How do I market my ghostwriting site?

I’m so new here that my profile still has the price tag on, but I’m just going to jump right in. I know y'all hear questions similar to mine all the time, but bear with me. Remember that every one of you had to make your first few posts too at some point or another.

I am an internet writer. Not an internet marketer. So I don’t know the best way to market my ghostwriting website. I submitted it to search engines, but I know I’ll get lost in the shuffle. Adwords never really worked for me that well. Anyone have some creative advertising tips for me? I figured this would be the place to ask since the writing forums that I normally frequent are full of... well… writers.

Also! I understand about keywords and such. I read about putting "metadata" in your website code for the engine spiders to read. Is this effective or should the keywords just be in the text of my site? Kind of confused about all that too.

Any advice would be super helpful for me right about now.

TIA.

Wow, well Marianne has brilliantly answered the question for you in full, giving you some great options to get started.

Another thing that I will add to that is to go in search for the writing jobs. If you find a job that you think you are capable of offer to write say for example 1 article for free or a big discount. Once you have done the job get a testimonial from them. You can look for jobs on this forum and freelance sites.

In your signature why not try offering some free work to a few members so you can build up your testimonials too.

Word of mouth is pretty effective online so if you do a good job people will be sure to pass the information on.

I really wouldn't worry about trying to feature high in the search engines, adwords etc.

    All the best!

If you're looking to do big jobs then I think the most important question isn't how you can get them to your website, but rather, how you can get them on the phone so you can consult and sell them. I would go with a paid traffic source like ppc and funnel it to your squeeze page, then send follow up emails offering free telephone consultations, and use the phone to close big deals.

If we are talking about low end writing like article writing, then I would run an ad in the warriors for hire section of this forum and also join iwriter.com. You could also run a WSO for your services.

    Just some ideas... Good luck

I highlighted Jason's comments, because he make a good recommendation.

I doubt if you know me, but I offered high-end ghost writing for a number of years. And my ability to close the sale hinged heavily on my ability to get the prospect on the phone.

Marketing your ghostwriting business is extremely simple. It gets more complex when you want to make big money or get big jobs. But I’m living proof that a completely marketing-averse person with no business skills whatsoever can master it just enough to create a full-time online writing career out of it.

    Hi there

I use ghost writers, check out my blog and email me with a quote if writing for this niche interests you. I usually provide a pretty rough copy ie my thoughts and ideas and then ask the writers to pull it together into good blog copy.

Adding your site to your signature and becoming more active here is a great way to advertise your services. I see you are already half way there!

Guest blogging is another good idea. Contact internet marketing related blogs and ask to provide a quality, unique blog post that will contain a link back to your site.

Start a Warriors for Hire thread here to gain new clients.

Wow. I got about 4 different options for attack just by posting this! You guys are awesome. It really is true what everybody says around the internet about Warrior forum. I'm going to add action steps to my planner (yes, I'm that OCD) and get to work right away.

By the way, the comment about doing a WSO is a good one. I'm going to upgrade so I can post one to get testimonials for my site.

Seriously, thank you very much y'all.

Marianne has a nice answer for you.

If you are asking only about your website, I would advice to learn about SEO.

Do RSS syndication. If you want a quick and free way to get social bookmarks, one service is Only Wire.

If you make posts on your blog, you could bookmark all your posts-pages.

But again - if you are not comfortable with SEO, just learn it. It is not that difficult.

    Good luck!
