If you have HTML, CSS and maybe PHP knowledge, it's not easy.

If you don't have programming knowledge, it's near impossible.

    Hope that helps

But hey, send me a PM, I'd love to help out. I already have a few ideas coming to mind..

Oh by the way - affiliate links are NOT allowed on the Warrior Forum in your signature. (check out the rules, they're quite explicit regarding that). I'd remove them quickly before you get banned.

Typepad has an export feature, but if you need further info there are plenty of articles in Google with tips on how to do it.

    Hi Jack,

Here's a DIY guide on how to move from Typepad to Wordpress:

    foliovision.com/2008/11/17/typepad-to-wordpress

    Here a service:

    foliovision.com/services/typepad-to-wordpress

If it's an important or large site with any SEO value, I'd go with the service.

if it's a small or new site of limited value, you could take a chance on DIY.

  • I hired someone to do it. I had my Typepad blog for over 5 years and the cost was around $400 to move everything including all links. If you would like the name of the person PM me and I will be happy to share.

I was very, very pleased with his services.

Anybody looked in their WordPress installation before replying?

wp-admin > Tools > Import: Movable Type and TypePad: Install the Movable Type importer to import posts and comments from a Movable Type or TypePad blog.

To the OP: you do NOT migrate to a WP "template" - you migrate to a WP installation!

Istvan is correct. I recently moved my 400+ posts from a Movable Type blog to my new Wordpress blog right from the admin area of my new WP installation.

It went fast and was very easy to do.

There is a problem, however, that wordpress warns about ... and that is that not all the formatting will be the same.

You will need to go into your moved posts and make a few changes. It's an easy thing to do, but with 400 posts it taking some time.

Also, I had images in the old posts that were hosted on a different server so I had to change all the image links. Again, not hard technically, but it takes some time.

      Good luck,

      Steve

        Hi Istvan,

Pressing the magic button inside will not move your images, videos and other media content.

It will also not retain your URLs, redirect your categories or do any of the important SEO steps which an established weblog or website requires.

Spending $500 to save yourself $20,000 to $200,000 in link equity an established site enjoys is the sensible decisions. We've moved sites with over 150,000 genuine posts and 500,000 comments: those cost more of course due to bulk both to move and to check, it can't all be automated alas. Heck Microsoft Seattle had us move their Typepad site to Wordpress as their programmers didn't want to take the move on. Same deal for ZenDesk and Yammer.

On the other hand, if you've got a casual weblog with a few dozen posts and the odd stray link coming in, paying us to do a pro move makes no sense and the magic button is almost enough (you still have to get the images across, as Steve points out).

        Cordial regards,

        Alec
