One site makes $8000 a year, how much is it worth?

Hi Guys

I have a small niche site that makes $8000 per year, so not alot per month but goes mad in the summer as its a seasonal site

Any idea how much I could get for it. It has made $200 this month as Xmas is on the horizon. I have read 6-10 months its monthly value right up to 24x a monthly value.

Im debating whether to sell as I could do with the cash after xmas

Would be good to hear some points of view...many thanks

    - Where does the traffic come from?
    - How is it monetized?
    - How long has it been making $8k a year?

Should be able to give you a decent idea what it's worth from the above questions

      Oops, sorry

It was registered in Jan 2008 and began making sales within 8 weeks so nearly 3 years now

Its a UK site, purly SEO with links through to the merchant selling the products

All traffic is from Google UK

      Many Thanks

    - Is the product dropshipped?
    - Is it your product?
    - I'm assuming $8k is your profit?

    Thanks!

Its just an affiliate site, which brings in traffic from Google and has images of the products. Visitors click on an item and are directed through to the merchant site

The merchant sends out the goods and commission is paid every 30 days

All money is profit as there is no handling of goods

Traffic is not huge but converts well

Wasnt effected by any google update either btw

Seeing as the site has some solid history and age you would probably want to have an asking price around $16k with a reserve of $12k.

You'd be more likely to get that 24x multiple if the site wasn't seasonal and if there are other products you could promote if your current vendor went out of business.

I would hold on to it and keep the consistent money. Why anyone would sell a site making $8,000 a year for 6-12 months rev. makes no sense to me (given that the site is going to be a consistent earner).

Yep the money per month is nice but i have a need for cash come Jan which is why I am thinking of selling

Otherwise yeah, I would hold onto it but life throws these little unexpected things at you when some extra money would come in useful

People sell profitable sites all the time for a range of legitimate reasons.

What if they have a larger project that needs some cash and they can't get a loan?

What if they are buying a house and want some cash for a deposit?

What if they have a debt to pay off?

What if they just fancy a new challenge?

Everyone has a different cashflow situation so what one person does might not make sense to someone else in a different position.

Obviously there are lots of illegitimate reasons behind selling (rankings dropping, revenue dropping etc.) but there are plenty of legitimate reasons too

You can always just test the waters on flippa. Just make sure you are happy with a reserve number first.

If you can miss the site then sell it and use the income for you and your girlfriend. Whatever it is it's going to need a large amount of cash so I assume that it something that is going to benefit you both.
Isn't that why we are in this game to be able to fulfil our needs, whatever they may be?

You can always duplicate what you have already done, just another keyword variation domain name... because you already know what works.

    Good luck

Ah... I miss the days when sites went for 38x their monthly profit... anyways, after reading you conversation with Thomas, I assume that your site will go for about 15-17x the monthly profit. If you're truly lucky, maybe 20x the monthly profit.

I have worked with Flippa for a long time now and assume this is what you'll sell it for as long as you reasonably promote the listing. Good luck!

David brought on a great tip for you. As long as you don't sign a non-compete agreement with the buyer, you can create a new website under a new keyword and a new domain name but still in the same niche. Since it works, it'll be likely that it'll work again.

Honestly I don't agree with this way and it is my personal opinion..no offense.. but imagine you are the buyer and you paid above 10k for a site then the guy who sold you the website made a similar one in the similar niche and that will effect your business and you might have to share the customers with him or her ? whether you signed a non compete agreement or not, if you want to sell the website then get ready to lose it and take the cash, I am not Mr ethics but again put your self on the other side and see how it sucks..lol

You can sell this for a nice amount.

Spend lots of time on your copy dude.

the more you tell, the more you sell, or.... in this case the better price you get.

Lots of people whine about getting a low price for their site when they advertise, but when you see their description it looks like a chicken wrote it.

Tell, give benefits, and answer all the likely prospects questions. Think benefits, benefits, benefits. Just like writing a sales page.

I think there is a warrior in here that writes flippa ads and stuff. He is very good from what I hear.
