Which marketer do you follow

I am looking to follow a couple internet markets and learn a bit. I am looking for people who will be staying up to date. A plus would be if they have a couple products that can help me start my journey. My question is who do you guys follow?

Don't follow someone's success though getting motivation and inspiration is good but following someone's exact method to success fairly foolishness , Take your skills and go with it and finally you will get achievement. Steve Jobs is the best example of this i mean "Always standout from the crowd"

I like your overall message. I'll read somethings from the big marketers, but I try and figure out the best way to do things on my own. I take the current best practices and try to tweak them to squeeze even more results out of it. If you are just following what someone else has done you'll always be one step behind.

Also, Steve Jobs modeled early Apple after HP. He idolized HP and their business model but then he eventually came into his own and created his own best practices.

I tend to agree with this. Each marketer has certain strengths and you'll find you'll borrow a little bit of wisdom from each of them, if you're smart, and integrate it all into your own style. Above all be yourself and be true to yourself.

This is what you get when you ask a question like that; Random names with little to no background information of what kind of marketing they do exactly.

What's it exactly you want to follow? Do you lean to a specific aspect of Internet marketing? if so, search for people in that area.

    2 things:

    1. IM is such a broad subject that it's tough to give names without knowing what part of IM that you are interested in. For example Pat Flynn is an excellent blogger that I always recommend that people follow but that may not be what you're looking for.

    2. Don't just find an expert and read what they tell you to do. Instead, study what they actually do and mimic that. Join their mailing list and figure out what makes them so great. There is no need to reinvent the wheel, just find out what other people are succeeding with and try to do it a little bit better.

    Best of luck to you.

Are you asking what marketer should you follow?

If so...after searching 4 years, (And learning from and studying from well over 50 different Guru's and knuckleheads) I finally believe I have a good answer worth sharing...

      1.) Establish Criteria

The first thing you need to know is what is your goal?
If your goal is to build a lifestyle business or a big business?
Are you extroverted or introverted? If you are introverted your business model is not going to have the back end of coaching
Do you want to work with client or not? If not there is zero sense in moving the free line

Start with that criteria for choosing a teacher! Then ask...

      2. Would I want to be like them?
      3. Do they have successful students?
      4. Would I want to be like those students?
      5. Has the expert made the subject simple to understand and apply? (Remember, complexity stems from lack of understanding.)

      2.)Learn the fundamentals.

In persuading online (what marketing and SELLING online really is) there are only a few fundamentals yet hundreds of techniques.

There are a few crayons (fundamentals) and hundreds of boxes (techniques). You see, the thing is once you understand thedcrayons you can apply them in any box (twitter, direct mail, video marketing, digg, etc.) In fact there is a new box that shows up almost every week.

Forget the bright shiny object. Want to learn Product Launch Formula for less than $20 instead of $2,000, pick up robert Caladini's book influence. 80% of the course is Jeff showing you how to apply Caladini's six principles to online marketing.

3.)Learn from the Masters and your mastermind

No disrespect to Frank Kern, Chris Farrell, Lee McIntyre but he is merely parroting other people's information. ALL these internet guys do is study the marketing masters and apply it to today. Personally in my opinion studying these guys is a waste of time and money. Why not go straight to the source yourself (And spend far less money)? Who are the masters?

      Claude Hopkins
      Robert Collier
      Gene Schwartz
      John Caples
      Gary Halbert
Dan Kennedy (Who Frank Kern takes almost all of his content from)
      Gary Bencivenga
      Vic Schwab
      Jay Abraham
      Ben Saurez

All of their material can be found on amazon, most of it for less than $20!

      Next,

Your mastermind.... this is really all you need to stay current. Between that and taking ACTION this is all you need

      Hope that helps

Honestly? To me anybody that has put themselves out there enough to actually release a WSO is somebody you can learn from. Not just the content, but the fact that they took the initiative and had the drive to get up and really give it a shot. That's actually really hard to do... but on topic Justin Popovic has incredibly sound advice and I can recommend him 100%. Very smart, down to Earth guy.

I don't know how to answer this question. I've been learning about IM since 2006...usually in all the wrong places. I say that because it's nearly 2012, and I'm really no more successful today than back then. Most of you would probably say...quit, this isn't for you. I know better.

I've been doing this on my own without the benefit of a mentor. I'm at a loss as to how one gets a mentor. These people must get a thousand requests a day from needy wannabes. That's not a group I aspire to be a part of. After beating around in forums (these and others) since 2006, I've seen it all.

I think I finally have an idea where I want to focus. I've got the best site I've ever had...still a work in progress. I guess it sounds like I'm too proud to ask for help. It's not that at all. I'm pretty accepting of advice and constructive criticism. I just don't know how to approach a marketer for help over and over and over.

I follow several people. I like to watch what they do and learn from their methods - even if I may not do exactly what they do, I can still put my own twist on things (or simply be inspired).

      This isn't a comprehensive list, but it's a start:

      BIG Mike
      Dennis Becker
      Rachel Rofe
      Gene Pimentel
      Jenn Dize
      Garry Sayer
      Ed Akehurst
      Dave Hughes
      Martha Mayo
      Michelle Spiva
      Dr. Ben Adkins
      Tim Castleman

I follow people who aren't selling any info products to other IM'rs. I find that most people who are selling IM products generally are not making serious money doing real IM work. The guys making huge bank in IM aren't the ones with 5,000+ posts, unless the money they make is off of you buying their stuff. It makes sense if you think about it too--if you were making hundreds of thousands or millions per year, wouldn't you be off on your yacht enjoying time with friends and family instead of posting your latest list of "32 tips guaranteed to make you $2,347 in 24 hrs?"

