Help! Traffic source research and Keyword analysis.

Hey whats up everyone?

Yes, not another newb question ; I have a general basic, or fundamental knowledge of the major methods of promotion (in concept, but have not started yet due to the lack of funds to invest - will start in Feb. as I'll get a 2k grant).

My niches will be email submits, dating, gaming (US and English speaking Euro countries), and mobile ('thinking mobile subscriptions). I will start with international traffic as the cpm / bids / clicks are much cheaper than those here in the states. I intend to promote via PPV / media buys. I have a friend running a few international campaigns. One campaign in particular - he spent 2xx and gained 23xx (he owns his own network). He has shared much information for which I am grateful, but I cant bug the heck out him with questions as he wants me to research and learn on my own, asap.

My question(s) then to all your warriors:

-What is the most effective way to find international traffic sources? Im not asking for specific sources. (however, Id appreciate it, but doubt anyone wants to give them out for free). Moreorless, the process and what works for you? Ive tried google advanced search with little success - mainly getting bs.

-Im also looking for traffic sources (US and English speaking countries) that specialize in gaming, as Ive been doing research for my first campaign. ????

-I kinda of understand keyword analysis and know of a few tools: Spyfu, KeywordSpy, google keyword, word tracker, Google's adplanner (helps more with finding high volume websites / demographics), etc. What processes have worked for you in the past & what are some keyword research related tools you have found to be accurate, etc?

-Any and all information/articles regarding PPV would also be appreciated.

Thanks in advance to those who took the time to thoughtfully respond / help!!

over the years i have owned websites i never got any good traffic off ppc,ppv it all cost too much and the people you get seem to be worthless i have done google, bing.yahoo, and i would say bing is the cheepest and best but i still dont use any of them anymore the real and only way to do this whole traffic thing is to do SEO and get a social media presence like facebook this is a huge way to get traffic and post on blogs comments a great way also and to do some easy seo make a wordpress, squidoo, and as many other free blog sites and point them all back to your site.. doing this all right will make your site get tons of free traffic.. my main site gets over 8k views per day and over 100 new members ever 24 hours and i dont pay any advertisers...

    • Tahoecale,

Great, good to hear, and cheers on your success. I appreciate the advice; I have thought about doing just that, however, it seemed like more work than necessary - I used to know html, photoshop (well), and some minor coding, just enough to create / edit an ad.

I can understand your position regarding ppv / ppc, it can be hit n' miss, no doubt, but I also know people who make substantial profits through their methods of promotion. For instance, my aforementioned friend does not do anything with blogs nor creates any websites, yet still makes a comfortable income, and believes I can do the same once I gain the experience and knowledge necessary to succeed. Furthermore, I realize that at first I may invest and lose money. Im not under the some illusive fallacy that I'll become an IM guru or instant millionaire. I do not think it grandiose to hope for 2-3k a month within a years period, especially with a little assistance from my friend. (as Im a student IM is perfect - Im just going through a rather difficult semester so balancing research, life, and studies is difficult). I only pray that Im not the statistical crash and burn.

I view it like this - The international markets want to prove themselves, the advertisers are less finicky compared to the US (or so Im told), the traffic is cheaper, although the conversion rates are low the cheap traffic (3,000 clicks for $3 - if only one converts then you break even) makes up for this.
Not that anyone wants to break even. lol. Anyways, this is one of the avenue that I would like to pursue if not just for the experience.

Can anyone give some good advice regarding my original post?

      Thanks - All the Best!

Listen to your friend. Any paid traffic sources are capable of being profitable. It's really all about testing. Simple things really make a difference on lp's. Always remember - you're marketing something to the public, which are known to not be fans of being advertised to. If you catch the eye, anyone can be sold, though. Even simple things such as color schemes in LP's make differences. I test multiple lp's when only initiating a 'test run' for a new offer. Stick to one traffic source to begin, and remember to understand WHERE the traffic comes from. Every paid traffic provider has a way of providing that traffic. Note your demographic, and start testing. The best way to learn is to START.
