[Poll]New Creative Twist to Monetizing, with Microtransactions and Rapid Prototyping

Hello Warriors,

When it comes to making money online I've had my hands in a lot of pies. I started off with ebay in 2003, while I continued my education in the animation world and that led me to affiliate sales, adsense in 2005, microtransactions in 2007 with sites like secondlife and imvu and mobile app creation in 2009. Though it was never easy, I've been able to clear over 60k with money I've made online. It's exciting and surreal when it works and disappointing and discouraging when it doesn't.

I've made most of my money with networks like imvu.com where I would average about 500 $.10 transactions a day for years, there was a lot of work involved for the first three months (learning the system mainly) but after the system was in place I was able to pay rent and have food with the money I made (I sold my account last year for a lump sum so from 2007-2010 I made 40k with imvu alone).

This is stuff that I have lived with and done for years and I was wondering if these networks and forms of monetization were new to you guys and if there is any desire for more knowledge how to get into the world of digital content creation and how to take advantage of technology like shapeways.com, kickstarter.com as well as imvu.com and how to monetize from them.

Pretty interesting, I'm glad to see that 3D printing is on the board. That model has been used within a few companies, such as kraftwurx, sculpteo, ponoko, and imaterialize also help this movement. As well as open source 3D places like thingiverse. There is definitely some money to be made as an artist, just not too much.

Thanks for the contribution. I personally know there are lots of ways artists can monetize final products in an automated way to make lots of money. Just like anything else it comes down to marketing.

Interesting stuff. I have only heard of second life and kickstarter. I know about second life because we used it for my psychology class lol. Pretty interesting stuff. Didn't know it could be monetized though.
