Best Payment Processor???

I use FirstData for my business where Paypal isn't an option. I haven't ever had any issues with them and it integrated pretty well with my site. I don't know any of the code stuff though so you will have have to work that out.

Fastspring allows paypal, credit card and check or money order as a payment option for your customers.

And then they pay you what you have earned via check, paypal, wire transfer and a couple of other options.

So you dont actually have to have a paypal account in order to have your customers pay you. I am guessing that they have so many paypal transactions going on each day that they are pretty tight with paypal, at least in regards to volume.

But you might want to ask fastspring about a launch scenario.

I will check this out too. It sounds like what I am looking for. I am about to turn on some heavy duty backlinking and don't want Paypal to suddenly shut the pipe just because of a sudden volume change. They have done this before on launches.

Fastspring looks excellent. But its only for digital or software products. I will use that for some of my later software products for SEO, Backlinking, Traffic Building etc...

For now the front runner is Plimus. They really seem to have it all. Fees are a bit steep, but then there is no front load. Just flat % off the sale. Anyone have experience with Plimus?

Actually when in fastspring, when setting up your products, you can select "physcial item".

I would send them an email and tell em what you do. I am sure they could set you up perfectly.

I once had a problem got sorted out in about 1/2 hour... Shawn (the support guy) later revealed he was stuck in traffic on his way to thanksgiving dinner! And so he was doing everything in his car!

I personally like using clickbank. there fee's are a little bit higher but you have the additional benefit of not having to process your own refund, tech support, and on top of that teh huge affiliate network they have.

My product for this one is pH Drops for alkalizing water and killing the acid found in bottled waters like Desani and Aquafina. This market is mostly the over 50 crowd and they are beginning to feel the effects of the highly acidic western diet. BUT... Most of them don't have Paypal. They all have Visa or Mastercard.

So, I am pretty sure if I switch from just PayPal only to offering something like a Plimus shopping cart that takes the major credit cards, then sales will go stinking nuts!

I get a huge amount of traffic and my site is #2 and #5 in my niche on Google out of 2.6 Billion sites! Yes.. that's B for BILLION!

I just haven't bothered to look for a good payment processor since I run 60 other sites... and I'VE BEEN BUSY! Lol....

Anyone use Plimus successfully?

I would definitely agree with nicholasb, who suggested you look into the possibility of using clickbank. Good reputation, accessible, and affordable. You can't go wrong with them. Also, not having to handle your own, refund requests is "key".

I have also been doing a bit of research (WF threads + google) on this topic. Although I don't have any first-hand info/results yet, my impressions are:

Paypal - 50% happy, 50% unhappy (or at least wary)
AlertPay - 80% users happy with it (mainly IM niche)
2CO - 90% good reports, 10% wary
Clickbank - 90%(+) happy with payment processing side of it at least.

*Disclaimer* This is by no means a scientific study, or an accurate poll, these are just my impressions

Have also heard great reports about PowerPay, but don't have enough info about it at this stage.

There are a lot of horror stories about Paypal of course, and a lot of people defending it. I suspect many of the people defending it are not doing high volumes ie $300/day plus is where many seem to start having problems. Or pehaps they are not having unusual activity - large launches etc. Of course if anyone is doing something 'dodgy' they can expect problems, and if you get on the phone and yell at them you can expect a lot more troubles!

Either way I think it is great advice to have a backup or three, and most people seem to agree that everyone can expect Paypal to at least take a closer look at their business (ie freeze their account) at some stage.

Personally I was leaning towards AlertPay, but after hearing a few negatives I am now thinking 2CO + Clickbank (+ Paypal of course). At some point I need to just bite the bullet, go with a few options and collect my own results.

I wasn't aware that Clickbank offered payment services for physical products that would be fulfilled by the vendor. Is this true that they do? I've never ever bought a vitamin, for example, and been pushed over to Clickbank for payment. What am I missing?

Except that they will freeze your account if:

1. They don't like the volume
2. They think something is wrong with what you are doing...
3. They see unexpected surges in revenue....

I had one transaction frozen by them and it took two weeks to clear the issue up.
They are draconian in operating style.

They can't do that...

I understand your frustration, as I got limited account access twice in the past 6 years or so.

But in a complex industry like this one, they just can't ignore what *THEY* think a high risk transaction(s).

After all they are a business... and they sit their own rules, want to deal with them, then YOU have to accept their TOS

I highly recommend Durango. They are absolutely fantastic to work with!! You can speak to a real person whenever you need to, which isn't the case with most CC processing providers. Also, they have no set up fee, no early termination fee & no contract whatsoever!!

Hey Dave! HUGE thanks for this tip! I just signed up on Store Coach (Durango) and gave them your name as the referrer. Now THIS site has done it right! They have a ton of training videos and loads of documented information online. It looks like they us ZuluCart for processing and that is great! They have banners and graphic design support as well as keyword and SEO support tools. I love the "store checklist" feature!

