Profiting from an autoblog gossip-rag?

I accidentally made a website with fairly good traffic

Last year I was hired to write an ebook that related to building an autoblog, so I built one so that I could put in the necessary pictures of it's construction.

Anyway, I have checked on it and it's got an average of 6k monthly viewers. As it's essentially a gossip-rag, what should I do with it?

Any idea if it would be worth anything if it isn't monitisable? Probably not, so how should I monitise it?

Has anyone else found a good way of profiting from a gossip-rag? If so, how?

The big problem I foresee is that as it's just SEO traffic looking for information on some celebrities latest social or fashion blunders, they aren't necessarily interested in buying anything.

thats not realy a problem 6 k of traffic is quite a lot i wish i had that much

ok to make money with susch a site i would suggest that you sign in analetics account on your blog to see what kind of traffic you get

method 1: promote a offer that is attractive for your demograpics of the traffic big banner on the side should do the trick if you get mostly us traffic iwould sugest a cpa offer

method 2 promote songs from itunes from the celebertys that get a lot of attention of the media

method 3 you can sell ad space

method 4 ppv sites ( tough every time they go to a section of the site there opens a window) and you get paid per vieuw but i dont thats it is gonna make to much money because ppv is mostly les than 10 cent a view but in best case senario it can still make you some money

A celebrity/gossip type site is not very east to monetize...I've read others saying that and I have a couple of my own and most people are just looking as you say....I tried different methods and the one that worked for me was Komoona Komoona and I have gotten some income from it.

I use Wordpress for my sites [not sure how it works for other types] and they have a plugin that gives you a widget that shows adsense ads but puts a blurb at the bottom of the ad that tells people they can buy that space for their own ads. It worked for me....

But be warned that google may not like your autoblog and if you have adsense on there they could ban your account... note that my sites were autoblogs I was testing with various methods/plugins that drew visitors and I didn't use adsense on it until I tried Komoona. I had to find a way not to waste that traffic and I hoped I would get an advertiser before google did do something which is what happened...

Note this info from a recent google adsense blog email...

"Copying content from other sites, auto-generating content, or rewriting content from other publications and monetizing these types of pages without permission or the necessary legal rights to do so is considered a violation of our program policies"

Only you know what type of content you have so make your own decision..and keep in mind that google is the one who decides how they view your site/content.

Celeb, gossip sites are very hard to generate revenue from unless you're driving some serious traffic ($100K uniques/mo). I've had several and never made as money as niche sites with less traffic.

I would flip it on Flippa and build another in the same fashion then flip that one too. It sounds like you have a method for building these types of sites with decent traffic. There's almost always someone on Flippa looking for sites with existing traffic.

    Hi Lee,

Yes I can't be bothered jumping to Google's silly rules.

It's all legally acceptable content that is taken from RSS feeds. You can't put something up for syndication and then complain when it's syndicated.

In this case I've even talked to the sites I get the feeds from and they are happy with what I set up, as they say I am sending them quite a bit of traffic and giving them a ton of PR4 backlinks. One of them recently asked if I wanted a backlink to keep me doing it lol.

I'm crossing Google ads off, as I won't deal with people that won't explain any problems they have with my site.

I shall look into itune songs.

    Hi Chall,

PPV sounds vaguely interesting but I'm not sure if pop-unders would affect my rankings. I'm getting traffic from facebook, twitter and all the main search engines. It appears that y syndicated content shows up faster in the search engines than the main sites, so I don't want to mess that up.

    Cheers,

    Hi Chrome,

I've never sold a website and have no experience with filppa. From what I'd head though, the sale price is tied to the revenue generated.

As I've never tried to monetize it I wonder if it even has any value?

      Hey Colin,

Selling on Flippa is really easy. You do have to pay a listing fee ($19 + 5% success fee).

A site's revenue isn't always tied to the value. However, It helps if you can verify your traffic analytics as Flippa has a feature which allows you to upload your Google Analytics. Many buyers are very interested in sites with traffic especially when you upload verified stats.

It's worth a try...or you can continue testing different ways of monetizing.
