I can't believe how much crap gets spouted around here as fact, when it simply isn't true.

Now.. back to the OP...

What you need to do with your domain is.. canonicalize it...

Open up your .htaccess via FTP

and then right at the top before anything else, you might have nothing in your .htaccess, but if you do then you need to insert, right at the top:

RewriteEngine on
RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^mydomain\.com
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://www.mydomain.com/$1 [R=permanent,L]

Obviously substituting the mydomain for your actual domain...

Save and close your .htaccess.. job done..

You can switch the WWW pre-fix and choose which one you want to absorb your future pagerank.. if you don't do this then your page rank WILL be shared across the two over time.

It would help if you haveGoogle webmaster tools too, you can notify Google to remove whichever one you don't want to appear, although the re-direct above will do it, notifying google will draw attention to it quicker if your site doesn't get crawled much.
