Reseller WHM - Not for the Faint of Heart!

Since I had 10 add-on domains on my Baby Croc account, I finally bit the bullet and upgraded to a Hostgator Reseller plan.

Being that I'm stubborn as hell, and also had a lot of housekeeping to do, I opted to create and install the new accounts myself and transfer the files.

After 4.5 hours and a lot of coffee, I finally figured that mutha' out. May I add that I would not recommend this to anyone without access to some serious medication!

At least I can say that I have another skill under my belt...and I'm ready to offer hosting (and support) to my new offline client(s)

Now it's time for a half dozen ice cold rocky mountain spring water (Coors Light)

LOL. It does take some time to figure out how to use the WHM but after a while, it becomes a breeze. I find it best suited if you own tons of sites.

Good job Steve, it does take some getting used to... I actually went straight into a reseller account, so that means I have no idea how the regular (baby croc for example) accounts look under the hood.

the thing that worries me when using it, if you chose to delete and account it doesn't ask you if you are sure it just deletes it!
Can easily make a mistake if not careful.

Yep, it took me a while too to figure it all out. Did it after a few hours of struggle. Hostgator wanted to charge me $75 per hour to transfer everything, each of the domains to its own account. I said I'll save myself the money. And I've learned lots in the process too about all this. For me it was worth it doing it on my own.

I'm glad I didn't ask how much before I started!

So all that grief was worth $337.50? The sense of satisfaction is priceless!

WHM is very easy to navigate and manage the web sites. Though people complain about that cpanel is buggy, I think it is a cool software. (Sure it conserve resources ... With all those features, it will ...)

WHM + little telnet knowledge, you'd be good to go on hosting lane

I don't find WHM difficult to use. I can use WHM, DirectAdmin, Esim without any problems.

Maybe I have a technical background which makes my learning curve shorter.

Ahh.. the merciless PM box. Those 5 minute reply limits led me to disable mine.

I have a client who just got a Dedicated Server from Host Gator. I don't care too much for Host Gator on the shared hosting side, but their Dedicated Server deals are tough to beat.

Now that I have gotten more used to WHM, I'll probably end up getting my own dedicated server in a month or so. Very nice setup to have.

Welcome to the wonderfull world of WHM! Let the fun begin.
Maybe sir Allen could create a "Host Masters" part of the forum for all us long time sufferers to gather in and help each other.

They are awesome, but scarey and expensive (Cpanel, WHM, etc licenses), plus you get dilemas like what os should i use, and the security is a big job unless you get a manged server.

Licenses? For cPanel? HostGator is not very upfront about anything to do with their servers. But their support is pretty good.

I really wanted the client to go with Rackspace, so it would all be handled with nothing to worry about it. Fully Managed. But it was out fo their budget.

This is a really good resource to learn about WHM...

    WebHost Manager User Manual

Without it I would have been lost last night.
