technology is getting as close as 99.999999%

However as above members mentioned, no I would not pay extra for something that should be expected from a datacenter provider, if a datacenter fails to deliver a reasonable uptime of their servers i'd simply switch to a better one rather then spend extra money on a company that is unable to provide me with quality service.

    Hi!

Hostgator has a great uptime. It is important, if you use PPC and people start clicking on your $2 clicks and you can end up with 500 clicks and no sales due to the website downtime.

If I can't believe my webhost for uptime, I won't believe any third party service either.

Besides, in my opinion, no third party service can provide 100% uptime without an asterisk. There's a reason why the biggest webhosts guarantee (only?) 99.9% uptime.

    Uptime is critical.

You're not going to make anything if your site is throwing 404 errors.

Hostgator does provide a great service. It would be better with alerts and reporting though.

Uptime is extremely important to me, if my sites are down so is my income. I use hostgator and haven't had any issues. I'd say that they are pretty close to 100% uptime. I wouldn't pay any extra for it, and I really doubt and company could guarantee a 100% uptime.

Thank you for your replies. Maybe I was unclear - I did not mean that THE SAME hosting company would charge you extra for better uptime, but that you would have something like dns failover active which keeps your site up separate from your existing host.

I guess it's critically important but just not important enough to actually warrant a few bucks

I don't think I ever had problems with uptime. Is it possible to have that kind of problem?

Uptime is extremely important to me. I rely on my host which uses LiteSpeed and as such my sites rarely have any downtime now.

I would not pay anything extra to guarantee uptime. If my web host doesn't deliver, I simply switch. It's as simple as that.
