As if videos with no fast-forward or rewind weren't annoying enough, now I'm running into sales videos with no control at all - you can't even pause the video! No controls, and when you click on the video, it keeps right on playing.

Can marketers possibly be more annoying? (don't answer that!)

Have a great day!

You are on the wrong forum, Joe. The Buyers Rant about stuff they don't like forum is different to this internet marketing forum.

This forum is about selling stuff, not buying.

They might seem annoying but they force people to pay attention and get the entire message. The concept is to weed out the people who try to fast farward everything and attract SERIOUS people who will likely benefit from watching the entire video.

SERIOUS people who will likely benefit from watching the entire video?!!!

      ROTFL

Do you REALLY think it is the aim? It is a simple psychological trick based on human curiosity. Since you can't FF or just stop you watch. Otherwise, you'd FF to the point where the price tag is and made your decision to buy or not to buy.

Message?! What message "I was working my butt 60 hours a week moving boxes from one place to another, blah, blah, blah... stumbled upon this secret piece of software/unheard of system/blah, blah, blah. Started earning gazzillions the day after... Now I am going to sell you my secret for a fraction of what it is worth... $97/month

THIS is usually the message. You've seen one, you've seen all of them. I puke whenever I hit a link in an e-mail and land on something like this.

Decent marketers understand that you may not feel like sticking to your monitor for half an hour to listen to the story of their life, and go right to the point or offer you the possibility to control the video playback so if a video is too long you can watch it in chunks over the day or even three if you wish. And you WILL get the entire message.

I too am one of those grumpy old men who agree with the OP.

If a marketer thinks he/she can "force" someone to pay attention and "get" the entire message I think you will be in for a BIG disappoinment in your Internet marketing career.

If this is what some marketers actually believe works, then I suggest they test one video without controls and one with. I "Detest" (capital D intended) opening or starting a video that does not allow me to control it by pausing it if a phone call comes in that might be a sale for my business, or my grand daughters come to visit or heaven forbid us old men who have to use the bathroom more often than you younger guns.

I might like what I am seeing or hearing but if something causes me to leave the screen and come back and have to start over again, not only do I still not know how long the video is and how much of my time it will take up, I have to sit through the entire part I already viewed because I have NO idea how much time I was already viewing it.

Marketers cannot force a prospect to get their message or for that matter make them get their ccard out and buy whatever it is you are selling.

Yes, I am disappointed that I made more money doing this. I feel really sad about the whole thing.

Well - I certainly sell far more than I buy.

But if you have a video on your sales page that auto plays I click off immediately. I know that the vast majority of people do the same by a poll I did with my list.

And not being able to stop it? Ridiculous!

That is bound to hurt sales. (IMO)

If your list said it then it must be true. I mean, it isn't like people to say things and do the complete opposite. Now to figure out why conversions increased when using no controls.

Things that make you go hmmm....
