This surely sucks. I think this is a bad move by Yahoo!
Now, I'm just waiting for Bing to have similar features.

What's the best backlink checker to use now, that doesn't require you to sign up?

What will SEO quake use now to show backlink data? As the backlink data its showing now is totally off.

      You serious?

God I thought it was the most convoluted piece of garbage out!

You should be able to simply type in your URL and get results without having to jump through membership and signup hoops.

Another Majestic SEO fan here.... for me, it's worth the membership sign up (I signed up for the free version) as it provides very comprehensive backlinking information, which I have personally found very useful. Signing up literally takes less than a minute, and now I use the bulk backlink checker religiously... love that I can look at backlink information for multiple sites and not just one at a time.

I doubt they have the resources of Yahoo/Microsoft to be able to run their crawlers and data servers for free access, and why should they? It is quite easy to use once logged in.

YSE has been out of date for quite some time now. Majestic And Open Site Explorer provide a more up to date account of a sites's backlinks history. Majestic seems to be more thorough although OSE's metrics provide a quick overview of the quality of a domain. I won't miss YSze one bit!

Hmmm, maybe I should revisit it? It was a while ago I looked. Seems you guys are happy with it.

I got an email from SEO Spyglass this morning about this. They're not affected by this but have done all the prep work to limit the impact on clients who had been using the service.

yep spyglass still finds backlinks as before - no significant changes detected so they must have found some sort of replacement to compensate for yse

I was VERY upset at the news first. But then provider of SEO Spyglass confirmed that the tool was gonna be working just fine. Like, they are almost done building their own database or something. And, since this is the tool I'm using... Ok, let's see how that turns out.

So, what I'm saying is, if anyone is looking for a YSE alternative, may wanna try Spyglass. There is a free version, but I'm using Pro.

It's bad that we lost a common tool for checking the number of backlinks. I simply used Yahoo Site Explorer to check my backlinks. Now it's already gone, but Majestic SEO is the best alternative solution for me.
