Does anyone else have trouble cashing Clickbank checks?

When I go to the bank to cash my clickbank check the teller always has to call the bank manager. They are always very hesitant to cash my check.

Now mind you, I have only received three clickbank checks in the past two months and they have been in very small amounts....the last two were less than $50.

So when I start making large clickbank checks (which I know I will soon) I wonder if the bank will refuse to cash them? Can they refuse to cash them?

Is there any way to prove to the bank that these checks are legit? Has anyone ever had a bank refuse to cash their check?

I know they are just being cautious because of all the fraudulent checks that are being passed around. But I don't want to have any trouble when I attempt to cash bigger checks.

I think most banks are somewhat cautious *cashing* checks. Depositing them is usually no problem.

Do you cash other checks and have a better experience? Are you well known to your bank? That makes a difference as well.

I cash my paycheck at this bank every two weeks and I have a checking account with this bank that is in good standing.

I never have any trouble cashing my paycheck. I also get a check every three months from my daughter's home school provider that helps to pay for my Internet. I never have trouble cashing these check either.

It is just the clickbank checks I am having trouble with.

I don't like to deposit money into my checking account because I rarely use my checking account. I do cash only to help keep my spending at bay and it cuts way down on record keeping.

That really stinks! I guess I shouldn't complain too much LOL!

I am just concerned about what is going to happen if I try to cash a large clickbank check.

Just switch over to direct deposit

Then you actually can have your cash in hand the day that most peoples checks are put into the mail.

When I was actually bringing my check to the bank, the tellers did look at it a little funny, because the check itself looks like many of the "scam" checks that they see. At least that is what the teller told me.

Since switching to direct deposit though, not only have I not had a problem cashing them, but I actually have my money 3 or 4 days before the people that are still getting paper checks

            Hey Jeremy,

Don't you have to have so many clickbank payments made to you before you can get direct deposit?

I have thought of doing that but I don't think I have enough payments made to me yet.

3 paper checks is all you need

Looks like you have just crossed the threshold

I am more than happy that I made the change. In the past, I've actually had clickbank checks that expired because I did not go and cash them in time from some of my smaller clickbank accounts that I use to test out new things on.

With direct deposit though, the money is just there on the 1st and 16th for some accounts and weekly for others. It's nice to wake up and check the back account and find the money not only there, but already cleared and available to either withdraw or write checks against

For some reason I was thinking that you had to have 5 paper checks to be able to switch to direct deposit.

I think that I will switch it to direct deposit.....it will probably save me a lot of headaches in the future. At least it will keep me from feeling like I am doing something wrong every time I try to cash my checks. :0

Jeremy - you should be able to get those checks re-issued. I had this happen twice to me - one expired and the other one must have gotten thrown away (the joys of having 2 little boys running amok in the house :-) ).

They re-issued the expired one after some paperwork, and then a long time later I got a letter from Clickbank telling me I'd never cashed the other check, so before they sent the money to my state unclaimed funds fund, wanted to know if I'd like a new check - gosh what could I say to that ;-)

So, despite all the issues folks are having with clickbank- I'll give them kudos for their payment/check policy.

Thanks for this very helpful information. I am new to clickbank. When I seen the title to this thread I panicked. I am glad that I came in and read the postings to find out that when I do receive my first check the bank might question it but they will deposit it.

          Hi,

I have actually never had a problem with my CB cheques.

Once the bank sees that they are coming in more
frequently, they will become more lenient.

Also... if the cheques are over so much
they might hold them 'til they clear!

lol, I used to get funny looks from the clerks, some ask: "Is this the bank's name??"

They see Well Fargo and Clickbank on the same check, that's what confuses some of them.

Probably that's why on the bottom of CB they make a point to tell you that they are not a financial institution...

Use direct deposit once it's made available to you

This is true in Canada, too. Even if you have an account at that bank, they will not simply cash your cheque and give you the cash right away. It must be deposited into your account. This is the bank's security in case the cheque bounces. Once it goes into your account, they can use any other money in your account as "collateral".

I don't understand your logic about not depositing money in your chequing account. How do you intend to cash larger CB cheques, then? Do you expect them to hand you thousands of dollars cash before the cheque has cleared?

If there's something about your chequing account that is the problem, then why not open a simple savings account just for your business? This will help you in a number of ways.

