New member - testing the affiliate water before I dive in.

Just wanted to introduce my self as i like to do when I join a forum, well i have decided to test out affiliate marketing and learn more about the ways of escaping the rat race and working for myself.
I have been testing affiliate marketing now for around 2 weeks and made 29p (or 46¢) so im defiantly not doing it correctly from what i hear people make hence why im coming in for help
I currently have a website called 'laserpenuk' which you might have guessed affiliates laser pens, from amazon to be exact - I don't think its overly complicated as my HTML is still in infant stages, but im starting to think this maybe one of my first mistakes and to let it go and start a new ? I get from what i can see around 1-3 hits per day which isnt going to be making me much on small value items.
The plan is when i make enough from affiliate marketing i will buy access to the 'warrior room', but i would like to get the basics down before i go that far as i dont want to run before i can walk situation
