Willie Crawford is now following you on Twitter!

I've been getting famous marketers following me on Twitter...

Willie Crawford is now following you on Twitter! was the subject line today. The problem is they are fakes. Looking carefully the username was williecrawford_ and when I went to see the profile it was removed by Twitter.

I've gotten these from John Reese, etc. Someone is busy trying to build a following (or a scam ) with the good name of others. Beware.

What really torqued me was that the Willie impersonator who followed me actually used Willie's picture.

Also been followed by a fake Andy Beal and JR too. Morons...

This is actually one of the reasons Frank Kern had to create a Twitter account because there was a fake one.

Oh, I got the fake Willie following me too.

Also four different fake Bob Proctors - and I don't even know who Bob Proctor is.

Yeah, it's annoying, but Twitter does move pretty fast to shut these people down.

Don't let this deter getting to know who Bob Proctor is

The last couple of ones I received on Twitter, when I went to try to trace them down took me to a sales page signed by a fairly well known Warrior. He's already been getting bad press, I bet the fire gets even hotter.

So does the real John Reese.

I was followed by the fake Willie and the fake John yesterday morning and I knew they were fakes right away. But they each had like 20 people following them back... so they fooled a few people. But they were following like 160.

So, the scam wasn't really working... at least when I was on their profiles. But then they were shutdown like 4 hours later.

A lot of those people following the scammers are probably auto-follows - you know, they have an account like tweetlater or socialtoo which auto-follows anyone who follows them.

That's why I don't do that. I don't want to end up following scammers. For instance a while ago there was this spammer who had about 20 fake accounts, all with the word lim in them, all linking to the same clickbank page. I'd be really annoyed if I were following those accounts.

Yes, I got 4 of them in 1 day a few days ago. I'm starting to get annoyed, and the sad thing is twitter can do very little to completely stop the problem.