I am also looking for one and so far I have found Upload N Sell @ uploadnsell.com which has no transaction fees (I am not sure if this is the only payment processor that is fee-free, please tell me if there is others) but the problem I didn't like that much is that they don't record traffic such as unique clicks and also they don't allow you to edit your product and you have to reupload it!

Anyone can list some pro and cons on payment processor will be good!

I think u you can try 2CO, good option

Alertpay - I heard now a days issue with Credit Card Processing.

You can also try Moneybookers - but I think their fees are quite high compare to others.

Great to have many responding to this post...

I personally hated paypal, as for some reason they do not allow user from many country, like where i live.
but i believe the have the largest IM clients... And when you completely discard Paypal you stand to lose a large number of sales...

I think the best alternative is Clickbank, With its great reputation and the possibility for people to Use Credit card or Master Card in case they don't have paypal...

Another point for 2co is their partnership with payoneer. You will be issued a free debit mastercard to cash-out anywhere anytime.

That question is really no-brainer... since you are in this industry, you should be aware of Clickbank, they are pretty good... beside them, I would probably go with 2CO... choose one of those two... good luck

If you are like me, then you hate PayPal's transaction fee's which are based on percentages. So I recently came across Dwolla, checked it out, and ever sense then I've switched most of my merchant services over from PayPal to Dwolla. I recommend checking it out. I've only been with Dwolla a short while, and I've all ready saved thousands of dollars in transaction fees.

As for "Account Freezing" I'm not sure if I can give you to much information, as I am not a technical junkie. But I have once in the past had this problem with one of my PayPal accounts, and a better alternative would be 2CO

I'm sorry the folks writing the ad copy for Dwolla must be on CRACK! What they say makes no sense. Right off their site: "Dwolla does not process credit or debit cards. Dwolla doesn’t allow anyone to use any existing network and carry it’s fees into our system." Maybe English is their second language and they just didn't know what they were writing? Who knows....

Their site took forever to load and was lacking in substance. I don't think I could trust these guys....

BTW, I think your assumption of greatly increasing your conversion rate is dead on.. We have found that it virtually doubles our conversion rate to add on site CC processing for a website that previously only accepted paypal standard..

And yes, I personally know someone that had their PayPal account frozen with a large balance in it..

Lol.. .Hey Dave, I got to the video on Store Coach where YOU are the guy teaching! Right on dude!

It is not often that someone comes along that GETS IT! But you GET IT. You guys have thought this all of the way through.

I've been playing with internet marketing since 1992. I've always used Paypal and done ok. But I never took this seriously enough in the past to worry about profits. It basically supplied me with beer and fun money... to attend Affiliate West and stuff like that. I live a breath computers. I'm online about 18 hours a day - which two 30 minute commutes to work and an hour on the treadmill to burn off calories.

Some would call that a work-a-holic, except I don't see the "work" part. I am paid to play all day.

When I saw that you used iMovie to create the videos, I should have realized that you guys would be just a few steps ahead of the crowd! I live on my Macbook Pro 17" Laptop!

As others have posted. First Data is a solid company with support. They have monthly fees but they are well worth the peace of mind versus Paypal. No worries about frozen accounts with First Data.

I don't mind a monthly fee. I would expect it.. otherwise how good could they be? What I value most is that they process transactions with next to no issues, and that they mind their own business! Ie... don't get arbitrarily involved in disputes between purchasers and sellers. In ten years I've never had a real issue except once with Paypal... and they immediately take the side of the purchaser with no questions asked.

I've had my own Paypal horror story and as such moved to 2checkout. So mine is another vote for 2CO - I love that my customers can still pay by Paypal if they wish but it doesn't go through my own Paypal account so I don't ever need to worry about Paypal freezing my account. Customers can also pay by credit card. I've never had any issues with 2CO adn their customer service has always been outstanding.

Iv been using 2checkout for some time now... and these guys amaze me with their customer support. They're there to help you any which way...
their tech support team is also very good and experienced...

i'v been extremely happy with them so far and the great thing about them is that my customers can still pay thru paypal without me having to touch paypal at all...

I'v heard MANY horror stories about paypal. Some of them to people I know personally... Someone I know just got their account frozen, because of just 3-4 disputed payments while this guy has been running this service for over 2 years now... they've frozen over $100k of his for 270 days! this was just about a month ago.... Its insane...

The way I see it, paypal is using their customer's money for their business and not paying interest!

why not get a true merchant account through a company like authorize.net. these guys deal with real businesses everyday and are much easier to deal with. its much harder for them to do stuff like paypal does and just freeze your accounts and hold money.

dont get me wrong, it can be done, but they have a much harder time doing stuff like that than paypal does. you will have a small monthly fee, but your percentage rates will be lower. so in the end you save money too.

