Best wordpress theme for an internet marketing blog?

What are your favorite themes for an IM blog?

Free or paid?

Can you have a blog using optimizepress, or is it just for squeeze, salespages?

What other plugins do you use for your IM blog?

Thanks,

Ivelin

I wish I had a dollar for every time the topic of "favorite theme" came up here.

I like the Genesis platform for WordPress with a range of child themes. Go to StudioPress dot com for working examples.

    Good question.
For me it depends. For my "sniper sites" I just use free themes from the wordpress templates. If I'm building a site for a client I use premium themes. Most premium themes tend to be coded better for better SEO but if you are building a bunch of sites, it could get expensive buying a premium theme for each site. You can get one premium theme and use it on all your sites if it is a pretty well rounded theme and will work in different niches.

It's like the question "what is the best movie?"
I personally come always back to "Thesis"..although there might better themes out now...but i still like Thesis.

I really like the theme called, "simplish," because its exactly what the title says, simple. You can customize it to your liking but hands its very clear and clean.

Like GeorgR and others here said, you're asking a very general question.

If for example your blog will be video rich, then there are themes that focus on that. They include support for Youtube, Vimeo and all the players, plus allow you to place a player inline or inside a lightbox.

Visit themeforest.net and check out the various categories in the Wordpress Themes section. There is for example a subsection just for simple and "minimalist" themes. Check out the various subsections and the theme demos. Once you start looking thru the demos, you'll figure out what you want/need pretty quickly.

      Good luck!

ONCE UPON A TIME there was a Warrior named Bob. He was sad. And frustrated. You see, Warrior Bob spent every last nickel on Internet Marketing e-books. But nothing panned out. No traffic. No sales. He was one sad Bob. Then one day Bob found a bottle. He rubbed it and out came a Genie who granted him 3 wishes. For Wish #1 Bob asked for a pet Dragon. Wish Granted. For Wish #2, Bob wanted Warriors' websites seen by 53 million TV viewers, for under $5 per broadcast. The Genie said... (click here)

In my own experience, Optimize Press is weak for blog stuff, but absolutely ROCKS for marketing stuff like video squeeze pages.

Check out my blog and decide for yourself if you can use OptimizePress. I absolutely love it. I use it on 2 of my main blogs and anything for sales and getting leads, no question about it, im using OptimizePress.

Only flaws I see and I hate this about it is theres no footer setup. I like to have a footer so I can put links and stuff down there. I had to pay a coder to add a footer section to my blog..

Also, the sidebar is not wide enough. I'm getting a PHP coder to look into widening my sidebar to 300px but as of right now, I can really only fit 250 - 270px ad squares in there.

Granted they still some work to do on their blogging theme but as for the squeeze pages and sales letters, I'll use nothing else.

Reason being...Product comes out..I want to market it..

Instead of buying a whole new domain and setting up a new website, I create a squeeze page on my site, remove all headers and navigation so there there is no distinction with my site and drive traffic to it and build a list. I do this on all my sites.

If you want, you can buy a domain and just redirect it to your squeeze page. Most people dont look at the address bar.

Its really all in what you want to do with your site. I usually install a theme and go to work on the PHP to customize it and get it to my liking.

Best of luck and hope this helps

    Thesis is a great.
If you can't afford it, but have the ability to tweak themes yourself you can check out NeoClassical.

I agree with other warriors optimize press is great for sales pages and squeeze pages but not so good for blogs.
I like to use artisteer to make blogs as its unique but yet simple. Its a paid software but you can create your own custom templates with it and its super easy to use.

Why hasn't anyone mentioned Profits Theme? I hear from many this is even better than Optimize Press.

My number one choice would be Clickbump... At least with it I can "re-skin" it numerous ways without affecting the underpinnings of my site and changing the base theme.

I second the Artisteer recommendation. I have my graphic designer set up all my Wordpress themes with Artisteer now so we control the code.

Had a few bad experiences with some "free" themes that had garbage in the code.

I've found Elegant Themes to be a pretty good deal. Forty-ish bucks for seventy odd themes.

The downfall I'd say is that it is an annual subscription which buys future updates and support. Hypothetically you could download them all in your first year and then drop the sub, but no future support that way.

OptimizePress is pretty flexible. It can be used for a blog.

Version 1.5 is due to be released pretty soon which has a bunch of nice new features.

For straight blogging I aim for excellent readability and semantics.

Thesis is great but it's a little on the complex side.

    A couple of great alternatives:

The Presswork framework is free, and has some outstanding childthemes available. One of the things I love about Presswork which confused me at first; you make all of the changes using the toolbox on the frontend of the website rather than the backend.

Vigilance theme from the The Theme Foundry is also great out of the box. Excellent typography, and great ad placement, few frills, but highly customizable and very solid.

My favorite theme is Thesis but for total IM I love Optimize press or Profits theme.
Your going to need a lot less plugins with the last two themes compared to thesis.