Find the guys that have posted something truly awesome for free on the forum, then stalk their posts. That's where you'll find the gold and it will help you avoid the junk promoted by people profiting off of IM'rs.

I follow a few marketers and like them for different reasons. While I enjoy knowing the black hat ways some people market I do not like or subscribe to "hit and run" marketing. Basically this is where marketers sell something using fake names and then disappear only to pop up under another name to sell something else and disappear.

I use my real name and contact information and I mentor from guys that do the same. So I am not going to list those "hit and run" markets no matter how much money they are able to scam off people.

My all time favorite Ethical Marketer is John Thornhill because everything I have bought from John has been top quality and John over delivers on everything. I have been able to talk one on one to John twice since buying some of his products and he has responded to a number of emails. I know responding to emails may not sound like that big of a deal but you would be suprised how many marketers do not respond to email or help desk tickets.

Dave Nicholson and John Thornhill work together on a lot of offers and I like all their products. I learned a lot about creating products and preparing my website and offers from John and Dave.

Russell Bruson is my next favorite. Russell understands not only internet marketing but marketing in general. He can break it down to what works and what doesn't work and why. He also is very good at understanding what use to work and how to tweak some good old stratigies to make them work again. I have been able to meet Russell twice this year at his live events and he is awesome. I recorded his events on my flipVideo and I have watch them over and over, I stripped out the audio and I have them on my iPod. Russell has something new coming out in Jan that I think is going to be a game changer. Get on Russells list and watch for it.

Lee McIntyre is another great one. I think Lee has mentored with John Thronhill and Russell Brunson which makes sense why I like him. Lee is a super high level big money guy. Lee has built his business rellay big really quickly and he tests everything he does, then he documents it so he can outsource the process. As with John and Russell he spells everything out in his products. If you have a website and some products and your hanging around trying to get to the next level get on Lee's list and get some of his products.

The "Job Crusher Crew" Eric, Bill and Matt are great real deal guys. Their products are direct to the point and no fluff. They spell it out in a way we can all use and more importantly they are using the tatcis they teach about. You could just buy "Job Crusher" and have everything you need to implement an online business.

Charles Kirkland and Todd Gross are guys I have just started following but I really like what I have seen so far. Charles is from South Carolina and I am in Atlanta so I get his southern "Charm" as he unknowingly insults most anyone not in IM, "Bless his heart!". You know what is the best thing about Charles, he openly admits where he has failed and that really helps me understand that it is ok for me to fail as long as I continue to get up and try again. Charles really filled in a lot of the blanks for me. I am using his "WSO Super Affiliate" and John Thornhills "WSO Domination" to put togehter my own WSO.

I have also bought a few products from Omar Martin, Liz Tomey, and Chris Farrell and was very happy with all their products.

I have also bought a lot of products that absolutly sucked!! When I finished I thought this is just an ad to get me to buy thier next product or "No duh" everyone knows that. So buyer beware.

    Hope this helps,
    Anthony.

I follow Tiffany Dow. Not only her blog postings are fun to read, they are very valuable and inspiring. And I'm proud that she's an ethical marketer who treated her subscribers like gold and doesn't fall into junk pitches. Wish more marketers are like her.

Another were Alex Wayo and Kim Roach. They're straight to the point and giving full of value.

Every successful marketer have something to teach you,
      directly or indirectly.

But as some other guys already said, IM is big and you
must determine exactly what you want to do.

That's crucial. Knowing exactly what you want to do
      long term.

Once you know that, focus on 1-2 marketers who are good
at that particular area. It doesn't have to be top 'gurus'.
For example if someone has developed a 6 figure business
based on blogging, follow that guy (if you happen to choose
blogging). Not someone who 'succeeded' yesterday, though.
Only if the guy/gal has been making 6 figures for at least
3-4 years (preferably even longer), that's your man.

Read their stuff, but more importantly spy on every sigle
part and aspect of their business, analyse in details every
step they are doing, like CIA, everything. It takes time but
once you have the picture (the "Know How") then it's quite
      easy to do the same.
Join their mentoring/coaching program if they have one.
Extract the gold from their mentoring/coaching.

Clone their business and marketing machine, just dress it
      differently. That works.

But the key is to focus on 1 sigle 'thing' that you want to
do for a living, long term.

Well, I don't really follow anyone these days but I do have some that I listen to on a regular basis and have respect for. Based on my experience, if you new to the business Paul Myers would be someone that I would listen to on a the regular basis. As a matter of fact he is a member of this forum.

However there are a couple that I am very close to and buy just about everything that they sell because in the past it has really helped me make money. But I'm not going to make it public. If you want to know who they are drop me a PM and I will tell you.

My reason for not making names public is because they have plenty of customers and I'm sure they could use lots more but I don't have permission to give you their names. And I wouldn't do that without their permission but would disclose it privately.

You got a lot of answers. I see names like Frank Karen, but if you want to buy some products from them, they could be a bit expensive. They are great marketers and it's worth the time to study their sales funnel and all what they do to see what's working now. But if you want to get some products that would help you to start, I recommend Peter Garety. He's got several products as WSOs and they are high quality and not so expensive. He teaches things up to date as well. Hope it helps

You really can't go wrong with the recommendations everyone is sharing in this thread. A few of my favorites are Kim Roach, Howie Schwartz, Jeff Johnson, Dan Kennedy. At the end of the day you find out that when you really start making money that it comes down to YOU and how you put yourself into the marketplace by taking action. So my All-Time Favorite for marketing and the purpose at hand is...
