I move at least 5 figures a month through paypal without issue, but two days ago I sold an old video game for $10 on ebay. Since this is my first sale through ebay, ebay is holding the funds until the item is received. Here's the fun part: paypal is now holding ALL funds for 21 days, regardless of where the money came from. This is NOT a hate Paypal thread; I just have 2 questions:

1. Anyone else dealt with this?
2. Can they legally do this based on their business? I thought they couldn't hold money longer than 10 days.

Thanks for your help!

    1. Yes, just wait. If the buyer leaves feedback sooner than that 21 days, the money can get released quicker.

    2. Sure, why not. They are looking out for the buyer. If you are new to ebay or have been inactive on an account for a very long time then you might get this. It is not a permanent thing and is not done with all types of auctions.

Paypal seems to not respect any laws, or maybe the laws can't do anything to prevent Paypal freeze your account with your money in it? I bet they are earning interests on your money.

PayPal is years ahead of what other institutions are doing at such a level. Most laws aren't applicable or by the time a motion is passed to do something in regards to PayPal funds, there wont be an outcome for years. If all countries reacted the way India did, PayPal would be a different kind of company.

Have you actually CALLED PayPal and spoke to a real person? Much of what PP does is automated and getting flesh and blood involved might resolve it quickly.

I second Steve Johnson above. When Paypal limited my account a while ago by mistake, I called them and they resolved it while I was on the phone with them.

Try calling them; I don't think it can hurt.

The rule with PayPal is to never leave money in there for those of us who get lazy and leave tens of thousands in there at times.

You were 'kind of' grandfathered in regarding the whole payments hold situation. When you sold something on eBay- especially in the video games/electronics category, it activated this whole payments hold thing. You might have some luck calling PayPal, but I probably wouldn't put money on the fact of this being resolved. If you go a uncertain time period without any disputes or holds, you should start receiving your money as you were before this incident.
