Your Favorite Free WP Plugins And Themes For Blogging

Hey Warriors,

I am looking for free plugins and themes to use for blogging.
Currently I am working on new products to give away to my
list. As I always strive to provide popular, up to date and easy
to implement products that will help them to succeed, I would
appreciate your input.

What is YOUR favorite Plugin?
What is YOUR favorite Theme?

Thank you in advance for sharing!
-Monika

I've grown to like Flexibility (free) / FlexSqueeze (paid) themes for blogging or niche sites in general because they are so customizable and quite easy to learn.

As far as plugins go, picking a favorite really depends on what your needs are. For seo purposes, All in One SEO is a great plugin to have. For forums, I've enjoyed mingle. It just really depends on what your needs are as there are so many plugins available that can meet the same need.

Without a doubt, thesis is my top choice for a theme.

As for plugins, these go on each of my sites without exception:

    Contact Form 7
    Easy Privacy Policy
    google xml sitemaps
    Recent posts with excerpts
    Add to any

If you use Thesis, you don't need All in one SEO.

    Hope this helps.

Platinum SEO, Easy Contact Form and Sociable are great. For a free theme, I really like Atahualpa.

For themes, I have tried several from free to paid and I have settled on Weaver because it is just so easily customizable. There is a free version, a $20 "Plus" version for your own sites and a $40 version to add your customers sites.

WordPress Weaver | Building better WP Websites

As plugins go, All in one SEO is helpful, but I went ahead and paid for SEOPressor and I am very glad I did.

    Free Themes: K2 and Atahualpa.
Free Plugins: Not a big fan of them (prefer to include them along my functions) but use the obvious XMLSitemap, WPCompressor and ContactForm7.

But since you're asking this to create a blogpost (or similar) to offer your visitors/list, you should know your business inside out - walk the walk.

      Hi Fernando,

      Thank you for your suggestions.

BTW I am not looking to create a blogpost.

Sorry, I think I did not express myself properly. See...I use thesis 18 and customized it as well, so I know it is not exactly easy for newbies to set up. Actually I am looking for free and easy to implement themes and plugins to help them make their first step. In other words I want to provide them with tools they can use without being technical geniuses.

      Thanks again,

      Monika

I should be very cautious before just adding random plugins to your Wordpress CMS installation, when, in all probability, you don't even need them.

Many are poorly written, inefficient, resource hogs, creating a slow site and heavy server loads. You could end up receiving a complaint from your service provider because you are hogging too many server resources.

I recommend a few plugins for security reasons: Akismet, BackupBuddy, WordPress Firewall 2, and Login Lockdown, but other than that, fit installations to requirements, don't instal any just because you see them on a list of recommendations.

Flexibility 3 and Suffusion are my favorite themes.

As for plugins, you say All-in-One-SEO is the best, but I found something that has this one and beyond. It's called Free Traffic Getting SEO Pluging by Jeff Johnson.
