Is this a little misleading? - amazon review site

I have an amazon review site, still tinkering with it.. conversions are around 2.5%

The home page have a a list of products, main title, pic, short blurb and 2 buttons, "read review" & "buy from amazon"

For the main title, I linked straight to the product on amazon, and have since changed it to linking to the actual review.

Is it misleading to link the title to amazon... I know the aim is to get people to amazon... but, I figure people expect this to bring them to the actual review.

I'm pretty sure conversions were higher when I linked to amazon.

I think conversion rate 2.5% is pretty cool. It depends a lot on what product you review.

I also think that it should be better to link straight to amazon product not review. People will find this review on the product site if they want to read it.

    hey dog,

I have tried something, or should I say, I am in the process of doing a experiment, so you can take it for what it's worth for you. What I am doing is setting up wordpress sites targeting one product. You can pick a product from Amazon that's popular that a lot of people are buying and talking about right? Do some searches to make sure there are a fair amount of searches a month for it. The 10,000 searches per month is good.
So what you do is set up this wordpress product review site with the name of the product in the domain name. Do 5 posts to your new blog. Have it set up to go out every 3-4 days. Looks better for seo that way. More natural. That's for the first 4 posts. On the last post, have it go out 2 weeks later. Then forget about it and move on to the next one. If you do it right, the search engines will rank you well and you'll get good traffic. Maybe you'll bring in only 50 - 100 bucks a month. What if you had 100 sites doing that? Something to think about.

    Hope that helps.

You bring up an interesting point, one that came up in another one of my amazon threads... exactly how many products to review.

There was those that thought 1 or 2 was best, as not to give them too much choice and make these the absolute best choice.

As for product name in the url... trademark issues dude... do a search, plenty on here about that.

Also, I think you'll need a bit more content... I've seen brand new competition in my main niche absolutly dominating google... very thin off page seo... but lots of great content... that must be how they're doing it.

They really are milking it.. but the content is still good.

I'm still hanging on it there and getting a respectable 400+ visits a day.

I think I'll put the link back in.

Exactly, not a good idea at all!

You might run into problems with your strategy Steve...best to do some research on it, once you do I think you will change your mind.

    Hey Dog

There are reviews on the Amazon page so they are actually getting what they are looking for, so linking directly to the Amazon review page still gets them to customer reviews..

You can also set your link to open in a new window which means if they did feel slighted and expected the review on your site then they can check again since your site is still open.

The goal is to get them to Amazon but its also a good idea to warm them up with a nice review first so they are pushed closer to making the buyer decision.

There was one affiliate that I was competing with for top spot on a bunch of domains and what he would do is install ONE jpg picture the size of the page with a youtube video with the play button and a nav bar everything so no matter what the visitor clicked on they went to Amazon.

Now that is being deceitful, since he was tricking them into clicking

Im sure his click thru was impressive for a while although he is know where to be found now in the serps

    Kickin it on Amazon

Hey Gaz, do you suggest taking them to the reviews page or the product page?

As for big image man... that's down right trickery.... he's done for when a human reviewer over at google sees that nonsense... no big picture there.

I cant think of anything better than getting your visitor to Amazons product review page, full of 4-5 star reviews of the product (except a sale of course)

As pointed out by Gaz...there are reviews on the product page so I don't see an issue with it.

Also, one other thing to consider...

If the title on your product review simply has the products name and nothing else (or something like "product x is awesome!") then whats wrong with linking to the product page since that is the only thing in the title?

If the title is "product x review" it might be a bit different but you dont often see many written that way
