How Do you Write a Really Good Cover Letter?

2 replies
Hello,

Recently , I've been doing a lot of Freelancing on Odesk and similar sites. I was just wondering how do you write a really neat Cover Letter. I try to make it personal , and I talk about my self and what I do. I think Clients like that.

If you provide your Tips & Tricks for this , it would be really beneficial for me and the Forum.

Thanks
-Lewis

    I'm not sure what you mean. Are you talking about clients hiring you to write cover letters?

    I'm assuming that you are.

    OK, a cover letter tells the reader WHY, and summarizes whatever you're sending to the reader.

    So, let's say you're sending a proposal, in response to a business's Requests for Proposals.

    In your cover letter, you;

    * State briefly who you are (ONE sentence);

    * Summarize your proposal in a paragraph (no more than FIVE sentences). Include your biggest sales point;

    * Add anything that needs adding. This will normally be your best sales point: "You can hire us with confidence because we've brought in our our last three completed projects on time, and under budget."

    * Tell them what to do to contact you 24x7;

    * Close.

    Remember that a cover letter is SHORT -- it should never be longer than ONE page. Shorter is better. You want them to read the material you're referring to in the letter.

    Everyone's busy. They should be able to read your cover letter at a glance. If they can't, you lose -- they'll never read anything else, either.

      Thanks , I used this and it got me hired. I'm not kidding it did!

      You should write a WSO on this? You could get some nice sales numbers.
