Hi guys and gals,

Just wondering whether anyone has any experience with tax collection on an international eCommerce site? I live in Canada but my domains are hosted in the US and most of my income comes from US customers. I should mention that I am not incorporated and do not have my business name registered.

Who do I charge sales tax to? People living in my home province in Canada? People in an arbitrary US state I select to be the home of my "US" business? Something else altogether?

Where can I find information on this topic?

I am inexperienced in this so any advice/help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks

Also, is there a place I could find this information out online?

I sell to US and Canada and have to collect sales tax in my home State, but not currently for other States or Canada. I would suggest if your chosen US State requires you to collect sales tax that you do it according to how they want it done. Especially if you end up filing a tax return in that State. You may also need to report your inventory and or equipment to the the proper tax authorities. Not all States require this, but mine does.

Go to your Provence and/or State websites and do a search there. Google can help, but the most authoritive info will be found on the government sites.
