MAX blogging brownie points?

I'm going to start a blog in the health niche and intend to update it daily. I haven't done this kind of regular updating of a site before and I was just wondering...
what is the optimal way to announce new content?
I'm looking for max brownie points from Google, but other traffic sources could potentially bring some traffic as well, of course. Also, anyone know of a good book/course about this topic?