I tend to NOT like the big guys. I'd prefer to see some diversity in the marketplace. Authorize was a bit arrogant in the early days. I haven't forgotten that.

Yes... that is the problem. So many to choose from. So far 2CO and and Store Coach are my favs. I think that for the average Internet marketer out there who has some product, Store Coach is the best. They offer a number of features that a marketer would otherwise have to pay premium for anyway, so the low monthy cost makes it totally worth it. Plus, Store Coach has overly complicated the process. Anyone can run the system.

I could not agree more with David Keith. I used PayPal for a couple of months, and came to the realization that I would be better off getting my own merchant account, and using Authorize.net as a gateway.

The advantages of your own merchant account:

1. The money automatically hits your account in about two days.

2. Your money is collected by an FDIC insured bank.

3. You can get a much, much lower rate (ie. 1.99%).

4. Your account will not be frozen for an invalid reason.

5. The customer service is far superior.

This is by no means an exhaustive list. However, take it from someone who went from PayPal, to a merchant account with an Authorize.net gateway. Things are more the way that they should be when running your business with your own merchant account. You are not at the mercy of a third-party non-bank who can cripple your business at the blink of an eye.

Try 2CO. Professional service and have had no issues so far.

Plimus is another option, tho their transaction approval process is ridiculous.

You can also try Moneybookers - but I think their fees are quite high compare to others.

Thanks... I am hearing a lot of positive comments about 2CO. I do like Plimus but like you say, the approval process is lacking. Plimus has a lot of features, but the interface leaves me cold. It's like .... they are not from here. Here... being North America. I think its down to Store Coach and 2CO.

There is some discussion about fees here as well. My personal thought are that I don't mind fees. Everyone needs to make money. If I am selling 150 items a day and netting $15 a pop, I don't mind paypal type fees... but they have to perform. They can't arbitrarily decide to freeze my account. They cannot, for any reason, do anything to my account without first calling me or emailing me to ask permission to talk about it. I won't accept a payment process who thinks he's anything more than just a service provider.

The BEST payment processor by far is Litle and Co. That being said, good luck getting approved unless you have substantial cash in the bank, and a real product. They have little tolerance for fraud, charge backs and other issues.

They are the processor for everyone from Overstock to CafePress.

Thanks! I'll check them out too. Nobody has mentioned them yet. I have a real product and I ship all over the world. The only concern is that this company may be under the illusion that it is both a payment processor and a policing organization. They should stick to just processing payments and leave the law to those who know it. That might be why no one here has heard of them. The people here are not fraud artists. They are very hard working people who mostly have jobs, but who are smart enough to see where commerce is going. They have the guts and energy to get out there and make an effort.

The last thing anyone here needs is some arrogant payment processor tossing down a spike belt across the eCommerce highway.

My impression? THEY SUCK! They REALLY SUCK. They must have an inferiority complex or something. They spend all of their time on pretty much any page you go to .. .telling you how good they are! They are trying to gain success by association.

They are old school and way behind the times. Every page has 30,000 word essay on it! What makes them think that their time is more valuable than mine? I click through all of the pages and found ZERO plan details. Three clicks at Store Coach and I know what I'm getting and how much it costs.

Where are the videos explaining how the system works? FORGET about telling me who else uses you! I don't give a rip who uses litle.com! I want to know what you can do for me. It's about ME not YOU!

They have an old style outdated and lethargic interface. They use words to try to artificially boost themselves and conceal their secret complexes. They are under the illusion that it's ok to type a million words and to waste my time.

I don't care who they represent, they are LAST on my list.

Hi Lucidboomer,

Thank you for starting this thread and thanks to all posting some good information.

It allows to get fresh input about the subject, as this is a regular concern about IM marketers.

Even if Paypal has a good support among many online sellers and buyers, it's not safe to keep using them only.

Paypal has frozen my account once for no justifiable reason; saying that I was involved in some pyramid scheme, while I was only selling regular resell rights digital products.
I had no warning and they never provided evidence to support their allegation.

Of course, the frozen account issue doesn't and probably won't happen to everyone.

But again, it's better to prevent against this ahead of time and have another payment processor handy in case it happens to you.

If you don't want to loose your Paypal customers, you can use another Payment processor that offers Paypal in their payment options, such as:
2Checkout, Clickbank, Paydotcom (Warrior Mike Filsaime),...

You're making my point. If they are making that kinds of money, why do they need to spend ANY TIME beating their chests? My time is too valuable to listen to bunch of insecure kids telling my how great they are. Just show me your services and your prices. I couldn't find their prices anywhere on the site. Nada. No sign of costs. I don't care if they made 900 M. I'm not impressed by money. I have what I need. This stuff is my PASSION... not my income.

