Is $5864 in sales good for 23, 234 visitors?

Let me start off by saying I am new to IM and putting together a model based largely on what MYOB, Alexa, and Annie recommend, and am grateful for the amount of information they share.

Having said that, I got an email from one of MYOB services, which is very interesting indeed, that had this in it as a part of sales literature for a product offering:

The website I mentioned above recently received 23,234 targeted visits in just 1 month. On average, those visitors convert into more than $5,864.41 in sales every month.

I edited out some of the text, because the main question I have is this.

That comes out to be about $.25 in sales per visitor, most of whom came to the site as a result of article submissions and email optins from sites across the Internet, according to the rest of the information, who I might add is from a very well respected fellow.

So is that a good ratio? Can someone new expect to see sales of $.25 if they build a list of size, which would seem to be a very large list indeed?

From my perspective it is exceptional, I get over 60,000+ unique visits to my site and earn barely $600 per month. Though I don't specifically affiliate or sell anything, I think the earnings are fantastic depending on how much work you put into it. Does it "sell itself" or are you putting 50-60 hours a week into the machine to generate that income every month?

He says it is on automatic pilot. But the author of the book is selling a book based on a system which gives him these numbers. At a 50% commission rate we are looking at less than $3,000 per month. I do not see the value in spending the time necessary to create that revenue based on how much time it would take to build that much traffic.

One other note, and not to get into your business here, but with that many visitors couldn't you do a lot more to monetize that traffic? Or is it just something that is not important to you right now?

It really depends on what niche he is in. For example, I have an MMA Tube site that gets 800 uniques a day and I have yet to find a good way to monetize it. Tube visitors just aren't buyers, they are there to consume the content and then move on. If I had that many visitors in say the MMO niche then I would be laughing
