Should i scrap this idea and start over ?

Hello everyone

As part of my first ever website marketing idea i got the domain powershopper.co.uk, with the idea of making it a successful online shop. Little did i realise i wasn't really targeting a niche per-se instead i was simply flooding a website with links to buy items... not going to be successful as far as i can see, i get very little traffic, maybe 1-3 visitors a day.

In a last ditch attempt to spice the website up i did reviews on buying guides (tv's, laptops, tablets etc) and a plan to build on this with more guides in the future. I have also branched out into an attempt to product reviews in an attempt to produce new content.

Now; looking at it all i think im creating more work for my self on a sinking ship, thus far it has made me nothing in 2 weeks.

Should i abandon this site and start from scratch in your expertise and IM knowledge ?

Thanks

Simple answer is: No because good chance you're going to make it works by tweaking it correctly.

The first success I had online was made with a complete flop and ended up working pretty well. I had a product nobody wanted even tho I had something like over 300 people on my list.

I tweaked my offer and I did my first $500 day out of no where. If I haven't been perseverant on what's not working and finding a way to make it works, I would have done nothing.

I am sure every good marketers here can tell you a similar story.

If you think your spinning your wheels, stop working on this site. Find another way to make money online. Maybe go after a niche and create a squeeze page with a free review/buyers guide or something else.

I find that when I hit a brick wall on a project I get little accomplished if I keep pushing on the wall. If I back away and leave it alone, go work on something else (possibly related but different) I can then come back with fresh new ideas. I find that I can then leverage my previous work in ways I had no idea about previously.

Doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.

If what you are doing is working then keep at it. "Wash-Rinse-Repeat" as they say. If it is not working then pause where you are at. Work on something new that you can put a lot of energy into. Then come back and rethink your current site. I think you will be amazed at the ideas you will have for your site if you get away from it a while.

    Hope that helps,
    Anthony.

Making a decision to abandon something after only two weeks isn't a good idea. It seems that you are going down the correct path in that you are adding content and value for your visitors.

If you haven't already done so, do a little keyword research with Google's Keyword Selection Tool to see which buyer terms have the most searches with relatively low competing search pages.

Then use up to three keywords per product review page or in your articles and then see what happens. Leave your site alone for a few weeks while you do something else and then check back to see what the results are.

It can take time to generate income so persevere and don't rely entirely on just one site or income source.

I think you have an attractive domain name and can build on it.

The key for you may be to target product niches with keywords that have low competition. Then build review pages around those keywords and monetize them through affiliate links to product sales pages (Amazon or whatever).

Don't try to be everything to everybody but be selective in what you are promoting.

Your project reminds me a little of the two projects I'm doing together but combined. While I'm still a newbie at this, I agree with the other posters' points. Two weeks might be too early to decide whether or not it's worth continuing on, and maybe you might need a narrow focus on a set of product (or just one).

I also agree that you may need to do some keyword research in order to get to the first page of Google for more free traffic. And who knows, if those "tweaks" are correct, you'll see the cash flow

You need content. You can add a blog to your site, or you can add content all across the web just driving buyer traffic back to your site when they are ready to buy.

There are many free sites which you can use to drive traffic. Sites like youtube, article sites, etc.

Learn some free traffic generation methods, don't worry about SEO, and just drive traffic back to your site.

It can just be the end-destination and if you get traffic through your other properties, you dont' necessarily have to worry too much about your site layout and the fact that it's only really a store. You could even start another site that's more of a blog with content and reviews and use it as a feeder site back to your shopping site.

Most of all, don't give up after only 2 weeks!

You need not abandon the site. You just need to reorganize it or delete some links and some posts. You also have to identify a specific keyword first, one that would be the basis of everything that you'll be writing in your site.

After putting your site in order, you have to build backlinks and do some article submissions. Make sure you link back to your site. That way, you'll build more targeted traffic to your site.

How about focusing on doing reviews of newly released products, you may find more people are looking at that stuff and there might be a bit less established competition for those keywords. I also agree that two weeks isn't giving that option any justice, heck 2 months isn't enough time to see if something will be profitable, some of my sites takes years to start making money...

It doesn't seem like you've invested enough time to determine whether this is going to be a complete failure or not. Plus, if you abandon this without learning from it then what makes you so sure your next one won't result to a "sinking ship" as well? I say stay on this ship, patch up the holes and add a new motor! Sorry if that was too many analogies for you, but basically make necessary improvements and SEO, increase your knowledge as to how to drive traffic, and keep working on it!

Thanks ! You have really given me food for thought and how to improve it ^^, first things first going to look into starting some form of blog platform in a bid to create original content to compliment the website.
