Paypal- Launch freezing prevention?

Hi Warriors,

If you are about to launch a new product, and anticipate a high number of transactions, how can you prevent Paypal from freezing or limiting your ac?

Anyone had this problem before?

    Hi Jenna,

I'd give PayPal a call, and tell them what you expect to happen. You can get their phone number from paypal.com

They seem much more accomodating when they are "in the loop"

Otherwise, they may do the unthinkable..

It can't harm to give them a call (not email, phone call) and keep them updated..

    Hope this helps

    Bruce

Yeah, I've heard of people callin' ahead of time to let 'em know what's about to happen. It may not be necessary depending on your previous transaction records but it's still a call I'd be makin'... just in case.

Best of luck with the launch.

    Hi Jenna...

Paypal only freezes accounts like this if an unexpected amount of transactions or many start rushing through..

Give Paypal a call and explain to them what your plans are and what to expect, this usually keeps things cool.

    Peace

I guess dont use paypal in the first place, use a service such as moneybookers or 2co.com etc.

A simple phone call is not going to do the trick in every scenario.

Yes, it will help and you should definitely call but don't think you are in the clear just because you have communicated your expectations to them.

The truth is it will vary upon how much money you pull in, and how fast. They will also take into consideration your "account history". How long have you been doing business with them? How many refunds do you get? How much of a increase in business are you all the sudden making right now. And what kind of niche or service are you providing.

All these things they will take into account before deciding whether or not to hold your funds.

I know people that have called Paypal and were totally transparent about their actions and they still had their funds frozen for 6 months. Then there are guys like Kern who shoved a million in a 1/2 hour through Paypal and not a single problem.

The big problem I see with Paypal is if they do freeze the funds, are you still able to compensate your affiliates while you wait it out to get your money?

    It's something to think about.

I aggree with the Moffatt man on this one, I just wish there were a comparable alternative with immediate access to your cash, issues debit cards (with mastercard logo) without the willy nilly account freezings and all the other restrictions.

Since I've never done anything big with Paypal, here's a few questions:

        1. How fast does money hit your bank account (typically)?

        2. Can't you just removed (or transfer) the money from account as it comes in, to another account so they can't touch it?

I've heard of people pulling the funds out ASAP so they don't have to (or worry less) about a freeze.

Troy, the money goes to your PalPay account but you can transfer it to your bank account at any time. It usually takes a day or two to show up in your bank account.

So the "day or two" could be time for them to freeze some amount...

Once it's in your bank account, they can't pull it back out, can they? I'm sure that would be some legal stuff. I know you give them access to remove and/or place funds into it.

I spoke to my friend (James Martell) that does a lot of Paypal and I think it comes down to this: don't suddenly do a launch that sends out a red flag. Have some history and have a great product to keep refunds low or nil. (Like Jason Moffatt said.)

I'm pretty sure they can pull it back out. I believe that is in their TOS.

This is how so many people got the shaft by the whole Stormpay fiasco.

There will also be many other unseen factors that play a roll.

The country origin of payments, multiple purchases on a single credit card, or the attempted use of stolen CC numbers.

Most of this will be beyond your control, no matter how established your account.

Just make sure to call Paypal first, and withdraw the money often.

Try their debit card, no fees for store and other purchases.

Try to add some additional payment options as well, such as Google checkout.

                Good luck!

Jenna you should look into another payment method and stay away from PayPal. I once got my PP account frozen and had to fax them whole bunch of stuff like credit card statement and bank statements to be able to withdraw my money, then I had to wait a whole week before they unfreezed it. They ever tried to get me to send them a copy of my social security number but I refused and told them that I live in Ontario and it is illegal here for any company to request a person's social security number unless the individual is an employee of that company. Paypal dose not seem to believe in the constitution and to them a person is presumed guilty until proven innocent, instead of the other way around. And PayPal plays the judge, jury, and prosecutor.

When your account gets frozen what stops working?

    Can you still accept payments?
    Can you still issue refunds?

    Cheers,

I apparently am just lucky with PayPal because I have done over 10K a day and have never had a problem with them. Just call them and let them know what is going in.

      It depends..

Sometimes you cant send money out, but can still receive them

Sometimes its a full limitation, where you can receive and send money

    Hi,

My friend had a problems with paypal, so if something does go wrong they are impossible to deal with, hopefully either paypal will improve or there will be a new payment processor that steals its crown.

I keep hearing about these "paypal account managers." I've googled the term, but am getting very little information about it. Could someone tell me what exactly they are and how I would get one?

I'm actually scared to process high volumes through paypal in fear of a freeze so if it's preventable by having an account manager, then I'd like to have one if I could.

    Thanks for your help!

I did a 21k mailshot back in Nov 2007 and processed about £18k through Paypal in the space of 2 months and didn't have any problems. However I have heard of others who have had problems so maybe the advice of contacting them beforehand is sound advice if you are worried

In your scenario, it makes sense.

If results are drawn out over time, that's better than an explosive amount of sales.

Unfortunately, if you are just starting out, you are stuck with the evil Paypal. Calling will not do anything because their computers are programmed to freeze your account under some unknown criteria. And when I say unknown, not even paypal reps know!
There are no alternatives for a "small" person starting out so call them anyway and hope for the best.

Take the advice of people who have walked the walk and talk the talk such as Jmo and others (including myself)

I've had tens of thousands of dollars go through my paypal account, and the only time they froze it (and yes we had called), was when $20,000 went thru in 5 hours.

We were still able to receive money, give refunds etc, we just couldn't withdraw.

It was all cleared up within hours, they asked us for evidence of what we were doing etc we gave it and we were fine.

      Kim

      edit

@Marian don't read stories from that stupid paypal sucks website, some of them are years old
Paypal is fine as long as you abide by the rules. It's inportant to let them know what is happening, and unfortunately there are scammers in every country so I shouldn't worry to much on that score.

Best way is not to use paypal. A lot of people have had difficulty with them, and paypal is not known for their "service".

Anyways, good luck. PS, nice profile picture

ok...i've just read some paypal stories and I am scared.

Since I don't have a long history with paypal and I didn't move large sums of money trough it I'm kinda worried for my next product...since I want to do a launch and if they freeze my funds I wont be able to pay all the affiliates and stuff.

Another thing is that I'm living in a country that in their eyes is full of scammers...

Could anyone give some examples of at what amount of money can they freeze your funds, or anything like that?

With one of my launches I called paypal and the hosting company beforehand to let them know that there might be a sudden burst of payments and bandwidth and they were very helpful to explain but it was just to let them know incase they thought anything fraudulent was going on.

    OK,

To alleviate a lot of these 'I heard' stories, let me say this.

I have many clients who all use PayPal. Reason being is that you have full control over your money and can transfer at will.

Yes, there has been occasion where a couple have done a big launch, had a influx of cash to the account, had it frozen, made a phone call and was back in business in a few hours. Both were told by a real person to contact them the next time let them know in advance what was geting ready to happen and their account would be 'flagged' for the increased activity.

    Problem solved.

With PayPal, every once in a awhile you will get an over zealous, trigger happy employee (usually new) that can get ahead of themselves, but a phone call can quickly solve things.

All payment processors are going to have their moments.

    Thanks,

    John
