How important is a Facebook Fan Page?

Is anyone getting traffic off of this? Should it be one of the main things to focus on for an internet start up?

Alot of people are saying that article marketing is dying and so far that is my only real expertise. Now I'm looking for something with more juice..

And that's quite apart from the fact overlong names mess with the formatting of your post.

Or at least spell morbidly right.

To answer your question... yes people are getting traffic from Facebook. There are 800 million people on Facebook, and quite a few of them visit other sites from links posted on Facebook.

Whether it should be your "main focus" is another story though, and impossible to know without knowing the nature of your business.

Other than Traffic & SEO purpose and engaging with customer to be, I don't find any need for fanpage

Consider that I made $60 the other day with a fan page of only 300 related to a niche (not internet marketing).

Then tell me what you think

Traffic is great, seo is great, but Facebook can easily be used to generate sales on affiliate, cpa, and personal products.

  • will start working on the fanpage right now. I just don't understand how fan pages will bring people to your site, I heard that google is starting to factor in likes in calculating search engine ranking. That would answer my question but is that even true? I've never seen fan pages on the number 1 of any listing.

You have to treat your fan page like a community. Interact with them, post useful information, and occasionally a relevant link to your site. Don't just cram self-promotional links down their throats, or you won't have any success with it at all. Don't even worry about Google in this equation. Focus on building up your fan page fan base and focus on engaging your community. Then, drive them to your site.

The Facebook Fan page itself won't rank high in Google
or major search engines. However there is speculation
that your website may rank higher in the future with
likes from Facebook if you have the FB like widget on it.

This is conjectured from the reports FB is rumored to share
this info with Bing similar to how it is obvious Google is
taking into consideration comments or reviews on businesses
from Yelp and Google places reviews in the geotargeting
    algorithms for local search.

I will be doing more fan pages and advertising on the ones I
have because they can drive traffic to your site. However,
according to Net IQ, com.Score, and other web metric
organizations it is actually Twitter which will drive more traffic
    to your site.

People click on Twitter links at 7 times the rate of Facebook
links I've read from a number of these sources. I believe these
reports because Facebook is so media rich, with the ability to
embed video and pictures, that it is harder to get people out of
the environment than twitter - which has less bells and whistles.

I've not heard this quoted as a statistic before now, but I believe it. I've had a suspicion that this was true and have been meaning to get more serious about twitter. I've put a lot of time and resources into facebook and I don't find that I get as much traffic from it as I would hope. I think some of my best days on facebook have brought around 400 people onto one of my sites.

I really need to make time to grow my twitter account.

That's incorrect (at least in my opinion ).

I have many fan pages that rank highly in the search engines for competitive terms.

I have over 80,000 fans on Facebook adding up my current used pages.

To give you an idea, I made over $100 today passively thanks to autoposting with a tool called HootSuite (that means I didn't even touch it).

And built a website on Monday that generated upwards of 3,000+ unique pageviews in less than 6 hours.

WOW! How did you get all these fans?

I've gotten about 3,700 fans this year, all very targeted, but it cost me about $800 in ads.

You spent $800 on 3,700 fans?

I've experimented with different ads and the lowest CPC I ever saw was .08, but most of the time it ran higher.

So your adding fans for less that .01 per fan total cost?

I agree on the manual part, to an extent.

You don't have to have posts that are talking about current events. For example, I could autopost a message right now and probably get tons of responses just by having something like:

Press "Like" if you <3 T-Shirts with puppies on them!

            or something of that nature.

When it comes to manually posting, that's usually only in regards to current information that is being released or I'm being notified about (I just signup to an RSS feed that I use to notify my pages about)

O.o CPC is your problem bro.

I would NEVER pay for clicks.

This of course is only opinionated, but as an example.

For the same amount of subscribers you got...

            (goes to fanpage)

            Here are my results:

            Expenses: $27.84

So that averages out to exactly $0.005, so half a penny per fan.

The trick is to pay for impressions and get a decent ad placement up. But even with a crappy ad, my costs are lower than $0.08 per click.

I bet if you manually posted those posts you'd see even better results. Using 3rd party tools to post to Facebook decreases the EdgeRank of your page, meaning the odds of it being seen in someone's feed decreases. Post from 3rd party apps tend to get grouped together in the feed, for example.

There have been a few studies done on this recently.

Does Using a 3rd Party API Decrease Your Engagement Per Post? | EdgeRank Checker

The result of our study was quite eye opening. Using a 3rd party API to update your Facebook Page decreases your likelihood of engagement per fan (on average) by about 80%.

I use whitelabel autoposting from HootSuite. i deifnitely agree with you on that, but in my experiences it's been very good to me. I do a lot of manual posts randomly, but never promotional. Most promotional to build traffic + leads + sales are done automatically.

But if I find something they'll have interest in, I go pop it in, and BOOM.

People if you are using your FB pages only for SEO purposes, FAIL.

Isn't the goal of SEO to get more interested people to your site? What is more interested than people 'liking' your page and staying on it?

Treat them like people; interact with them; listen to them and try to meet their needs. They will treat your posts like the voice of God.

I should say that this also applies to your list.

      Agreed.

But, it can also be used for SEO purposes on the fact that people may share your information on their own websites.

I know that I myself have found things on Facebook Social (that's what I call the regular Facebook profiles) and then posted a blog post about it directing a ton of traffic towards them and good backlinks.

Use Facebook for SEO, traffic, leads, sales, and of course always be realistic.
