Google Voice Help Needed

I've had a google voice number since they first came out but I have seldom used it. I received an email from google that if I didn't use it I would lose the number in 7 days. Here's the email from google:
"We noticed that you haven't used your Google Voice number in a while. Because phone numbers are a limited resource, it is our policy to reclaim unused numbers so they can be made available to new users.

If you'd like to keep your Google Voice number, you will need to make calls or send text messages by November 15, 2011 by logging in to your account or using one of our mobile apps.

If you have been reluctant to use your Google Voice number because you didn't want to change your phone number, you may be interested to know that we recently launched the ability to port your existing mobile phone number to Google Voice. This means that you can take advantage of all of Google Voice's features, like one number that rings all of your phones, free text messages, and voicemail transcription -- without having to get a new phone number.

Here's my problem when I go to my G account and go to voice I get a pop-up that ask if "I want a new number" or "I want to use my mobile number".

I don't want a new number since my google number is somewhat special, so my only choice would be use my mobile number.

Is the mobile number they are asking for my google number or my cell number?

When I use my cell number, I get another pop-up that asks:
Available options for using your existing mobile number:
Port your mobile number to Google Voice.
Porting means that you move your number from your carrier to Google Voice. You can then use the full set of Google Voice features without having to change your number.

Get Google Voicemail for your existing mobile number
Keep your existing number with your carrier and get the lite version of Google Voice which includes some of the most popular features like online voicemail and voicemail transcriptions.

If I use my google number I get this pop-up:
Get Google Voicemail for your existing mobile number
Keep your existing number with your carrier and get the lite version of Google Voice which includes some of the most popular features like online voicemail and voicemail transcriptions.

Porting your mobile number to Google Voice is unavailable
Your mobile number can not be ported at this time.- We currently don't support porting from your carrier. We apologize and are working on adding support for more carriers.

All I'm looking to do is just keep my G number.

I'm hoping that someone has gone through this and can give me some direction.

Thanks,

Brian

I haven't seen this before. Can you go into your voice settings and add a landline to forward your number to? Or do the popup questions prevent you from even going that far?

Correct, the pop-up prevents me from accessing any voice features.

Look up google voice lite. It sounds like they have a slimmed down version for people that don't really use it much. I would think that you would want to pick this:

Get Google Voicemail for your existing mobile number
Keep your existing number with your carrier and get the lite version of Google Voice which includes some of the most popular features like online voicemail and voicemail transcriptions.

It says you keep your carrier and get google. I am trying to visualize what is going on, but does that make sense? I use it a lot and haven't see that pop-up screen before, but I am also not using the lite version.

Actually after I posted I see the issue you are having. It wants you to change numbers. I think I found a solution that will cost you $20. Aside from that I couldn't find the exact answer you were looking for:
Keeping your original Google number (after a number change, Google Voice on Sprint integration, or porting your number) - Google Voice Help

Checked out the link, still not sure if that's what I should do. But time is running out so I'll have to try something.

It actually sounds like the already reclaimed the number. The only time I have seen that message is when I setup a new Google Voice number.

    Thanks Barry,

I'm thinking that also. Never had a chance to keep the number. I'll try getting a new number and see if I can pay to keep the old number. The link above says that it should cost me $20.

    We'll see.

In the end are they letting you keep the number if you pay $20? I am curious what they did.
Thanks and hope it worked out.
