What to promote on my site to start building a list?

I'm trying to think of what I can offer for free in exchange for people visiting my site to give me there email address so that I can set up a autoresponder. I was thinking of having a pop-up bar where they can input there name and email.

The website is on super cars... those really expensive and fast cars... so I'm trying to think how I can start a list and then what good content and affiliate products can I promote to them?

    The easiest way to come up with some good ideas is to go and visit the most popular forums in your niche. Look for the most popular threads and there you will find some great ideas for content you can offer to your visitors. If the niche you have chosen doesn't have any popular forums then it's probably not a great niche to be going after. Forums show that people are passionate about the subject. These are the sort of people you want to go target!

    ya , You have to offer something valuable to them , an eBook , newsletter , anything that can help them .

    and tell them exactly what they will get and what should they do to get the free gift

    You're going to have to think outside the box.

    Someone interested in super cars doesn't care about ebooks. That's pretty obvious.

    People who go on those types of sites are either looking for specs (hp, torque, etc) and PICTURES. High-res background quality pictures.

    So what does that mean? Offer a HUGE pack of high quality desktop pics instead of an ebook. Something like 2GB of backgrounds or something MASSIVE. There's tons of places online you can get massive background packs, just mix and match a few.

    Go one step further and brand every single background with your logo/url. Hire someone from odesk or freelancer.com and don't lift a finger.

    Basic thing is to do something for them -> for FREE. Creating an ebook or service can be really helpful. People nowadays hate to just opt-in because they know what will happen -> spam.

    Anyway try to give them value and they will give you their data.

    Yep, as was stated pictures but also add videos, screensavers, maybe some Amazon products things guy who like cars would want could be offered down the road in the follow up messages.

    I love the pictures idea! Screensavers, desktop backgrounds, even facebook profile pages Anyone obsessed with something visual will love it.

    However, the next question is - what are you going to sell to them? How will you monetize this niche?

      Start creating small reports on those fast cars and inform people about the features of each car. The benefits, the flaws, etc. and I am sure interested visitors would be willing to subscribe to your email list. Free good quality reports always work in list building.

      But the key is to providing really high quality content otherwise, even if they subscribe to your list, they'll unsubscribe if they don't find any value.

        So offer Amazon products related to supercars with my affiliate ID in the email I send them?

        Am I allowed to giveaway images of super cars that I find off the internet?

        Good question. Maybe Amazon products or some other type of affiliate product. I have never created my own product, but maybe that could be something to do in the future.

    Keep providing useful and interesting content about fast cars or anything within that area that is still relevant. Then give a clear call to action what people will learn or get if they opt-in to your list. Forums is also a very good way. WF and Yahoo Answers are 2 very powerful forums.