        1) It makes it easier to cash you CB cheques
        2) It gives you an official record for the government's tax needs
        3) Set your business and bank account up with your own name and you avoid having to get an official business bank account (which costs you more in bank fees every month than a regular personal account). Just restrict all your transactions done through the savings account to your business. Now, you might want to check that in the US, but that's how it works in Canada.

Its insane here with checks. They charge you over $20. Then if the check bounces you have to pay up everything. So you can actullay LOSE money cashing a check here in Sweden.

It's one of the banks though, the others are better with checks.

          Still it's rather silly.

I am also from the UK. Over here when we get paid by cheque we have to go to the branch and pay it into our account. For this privilege they charge £5 sterling just to pay it in and process it. They then proceed to fill in a huge form which takes the best part of a lunch hour to complete If you ask branches over here about anything to do with routing numbers or anything unconvential they have a tendency to look at you puzzled as if the United States is somewhere they have never heard of. Last time I asked them anything they told me to go home and look at my statement for the information I needed. Up until I set things up properly I used to let the cheques accumulate and then walk in with a series of cheques to deposit all at once. The cashiers love me!

Most banks have to have any check that is not drawn against an account at their own bank or from a local company authorized by a bank mgr before the teller can cash it. It's standard practice to avoid NSFs - and if the check is from out of state - they will often refuse to cash it and will have you deposit the check in your account, then place a hold on the funds until the check clears.

So in the future - when you start getting anything over a couple of hundred - you will probably need to plan on depositing the check rather than cashing it.

I am surprised the bank cashes your other check without any problem - is it drawn on the same bank or in the area?

I used to work at a bank as a teller and we had a list of about 100 companies/businesses that we could cash no questions asked.

Other than that most checks had to be treated as if you couldn't trust them 100%. If a customer came in with a check I had never seen, it was safer and easier to just deposit the check then take cash out of their account if they needed the cash at the moment.

I know banks have to be very careful these days.....For example, I receive a check in the mail the other day for $4,700. It was a legitimate check drawn from a bank in Illinois. ( I even checked the routing number of the check online to see if it verified with the bank that was listed on the check)

It came with a letter that stated I had won $120,000 from a shopper's lottery. My name and address was picked at random from a computer draw from a list of customers who shop at Walmart, Kmart etc.

The $4,700 was to cover the "processing" fees to release the $120,000 to me. I was to call a number and receive information on where to send the $2,800 to cover the fees. It was to be sent via western union.

Now I know this was a scam from the beginning.....but I often wonder how many people would actually cash that check and then be liable for the amount or worse....get arrested for trying to cash a bad check. I was going to report this to the authorities but my husband ripped up the check. (he thought I was going to be dumb enough to cash it...NOT)

But I do feel sorry for people who are having a really rough time financially and then they are being targeted by these scams.

      Hi Amitywill

Is Clickbank allowing direct deposits to UK banks now.
If so I hadn't noticed and this would be useful. Do the bank charge for this?
I currently pay the RBS £7 for each US$ cheque regardless of amount to be deposited and have to wait about 7-10 days for clearance.

Direct deposit is DEFINITELY the way to go...I was handing in my cheques in the UK and everytime it would always be a new cashier who had no clue or someone who would talk me through the whole process even though I had stated I have done this a nunber of times before...it was so annoying to do..but now I get a nice little sum in my account every week without having to do any of that hassle.

Hey weeburty, I dont think I have been charged by the bank for direct deposit which is a nice change because they used to charge when I was paid by cheque.

@Keyaziz- That used to p*ss me off so much, I used to have to fill out forms for an hour and talk to the manager everytime because the cashier didn't know what they were doing.

I don't know what your particular situation is, but at my bank, even though
I have an account there, one check that I get from a company, they have
2 banks. One is in NY but the other is in Canada. When they inadvertently
issue me a check from their Canada bank, I have to jump through all these
hoops to get the check cashed just because the bank is out of country.

Not only that, they charge me some kind of fee as well. Has something to
      do with the exchange rate.

I finally had to contact the company and ask them to please send me my
checks from their NY bank since I am a US citizen.

Ultimately, I stopped doing business with them because they couldn't even
      get something like that straight.

Direct deposit with Clickbank (which wasn't an option with this company)
      will solve your problem.

