Should i spend money on designing my blog?

I have seen some of the blogs in my niche and their blogs are really nice but that blog is up for like a few year already.

Can anyone suggest whether should i invest in designing my website or wait till I have profits in my blog first?

It's better to earn profits 1st, then put your earnings back into the business. IMO having a beautiful blog does not mean more sales.

I vote for yes as well. Having a professional design can help with your branding and conversion (if the designer knows about)

It depends on how much you want to spend...
Personally, I wouldn't bother until you know it's all going to work and make you money. Do it yourself as that will teach you and save you money. Then you have a new skill also...
Don't spend money if you don't have to.

A lot of people don't care about what a blog looks like, but a lot of people do. I'm one that does. Ugly blogs look unprofessional to me and if your blog says unprofessional to me, I'm going to assume that any product you are promoting is equally unprofessional.

    First impressions are important.

  • your blog is a little bland but content is more important.

Its really not that much of an investment to create a decent looking blog these days, premium themes are $30-40 and will do the job fine.

A premium template from themeforest will cost you up to $35 and that is not a whole lot of money.

First try out this niche and if the site is actually paying off itself.

I've just actually answered this same line to another post...
Users don't immediately read pages...they scan them...This means you have to come up with a creative mix of language, images, layout and color to make your material stand out and shine.

You know, I've found that typography can be just as important to a blog as the way it looks. There are plenty of blogs that don't have great flashy images, but just space out text in a way that's so beautiful that you've got to pay attention to it.

I think your current theme is OK, but there are plenty of people selling nice themes for cheap. Cheap!

How beautiful is google.com, warriorforum, facebook websites? these websites are not so beautiy in designing and has no graphics attractions, but still they are ranking high on the net.

my point is this, you don't have to worry so much on how beautiful our site should look. in as much as it solves a particular problem people are facing and you work on the getting traffics, then you are in. that doesn't mean you should have a well designed blog...it just not the main thing.

    cheers.

Personally, I'd step back and formulate a comprehensive plan. In order to do that, you 'may' have to do alot of research regarding how to best execute the many elements of a blog. Run your ideas by friends, family, and/or this forum and work from there. A professional blog design is just one part of an online branding development....if you don't do it immediately, eventually you'll want/need to take that plunge. Couple that with powerful and captivating content, and you can develop a real force to reckon with in your niche.

Make the changes when you can afford to, but in the meantime makes things presentable whilst asking yourself if you'd buy from a site which looks like yours.

  • I think the best would be getting more visitors and getting known in general for the quality of your blog. Then you can grab an high quality custom theme for your blog.
But make it with your blog's earnings, not from zero.

    See you,

Brand yourself early on. So yes go with the designing, however, only do so if you can really invest!

    Good luck.

Forget design, until you have traffic and conversions -- in other words, until you're making money.

I don't know what platform you're using, but let's say you're using WordPress. The default Twenty Ten theme is easy to customize with your own header, and you can do it yourself.

More to the point, Twenty Ten works with popular plug ins. If you start fiddling with your theme, you'll end up with plugs ins which break your theme -- that's guaranteed.

All that counts on any blog for at least the first year is LOTS of CONTENT.

Spend all your time and energy on creating content, so that you get traffic and start making money.
