Forthcoming games niche

Hi All,

New to this forum and enjoying the advice given by all.

Been looking into making a few blogs related to forthcoming computer games as they seem to generally have low competition keywords and quite large search volumes.

I'm new to all this and wan't to monetize sites through adsense and amazon (or any other affiliate schemes you can recommend).

Anyway, would you guys advise trying out a few blogs based on forthcoming games?

All feedback appreciated!

Francis

Creating a single blog for each game will result in short lived income unless the game becomes/is a cult hit.

Best bet would be to create a game blog and then create sections for each new game release. Seo each of those sections to focus on the one game. That way the domain will build up reputation whilst also becoming rich in content.

Do you intend to do so on your own domain or a yourblog.wordpress.com type of blog? You should certainly try it but you must consider your choices. Perhaps the best long term way of doing such blogs would be to have your own domains, however it may be a while before your sites gets ranked for these 'low competition' keywords (as far as I know the video game review industry is pretty competitive) perhaps a good option to give Internet marketing a try is to start with places like Squidoo or maybe even Hubpages... you will have to give up some things like potentially wasted effort once you do decide to move to your own domain, but it is a good way to have access to significant amounts of traffic from Squidoo and Hubpages as well as the potential to market these posts in the search engines (you get a bit of an edge to have your content ranked in the search engines because it sits on such a big domain, especially Squidoo) and both Squidoo and Hubpages have profit sharing. If you have some success in places like this, then perhaps it is time to move to your own domain, but by then you will have invaluable Internet marketing experience that will help you market your site and even avoid some mistakes.

I was thinking I would do it on my own wordpress blog but I was thinking about doing 1 blog for each game. I thought this would be better as I would be able to rank higher in SERP's for each game?

If you have an established blog already, then just incorporate the sections for each game into it. As long as it's related of course. Just make sure you research on-site seo and changing the permalinks to be keyword rich, it could do so much more than starting up a new blog for each game.

This market is hugely competitive (and about as "mainstream" as you can get!) if you're hoping, as you've indicated, to receive traffic from search-engines.

Run a search for game-related keywords -- whatever-game review, whatever-game preview, or just whatever-game, etc. -- and you'll frequently find the same huge gaming authority-sites dominating the SERPs.

I'm not saying you won't be able to get some traffic this way, but it'll be an uphill struggle, I think.

Don't be fooled by seemingly low competition for a small number of forthcoming titles, too. Many of these sites that receive free review copies from publishers ahead of release will receive them at roughly the same time, so competition can and will quickly crop up out of nowhere.

Not to mention that I think many gaming enthusiasts typically rely upon the previews and reviews of the same circle of trusted sites and magazines whose "styles" they admire, overlooking and dismissing others. Everyone has their own preferences, of course. But I could see that making it difficult for you to attract a great deal of traffic via other sources, too, if it means essentially winning over other sites' loyal readers.

This is not an idea I'd be toying with, myself, anyway, but the absolute best of luck to you, if you decide to give it a shot!

The competition for computer games niche is very high.

As a game player I agree with that statement. Not only is there a large player base it also has staying power.

As mentioned there's going to be a lot of competition.

If you've identified that there's opportunity in GTA5 for example, you can be sure that a few months down the line there will be a whole host of websites in competition with yourself as the time for release draws nearer.

On the flipside, you have to be in it to win it, so if you're ready to do it just make sure you stand tall above the rest!

maybe i shall leave it then. I'm only using googles keyword tool at the moment to find niches and it indicated low competition for many forthcoming game titles, hence this thread...