Banks have their rules and regulations and like it or now, we have to follow
them or find another bank, though you're likely to run into the same
      problem with them as well.

I changed banks a couple of years ago......I went from a big nationally known bank to a small hometown bank.

The big bank had me in a financial mess ( it was my fault to begin with then it snowballed out of control) There was no customer service.....I actually got cussed out over the phone by one of the customer service reps.

You know that look people get on their face when they step in a pile of dog poo? That is exactly the look the branch manager had on his face as I was asking for his help in getting my situation straightened out..... so I finally had a enough and walked away.

This smaller hometown bank is a lot friendlier and they don't adopt the same policies that the bigger banks do.

So all in all I am satisfied with my bank.

Why is everyone trying to cash these checks?

Just deposit them and you won't have any problems.

If most of you are operating as a real business anyway...the check 'cashing' isn't an option.

@Jeremy Kelsall, regarding the expired checks, I've had this happen too many times to count. Just an fyi, all you have to do is mail the check back to them and they will re-issue another one.

    When they still sent checks:

They sent checks from the US to germany, and CB was actually VERY dependable and the checks arrived like clockwork!

I bring them to my (german) #&%$§!!! bank, and it takes a few days for the amount to show up in my account.

I go online to check my account , and i can see the check amount posted on my account. HOWEVER, even if my account might say "XXXXX" Euro i do not know whether the amount is actually "available" since the check "internally" is still being processed.

Means: the amount SHOWS but i cannot use the money until approx. ONE MONTH later. So i never know what i can *really* use right now since the actual number in my acc means NOTHING

In addition, my bank takes out HEFTY fees for foreign checks.

HOWEVER - i changed all my payments now to direct deposit and i am glad CB offers this also for accounts in other countries.

Not only do i get the money "right away"....i am also saving those bank fees and the emberrassment to not being able to buy a $1 bubblegum even if my account shows XXXXX euro when i check it. Foreign checks == evil

If you're going to run a real business you need to have a
real business checking account separate from your personal
    account.

You need to run all deposits and payments through that account.
Don't take my word for it... ask your CPA... they'll give you all the
reasons why you need to do this.

Clickbank now have a direct deposit system that sounds like you qualify for. (Need to have been paid 3 checks in 90 days), something like that. You can have your commissions paid directly into your Bank Account. Go to Clickbank.
    - My Account
    - Account Settings
    - Payment Information - Click Edit, change details, Save - All Done!

I agree with what everyone has said here! Not too many years ago, my bank freaked out when they kept seeing Paypal deposits come in. They'd never heard of Paypal before (I live in a small town)

I live in a small town also and the population here is made up of a lot of "appalachia" if you know what I mean. Very few have heard of Internet marketing.

But we do have a lot of entrepreneurs.....Meth labs are booming!!

    Hello,

I have not read every post on this thread as there are so many, so I apologise if I am repeating what someone else has said.

In this day and age, clickbank should offer a facility where you can withdraw your funds to you paypal or similar account. I have not yet had my first clickbank cheque, but it has been on my mind how I will cash it as it will be in US$ and I am in the UK

    Marc.

Of all "problems" with CB, their checks & deposits are actually where you can RELY on clickbank.

Problem is rather my bank and their stupidity, long processing times and fees. But thats all been solved with direct deposit.

So far I haven't had any troubles...my cheques have always been in very small amounts, though. I think eventually I won't use Clickbank anymore, anyway.

I went to cash my first clickbank check today in the states. It's for $1555 and I wanted to do some Christmas shopping so I didn't want to deposit and have a hold on it so I went to wells Fargo since that's who they bank with and they had to first call the office to chek the routing numbers or whatever on check to make sure it was really a wells Fargo check and then they tried to call clickbank to make sure the number on the check and amount were correct but I guess clickbank buisness lines close at 6 mountain time and no one was available to verify the check. So yes I got denied. So now I'm going to have to wait till either Monday and hope the bank can get ahold of someone at clickbank to cash my check or just deposit to my checking with bank of America and wait 2 or 3 days for it to clear. ;( can't wait for direct deposit.

Here in Australia, it takes 6 weeks for a CB cheque to clear - no joke. Then on top of this the banks charge a fee.

I only received 1 paper cheque from CB and decided to send them a nice email requesting direct deposit - they agreed. I now have direct deposit in place.

3 paper cheques is a myth
