USA Bank Accounts For UK Marketers

Is there a reliable USA bank that I can open from the UK without actually visiting the US?

All suggestions are welcome. I'd especially like to hear from people in the UK who have opened bank accounts in the US.

Thanks :p

Without travelling to the US I'd say its almost impossible....

But if someone comes up with something it will certainly be interesting!

as somebody who has personal bank accounts in a number of countries i think you need to ensure there isn't going to be a tax problem of the money hitting a us bank account.

Don't know if this helps but you can open a dollar account in the UK at citibank, my in-laws have one. It's under uk regs but say if someone transfers money from the us, you get a bank transfer charge but not high fees like you would going from a us to a regular uk sterling bank.

It isn't impossible, but it took us probably 9 months worth of filling in forms, calling different banks in America, getting different answers.

Eventually we got an account, and now have an account through Chase Bank... but it was afwully nice of them recently to change our account (and I believe all foreign accounts) from something like $12 a month, to $250 a MONTH... great, thanks Chase!

Not so much: it's actually a British company now, with its headquarters in London.

It's an international "holding company" whose name derives from what was originally the Hong-Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation, but it's one of the world's biggest international banks, and owns what were countless other national banks, which it's gradually acquired over the years and decades, such as the former "Midland Bank" in the UK.

    Hi,

I'm not trying to promote the ebook in my signature.

I am a Brit, living in Australia and am a non-U.S. resident but formed a U.S. based business, which involved me opening up a U.S. business acount and a heap of other stuff.

If you want to try for a U.S. bank I suggest, like the post above, to approach HSBC and also various American banks with branches near you.

Remember, when you ask most will likely say NO but, do not take this for an answer. Get to speak to a small business advisor or branch manager and ask them what exactly you need to provide them with in order for them to open up an account for you somewhere in the U.S.

I think that is the magic key, if you have someone on the ground in the USA who can deal with the banks, nearly impossible things become easy.

@Gautam: I have been following some posts and bumped into one of your replies here in relation to setting up US bank account. I would be be glad if you could throw some light and help me.

I got an LLC with EIN setup by a company called Bizilings. However, now we need a US business checking account (need this to get a US payment gateway from companies like stripe.com). I understand that if I need to open a bank account, I will have to personally visit a US bank to do so, else I have to appoint a US person to be one of the officers for the company who can do it for me. So, while my Uncle, a US citizen is living in India, I will have to wait for him to visit US until this can be done.

Is there a way out on how I can get a US bank account from India itself? You seem to have much knowledge about this and you are from India too.

In the UK the HSBC always advertises itself as 'the worlds local bank' and has adverts with little girls selling lemonade made from lemons she sourced from overseas, she even takes all currencies from customers who buy her lemonade. I bet if you went into a UK branch of the HSBC and asked to open an account in a USA branch they would say 'we can't do that'.