My understanding of Clickbank and physical products is that you still need to have a digitally deliverable part of the product....

I.e an ebook or guide + a DVD

I don't think they do 100% physical products only...

While we are on this subject , I think there's something else to consider about choosing the right payment processor for you.

I think the main problem for Internet Marketers selling digital goods is finding automation software that makes the payment process and delivery easy, hassle-free, secure and trustworthy enough for both the customer and the marketer.

If you are selling physical goods, you can find easy alternatives to Paypal.

It just happens that many developers have been inclined to create scripts that work mainly with Paypal, hence the attraction to vendors.

So before signing up for an alternative to Paypal, it's essential to check the delivery script/software you are using or intend to use, to see if it will work with the new payment processor of your choice.

Ive always used Paypal on my sites as a secondary payment method just because so many people are sitting there with 'secret' money in their Paypal accounts that nobody knows about that they dont mind spending recklessly.
You cant beat having a merchant account though and using a payment gateway. Ive tried most of them and found Secure Trading the easiest to set up and use and if there is a problem someone actually answers the telephone when you need help.

PayPal allows your customers to use their crdit card without becoming a PayPal member, you realize this right? So the fact that your audience is older does not mean that they need to sign up or be with PayPal, as far as Account freezups they are rare enough... the only thing that sucks about PayPal is that their per transactions fees can be quite high. Why not talk to your local bank to see how much a merchant account will be, they may be able to provide a better rate and better service. Just stay away from national/international banks such as the big 5 (BofA,USbank,Chase,Citi,WellsFargo) perhaps find a local Credit Union and see what their rates are... typically though, unless you have significant volume PayPal will still be better because of no per month charges...

I have linked up my Payoneer account with 2CO.. haven't had the need to withdraw from 2CO to my payoneer card but I do use payoneer regularly and as such am happy with their service. However, I should mention here that when it comes to contacting support, its really difficult to get a hold of someone...

There is usually a long que and Iv had to wait as much as 40 mins to be able to talk to someone. When contacted support via email, it took them about 10 days to respond.

When you do get in touch with someone, they're really good and professional but they gotta up their support capacity I think...

About the support - you are right. We had such a huge growth over the last year+ that we were having a hard time catching up with hiring and training new support reps (it takes a few weeks since there's a lot and it's a complicated topic, as we are dealing with money). We actually have a new group of support reps about to start training as well, so we are doing our best to make that go faster.

For what it's worth, you have someone on the inside here - anyone who contacts me via email, Twitter, our Facebook page, or ICQ pretty much gets taken care of quickly. Just so you know.

I am using Paypal for at least 3-4 years now and have no problem with it so far. However, after reading some horror stories about those frozen account, I feel the need to find some other options. I think I will give Alertpay and 2CO a try after reading the replies over here. I am really thankful for the thread.

Not only will PP hold up payment for vague reasons, they are as was noted earlier... a Leviathan of slow moving size, after requesting my clients IRS tax forms (to verify 503-B tax status) they failed to inform me that they did not
"receive" the fax properly...in all this delay we launched the site and had scores of missed payments (it took 19 days and 3 fax attempts)

I found the backdoor phone numbers at
paypals**ks.com (replace ** w/ uc)
in case the kids are marketing tonite
and got phone answered in 4 rings

Not dogging any other payment company, just letting you know that if, for some reason, we find suspicious activity in an account and decide to shut it down, the remaining funds in the account are sent directly back to the partner (2CO in this case, for example), so that the user can get them a different way. We don't freeze accounts and funds.

I have been using PLIMUS for the last 3 years and would happily review their service:

PROS:
- They NEVER missed a payment and are always on time.
- Support is pretty good... during the past 3 years, I sent about 50 SUPPORT tickets got 48 of them answered within a 48 hour time-frame. (2 were unanswered though)
- They have good security measures to avoid any chargebacks or fraudulent transactions.
- Payments are intergrated with Payoneer, so you automatically get your money straight to your credit card.

CONS:
- You get paid every 15th of every month (NET 30 system)
- Clients from Europe will pay 20%+ VAT fees which will drive away customers from Europe if they don't have a Registered Company Number.
- Inability to " ADD TO CART ", however, they are trying to implement this.

OVERALL, I rate PLIMUS as very reliable and an honest company.

Will be giving 2CO a shot next month and will share my experience with a detailed comparison between PLIMUS and 2CO.

I have been using Plimus for some time now and they are really great. But now they have changed their stance on PayPal and you have to integrate your own PayPal account into there process in order to be able to accept PayPal payments! This is a disaster as far as I am concerned as I want to keep all the received PayPal payments away from my PayPal account if you get what I mean.

Need to take a look at 2CO now I guess!
